A MESSAGE FROM

Dear Brothers and Sisters In Christ,

“Seeing Ourselves as God Sees Us.”

The Blind Man said to them,

“He put clay on my eyes, and I washed,

and now I can see.”

The Sunday Stories of Lent from

The Temptation of Jesus (1st Lent),

The Transfiguration (2nd),

The Woman at the Well (3rd), now the

reveals the justice of God manifested in Compas-

sion, Courage, and the Commitment of Jesus in ful-

filling God’s will, framed as an example of what it

means, and how we can live our lives today.

Through these stories of Jesus, we accompany our

brethren who are preparing themselves to receive

the sacraments of the church, not just for the sake

of completing the rite and traditional practices, but

to “be with them” in deepening their understand-

ing of their spiritual, sacramental, and personal en-

counter with Jesus who also accompanies us in our

journey of faith as we prepare to commemorate the

Life, Death, and resurrection of Jesus.

These stories may be our own stories of Tempta-

tion, Glory, Conversion, Healing, and Resurrec-

tion. How we witness, is how we proclaim our

faith. After all, Baptism makes us one in Hope

and Dignity in Christ.

Fr. David Vivero

Gospel Meditation

For Your Day

Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

Jesus wants to motivate each one of us to

see the truth. After developing a relation-

ship with Jesus, the blind man “sees” as

someone very special. The Pharisees, due

to the blindness caused by their ignorance,

prejudice, and need for self-preservation,

still remain blind. Presuppositions, preju-

dices, assumptions, and our needs can

easily blind us to truth. We see what we

want or need to see and not what is really

there. In addition, our stubbornness con-

tinues to convince us that we are right and

that our vision is perfect. Only God can

complete the picture.

Look around at our world. So much of

what is happening today is due to the

reluctance of folks to allow themselves to

be stretched and brought to see what is

really there. Many react to what life pre-

sents to them more with the lenses of igno-

rance than lenses of clarity. The Gospel

carries great transformative value. With it,

God corrects our vision and replaces our

limited sight with the fullness of his sight.

God opens our eyes so that we can see that

it is not about preserving what we have

created but of living in the immensity and

wonder of God’s kingdom.

Through a simple,

loving relationship

with God, we can

break through the teth-

ers of prejudice, eradi-

cate fear, dispel the

darkness of hatred and

sin, discover freedom,

live in peace, work for

justice, be effective

stewards of creation,

assist the migrant and

the immigrant, and

We Serve...

The outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) can be

stressful for people, and bring about fear and

worry. However, as the Bible tells us "Those who

sow in tears will reap with songs of joy." - Psalm 126:5 This passage is telling us that if we

help others when in difficult circumstances, we

will receive joy and fruit from the seed we plant.

Taking care of yourself, your friends, and your

family can help you cope with stress. Helping

others cope with their stress can also make your

community stronger. Below, are a few ideas for

how we can all do a some things to help others,

while also helping ourselves.

The elderly may not be able to get out as often,

or at all due to the high risk to their health. All

across the country neighbors are stepping up to

help out.

Focusing efforts on our local communities feels

more important than ever right now.

All Are Welcome Here If you are alienated or

upset, we welcome

you lovingly. If you are in need of

forgiveness, Jesus forgives you

completely—with unconditional

love. If you have been hurt by the

Church, we are truly sorry. If you

are angry, Jesus offers you peace. If

life has become burdensome, we are

here to support you. We are happy

you are here and want you to stay.

We would like to share our lives

with you. Come join us each week

so we can worship God together.

Covid-19 Acción Parroquial

Estimados feligreses de All Souls,

PARISH & MINISTRY

Covid-19 Parish Response Dear All Souls Parishioners,

The uncertain times we are all experiencing, due to the Coronavirus, has

prompted some necessary changes to planned events and gatherings.

Your Parish and Pastor have your physical and spiritual well-being fore-

most in mind and heart. Therefore, we will be focusing our efforts on

conducting weekend services for as long as possible, because at Mass we

support each other just by our simple presence in these uncertain times,

even when we are all standing farther apart. It is in the presence of Christ

that we are reminded to care for each other, and in so doing, tending to

our own mental and spiritual needs.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are taking the following steps in or-

der to follow through with our nation’s preventative efforts, which are

designed to help protect you.

Worship

• Weekend Masses will continue as scheduled, as long as possible. Up-

dates will be promptly posted.

Live stream broadcasts of the 9:30AM (Eng) and 12:30PM (Spn) Masses

will be available on the Website, as a service for those who are home-

bound, ill, or cannot otherwise attend Mass. www.allsoulssanford.org

• The following are excused from the obligation to attend Mass:

Faithful at particular risk by reason of age or existing health conditions.

Faithful who are sick, or experiencing symptoms of sickness.

• We invite the faithful to reverently receive the Eucharist in their hands.

Receiving the Precious Blood will be suspended indefinitely. These

protocols are motivated by care and concern for the health of our peo-

ple, especially those who are most vulnerable.

• Our Church is being constantly and thoroughly sanitized. Parishioners

are asked to observe hygiene etiquette, and social distancing, as pre-

scribed by health officials.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be suspended effective March

18th. The Adoration Chapel will be closed during this time as well.

Events/Activities

To focus on what is most important, all Parish events and activities in-

volving physical attendance, will be suspended as of Wednesday, 3/18/20

(except Masses) until the Coronavirus crises has passed.

Parish Administration

The Parish office will remain open from 9am to 4pm (M-F), until further

notice. The staff has been asked to suspend all non-essential, in-person

appointments until further notice.

Communications

For ongoing updates and critical information from your Parish, we ask

that you do just two things...

1. Stay in touch through email and/or text by signing up for our Parish

Flocknote service

2. Check our Parish website and/or Facebook page regularly (See information on next page for how to sign up or find these services)

No one can know the actual duration or extent of this trying period, ex-

cept our heavenly Father. It is in His hands that we must place ourselves

and trust in His care and love for us. Please join us in offering up a prayer,

especially for all those who have already had their health or well-being

impacted by the virus. (see next page)

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’

pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede

for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those

charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to

conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protection we seek

refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver

us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis

peligros, oh Virgen gloriosa y bendita.

Our Lenten Journey All Souls Catholic School students and staff began their Lenten jour-

ney as a community on Ash Wednesday. At that time, the alleluia

was symbolically put away in accordance with the lenten season, and will

be brought out again at the resurrection of Jesus. We were reminded that

Lent is a time to remember the sacrifices made for us, and to give up not only

some “thing”, but the heavier things we carry such as prejudice, judgement

and hate. We take these 40 days to ask God to help us replace these types of

burdens with grace, mercy, love, compassion and kindness. Our school com-

munity prays for our parishioners also, that we all may grow closer to God

during this Lenten journey.

And The Bible Says...

When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, he found him and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" He answered and said, “Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him and the one speaking with you is he.” He

said, “I do believe, Lord,” and he worshiped him. - Jn 9:35-38

Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass ©2001, 1998, 1970 CCD.

postrándose, lo adoró. - Jn 9, 35-38

L azarus, the friend of Jesus, the brother of Martha and

Mary, was the one of whom the Jews said, “See how

much he loved him.” In their sight, Jesus raised his friend

Lazarus from the dead.

Legends abound about the life of Lazarus after the death and

resurrection of Jesus. He is supposed to have left a written ac-

count of what he saw in the next world before he was called back

to life. Some say he followed Peter into Syria. Another story is

that despite being put into a leaking boat by the Jews at Jaffa, he,

his sisters, and others landed safely in Cyprus. There he died

peacefully after serving as bishop for 30 years.

A church was built in his honor in Constantinople and some of

his reputed relics were transferred there in 890. A Western leg-

end has the oarless boat arriving in Gaul. There he was bishop of

Marseilles, was martyred after making a number of converts, and

was buried in a cave. His relics were transferred to the new ca-

thedral in Autun in 1146.

It is certain there was early devotion to the saint. Around the

year 390, the pilgrim lady Etheria talks of the procession that

took place on the Saturday before Palm Sunday at the tomb

where Lazarus had been raised from the dead. In the West, Pas-

sion Sunday was called Dominica de Lazaro, and Augustine tells

us that in Africa the Gospel of the raising of Lazarus was read at

the office of Palm Sunday.

young ladies in the Rite of Sending to Our Lady of the Uni-

verse Basilica in Orlando. Isabella and Haylie signed the

Book of Elect which was then presented to Bishop Noonan

at the Rite of the Elect later that afternoon. Please pray for

Isabella and Haylie as they continue preparing to be fully

initiated Catholics during the Easter Vigil Mass here at All

Souls. God bless you Izzy and Haylie!

Mercedes Ford joined All Souls parish 3

years ago when her daughter started

first grade. She was raised Catholic in

Clearwater Florida. And moved to cen-

tral Florida in 1994 to attend UCF where

she graduated with a degree in Commu-

nication, Writing and Sociology.

After graduating Mercedes started a

career in the Human Resources field. “I

love helping people so “this seemed

like a natural fit!”

Her passion is always helping people so

when she heard about the Family Life

Ministry Leader opening she prayed and

then applied! She plans on partnering

with all ministries and hopes to have

more fun community events!
