The building remained intact during the war, but in 1936 many of its models and plans were destroyed by Catalan anarchists, who saw the church as a symbol of the old, conservative religion that had no place in the new Barcelona.Construction started again in late 1950s.4Passion FaadeNativity FaadeGlory Faade

La Familia Sagrada FaadesEach facade has three portals representing the virtues of Faith, Hope and Love. 5Passion FaadeLocated on the Western side of the Church, the Passion faade is dedicated to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. This faade is nearly complete.It is decorated with angular sculptures done by Josep Maria Subirach.

Upper Picture:Sculpture of Jesus being flogged.Left Hand Picture:The Great doors of Passion Faade, its printed with words from the Bible in various languages including Catalan.6Nativity FaadeLocated on the eastern side of the church, the Nativity Faade is dedicated the birth of Jesus Christ. This faade was finished before the Spanish Civil War broke out and has the most influence of Antoni Gaudi. The Adoration of the Magi, the Adoration of the Shepherds, and the Coronation and the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary is depicted in the faade. A Cypress tree, represented by a spiral is symbolizes the tree of life.

7Glory FaadeThe Glory Faade has yet to be built. It is estimated that the entire Familia Sagrada will be commpleted by 2026, however, some have reason to believe that it will take much longer.

It will include 7 columns to symbolize the gifts from the Holy Spirit and present the virtues against sin. It will have many sculpted stone clouds bearing the Credo written in large letters. There will be bell towers that will be consecrated to the apostles St. Andrew, St. Peter, St. Paul and St. James the Great.8The TowersEach tower is to represent one of the 12 apostles with their names and a sculpture.Gaudi also intended to add a tower in the center, with a great cross representing Jesus.

Eight of an intended eighteen towers are completed..Then surrounding the great cross, 4 shorter towers will be built to represent the four evangelist by their animal.9The Church InteriorAt the top, you can climb around the walls and into other towers and enjoy partial views of Barcelona through a jumble of latticed stonework, ceramic decoration, carved buttresses and a variety of sculpture.

Built by Marc Safont, it was constructed in 1416-1418. It now serves as a government building in St Jaume Square.

12Santa Maria del Mar, Baslica deA holy church that displays a high degree of unity and unparalleled beauty. Its considered to be the best example of Catalan Gothic Architecture. Berenguer de Montagut and Ramon Despuig designed the church.

13The German Pavilion

The Barcelona Pavilion, a work symbol of the Modern Movement. It was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as the German National Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition.14THE END!
