With the evolution and progress made in our profession, We here in MMM College of Nursing, not only look to prepare and shape professionals to meet the growing global need, in terms of advancement in technology in the field of Nursing and health but also deeply feel the need to prepare humans for humans, the core and the essence of our society. ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015

INTRODUCTION

With the evolution and progress made in our profession, We here in MMM

College of Nursing, not only look to prepare and shape professionals to meet the

growing global need, in terms of advancement in technology in the field of Nursing and

health but also deeply feel the need to prepare humans for humans, the core and the

essence of our society.

OUR ORGANIZATION AT A GLANCE

MMM College of Nursing has been established in the academic year 2008 and has

been formally approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu(G.O.293)dated 11.08.2007.

The college is affliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai and has

been recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and the Tamil Nadu Nurses

and Midwives Council. The College is located in Nolumbur, Mogappair, Chennai. The

College is roofed under “The Madras Medical Mission”. This was inspired by the

missionary zeal of His Grace Bishop Zachariah Mar Dionysius and backed by the

commitment of doctors and members of the Orthodox Syrian Christian community,

Chennai who promoted this registered charitable society.

We are hereby proud to say that the College has grown in leaps and bounds in

such a short tenure. We are indeed proud to say that three successful batches of

students have completed their course. All the students have got placements after the

completion of their course and many of the students have got placed in well reputed

hospitals in the country and also abroad. The College has made a good foward walk to

appear in the progressive and modern face in the nursing arena.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Students have also made commendable achievements in their academics . The

University examination results conducted by Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University

were remarkable.

CELEBRATIONS :

The following are few of the memorable celebrations at MMM College of Nursing for the

academic year 2013-2014.

REVENIR - 2013:

The first Alumni Reunion- Revenir – 2013 was celebrated on 30th October 2013. Totally

62 alumni from various hospitals all over India participated in the programme.

Dr. (Mrs).A.V.RAMAN, Ph.D (N) Director, Nursing Education & Research, Westfort

Academy of Higher Education (WAHE), Thrissur was the Chief Guest and Dr. THANGAM

RAMA VARMA – Director, IRM presided the function and gave message. Dr. Mrs.Raman

declared the alumni meet open. Prof. Rosaline Rachel, Principal gave the aims and

objectives of alumni meet. First alumni news letter was released. The Alumnus gave

their feedback about the organization.

CNE was organized on Barriers in Application of Theory to Practice by

Dr.(Mrs.).A.V.RAMAN, & “Traditional food” by Dr.Esther Lydia, Loyola College. The

lunch was provided to the alumnus and the faculty members. The programme ended

after a meeting with the office bearers.

1st Graduation and 6th lamp lighting ceremony:

1st Graduation and 6th Lamp Lighting ceremony was celebrated on 9th November, 2013.

The Florence Nightingale Lamp was lighted by Dr. Jayarani Premkumar, Ph.D (N),

Nursing Superintendent, CMCH, Vellore. Dr. Jancy Charles, M.D, Registrar, The T.N

Dr.M.G.R Medical University, distributed the certificates and medals to the graduates.

Totally 34 graduates received their certificates and 48 budding nurses lit the lamp and

took oath and dedicated themselves for the profession. The best outgoing student

award was given to Ms.Divya. T.Francis and the best clinical nurse award was given to

Ms.Reshma Varghese, the class toppers and subject toppers awards was given to the

final year and third year students. Prof.Rosaline Rachel, Principal, MMM College of

Nursing read the pledge for the graduates and budding nurses. Dr. K. Jacob –

Hon.Secretary, MMM gave the presidential address, Mr. Cherian Abraham –

Hon.Treasurer MMM, presided over the function, Mr. George Cherian – Director

Administration MMM felicitated the guest.

CREO 2013:

CREO 2013 was celebrated from 16.12.2013 to 18.12.2013. The CREO 2013 was inaugurated on

16.12.2013 at 10.00 am by Mr.George Cherian, Director-Administration, MMM. Various events

like Essay writing, short story writing, poetry, painting, pencil drawing, quiz, Rangoli, flower

arrangement, elocution, mono act, hair do, face painting, mehandi, collage, solo song, vegetable

carving, wealth out of waste, advertisement, mime, fancy dress, solo – classical, folk dance,

western dance, Group dance and Miss.CREO and Sports events like Tennicoit, shuttle, throw

ball, short put, javelin, Discuss were organized. The valedictory was on 18.12.2013. Ms.Apoorva

Elizabeth Mithra, Air India was the chief guest and distributed the shields and memento to the

winners.

WORKSHOPS, CONFERENCES & CNE ORGANIZED BY MMM CON:

The College not only helps to build the talents of the students but at the same time helps

and nourishes in academic excellence. Workshops, Conferences are organized to build

the knowledge base of the staff and students so that they will be at par with the recent

developments in the field of health and Nursing.

WORKSHOP ON NURSING PROCESS ON 21.01.2014 :

The workshop on “The Nursing Process – The Cornerstone of Quality Nursing Care” was

held on the 21st January, 2014. The workshop was awarded CNE credit points of 5 hours from

Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council. There were 114 participants in total from different

Colleges and Hospitals.

Dr.Rajan, Director – Cardiac Surgery was invited for inauguration. Prof. Beulah

Premkumar, HOD, Medical Surgical Department, CMC, Vellore highlighted the overview of

Nursing process. The subject experts of Medical Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing,

Maternity Nursing, Mental Health Nursing & Community Health Nursing highlighted the nursing

process application pertaining to their field in the morning. Group discussion on planning the

nursing process for each specialty was done with case scenario in the afternoon. Dr.Jaya Raju,

Medical Superintendent, MMM was distributed the certificate in the valedictory function.

It was a very fruitful workshop and all the students, faculty and delegates had a very

wonderful time getting updated with the Nursing Process.

CNE PROGRAMME ON NEWBORN RESUSCITATION & BASIC NEWBORN CARE:

CNE programme on Newborn Resuscitation and Basic Newborn Care programme was

conducted by IAP-NNF-NRP-FGM from 25.02.2014 to 27.02.2014 in the MMM College of

Nursing with total number of 75 participants. First day the programme started with registration

and inauguration. The delegates were awarded with certificates and CNE credit of 11 hours

from Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council.

The sessions were lead by Dr.Swathi, Pediatrician, Dr.Uma, Pediatrician and Mrs.Teresa,

Nurse Manager. The sessions included were preparation for Birth, initial steps & newborn care,

demonstration of routine care, observational care for the newborn.

The valedictory function was conducted on 27.02.2014. The guests for the day were

Dr.Heidi Steoters, USA, Mr.Eric Hanm, USA, Mrs.Shana, IAPA co-ordinator, USA, Dr.Swathi,

Dr.Uma and Mrs.Teresa.

ONE DAY STATE LEVEL CONFERENCE ON 26.03.2014:

One day state level conference on Indian Public Health Legislation – “Safe Zone for

Health Care Providers & Consumers held on 26th March, 2014 organized by the department of

Community Health Nursing, MMM College of Nursing. Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council

awarded 6 credit hours and The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University awarded 10 credit

points for this conference.

The conference was declared open by Dr.K.Jacob, Hon.Secretary, MMM, Mr.Cherian

Abraham, Hon.Treasurer and Mr.George Cherian, Director, MMM Hospital presided over the

inaugural function. 414 delegates from hospitals & colleges of nursing of Tamil Nadu benefited

by the conference.

Resource persons from various fields presented on legislations related to employment,

environment, health, nutrition and family. Panel discussion was also conducted regarding laws

governing to safety of patients and health care professionals. Poster competition was also

conducted. The conference concluded with the valedictory session and Dr.Anbarasu Mohanraj,

Senior Cardiac Surgeon presided over the function and distributed the certificate to all the

delegates and winners of poster competition.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME ON 12.06.2014 & 13.06.2014 :

Disaster Management programme was held on 12.06.2014 & 13.06.2014 conducted by “NDRF”

(National Disaster Response Force ), Arrakonam. The workshop aimed to enhance the

knowledge regarding disaster management and hands on skills on the various aspect of disaster

management The workshop was planned with the delegates from MMM college of nursing and

MMM Hospital. Around 200 participated in this workshop. Second day the NDRF team

members organized an “Exhibition on Disaster Management Equipments” after the,

scientific sessions.

WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FROM 31.06.2014 to 04.07.2014 :

Research Methodology workshop was held from 31.06.2014 & 13.06.2014. Resource

persons are invited from various institutions like PIMS, Omayalachi college of nursing, SRM

Medical College and university, CHS & MMM Hospital. The workshop aimed to enrich the

knowledge on research methodology in various aspects. The workshop was planned with the

delegates from MMM college of nursing M.Sc faculty & PG students participated in this

workshop. The workshop was awarded CME credit points of 30 points from The Tamil Nadu

Dr.M.G.R. Medical University.

Dr.Latchumana Dhas, Senior Consultant Cardiology presided over the inaugural

function.

Chief Guest Address was delivered by Dr.Alamelu Venkataraman, Nursing Director, West

Fort College of Nursing, Thirussur. Every day practicum session was conducted. It was a very

fruitful workshop and all the students, faculty and delegates had a very wonderful experience to

update their research knowledge.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:

Research activities are one of the icing on the cake in this rapid growing Institution. The

faculty members are carrying out Departmental projects and Individual projects for

their professional and Institutional growth and development.

5. Community Health Nursing A study to assess the prevalence and factors of reproductive cancer among the women of self help group at selected community, Chennai

A qualitative study to assess the lived in experiences on self management issues of diabetes mellitus among the diabetic client at Porur, PHC.

There are many projects which are underway and faculty are motivated and committed

toward these projects. Students are also conducting Individual projects, so that each

student is able to equip themselves with the knowledge of research and will be able to

be carryout research with confidence. Totally 123 B.Sc (N) projects and 7 PBBSc (N)

projects are submitted.

SNA / YRC ACTIVITIES :

Mess committee meeting was conducted as the first meeting on 24/7/2013 at

Principal’s office. Issues and suggestions were presented and decision was taken.

On 30/7/2013 as part of commencing of the university exam for the year 2013 a

special prayer was conducted. Fr. Ninan Chacko blessed the occasion and hall

tickets were distributed.

On 13/8/2013 a special prayer meeting was arranged and welcomed His Grace

Gee Varghese Mar Diascoros Thirimeni and he delivered the message and students

were given time for intreraction with Thirumeni.

On 15/8/2013 Independence Day was celebrated and Mrs. Amudhavalli Lecturer

hoisted the National Flag and students were given with sweets and snacks.

On 2/9/2013 the First SNA General Body Meeting was conducted. Prof. Rosaline

Rachel announced the new rules and regulations to be followed. Teaching and non

teaching faculties were present for the meeting.

As part of Nutrition week from 1st-7 th sep students of 2nd year B.Sc nursing along

with 2 faculties attended NUTR IUTSAV programme at MMM hospital on 6th sep.

Students participate in many events and students were awarded for winning.

On 7/9/2013 Teachers Day Programme was celebrated. Dr. Vivian was invited as

the chief guest for the day. The students arranged different games for the teachers

and all actively participated, prize distribution was also done for various events.

On 13/9/2103 Onam was celebrated, games for both teachers and students were

arranged. All were provided with Onasadhya by our Mess Manager, Mess Manager

was honored on the same day. Onam message was delivered by Mr. Thomas Jacob,

Administrative Manager.

On 19/9/2013 a special session was organized for students on making aware on

the topic VISION OF COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES. The session was taken over

by Dr.Sushil Tharian (Director of Christian Fellowship Hospital Chennai.)

On 23/9/2013 2nd SNA Executive General Body Meeting was conducted in seminar

hall. The meeting was conducted for motivating the SNA office bearers to actively

participate for the following programmes.

As part of World Heart Day on 23/9/2013 2nd year B.Sc Nursing students

conducted a programme and done power point presentation on the topic Reason

for the children and women who are more prone for heart and causes of CVD.

On behalf of MMM hospital they conducted World Heart Day programme and all

participated for the Quiz competition.

On 1/10/2013 World Heart Day celebration was celebrated in the college of

Nursing and PPT was presented by Mrs. Samathanapriya,Lecturer MMM CON on

prevention of CVD among mothers and children.

On 1/10/2013 as part of Elderly day students of IV the year B.Sc Nursing

organized Health Education programme regarding old age problems and its

management in Koyamedu Primary School. We had a good involvement by

community people.

From 3/10/2013-5/10/2013 Biennial conference was conducted which was held

at ANNAI JKK Sampoorani Ammal College of Nursing Erode. From College of

Nursing 13 students were selected and given chance for participating at various

events. All were actively participated and had a good experience.

On 21/10/2013 Dengue Awareness Programme was conducted at College Of

Nursing and PPT was organized by Prof. Padmavathy Kamaraj vice Principal MMM

CON on dengue and its treatment.

On 29/10/2013 between 2pm to 5 pm Fresher’s day programme was organized

for new batch of students at MMM auditorium. Different programme were

conducted for students and all actively participated.

On 9/11/2013 at MMM auditorium First Graduation Ceremony for 2009-2012

batch and the Sixth Lamp Lightening Ceremony for 2013 batch was organized and

chief guest graced the occasion and it was one of the memorable day.

On 16/11/2013 World Diabetic Day and children’s day was organized and fancy

competition on famous leader were organized and prizes were distributed to

winners.

A part of world AIDS day students of IV year B.Sc (N) coordinating with red ribbon

club in-charge Mrs. Amuthavalli lecturer conducted AIDS awareness programme in

various area on following days 3/12/2013- Nolumbur, 5/12/2013 at Shenoy

Nagar health post, on 6/12/2013 at Ayanawaram health post and Perumalpet

health post.

On 13/12/2013 and 2nd hostel day celebration was done and student were divided

into groups and given a theme RIMBOE room was arranged according to the

theme. Along with the best hostel room, best cupboard, campfire and moon light

dinner was arranged.

The CREO 2013 means igniting the young minds conducted from 16/12/2013-

18/12/2013.

This was a good opportunity for teachers as well as students to bring out their

runner up of Femina Ms.South India, she awarded the student winner for various

events.

On 20/12/2013 Christmas day was celebrated at MMM CON Father. M.G.

Mathew Holy Cross CSI church, Perambur was the chief guest and father

delivered Christmas message on real meaning of Christmas followed by

programme like Christmas choir from all batches and arrival of Santa Claus. All

batch students and faculties were distributed with Christmas cake and gifts.

On 3/1/2014 reopening day after Christmas vacation we arranged New Year

prayer 2014 to start the year with good thoughts and spirit. Father Ninan Chacko

Chaplin delivered the New Year message and prayer ended by distributing

sweets and new year calendar to all students.

On 13/1/2014 we celebrated Pongal and National Youth Day. It was conducted

as two sessions morning all batch students were given chance to prepare pongal

and pot painting Rongali competition was held. All had a new experience

followed by pongal message by Prof. Padmavathi Kamraj, Vice Principal,

MMMCON.

On 13/2/2014 3rd GB meeting was conducted and all problems and issues were

discussed with all batch members and new instructions was given by Principal

Mam.

As part of World Women’s Day on 8/3/2014 organized Cancer Awareness

Screening Camp with SMF in coordination with two doctors at Ayappakkam, Community Hall. Clinical Examination, Breast examination, Cervical examination was done and students of IVth year BSc.(N) organized health education programme for public.

The 4th GB meeting was conducted on 10/07/2014 for electing the Nominees for

the SNA election 2014-2015.The current problems and issues were discussed

with the students.

For students to become closer to God, the college arranged prayer for all

students. The prayer will be held every Wednesday between 4pm to 5pm and it

is leaded by Mrs. Annie. All the students have been benefited through this.

The SNA election for the year 2014-2015 was held on 15-17-2014 at MMM CON

and the results were announced on 16-07-2014 and on 18-07-2014 were

planned for handing over and swearing in ceremony for newly elected

committee members.
