Report on Anastomosis-2016 On behalf of the Organizing committee, it is my pleasant duty to present to you a brief report about Anastomosis 2016, First inter-medical college Sports tournament organized by Hamdard institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Jamia Hamdard Academic learning and sports always complement each other; in fact they resemble the two sides of the same coin. The qualities of leadership, sharing, team spirit and tolerance are learnt from the sports and these are the very important qualities which should be present in a good doctor. We at HIMSR believe that sports should be a part of medical education curriculum. The MCI also encouraged this as evident from the vision 2015 in which a two month foundation course is included with yoga and sports as an integrated part. Anastomosis was a three day event from 25th to 27th April 2016 conducted with the aim of providing the students an opportunity to showcase their skills and develop a competitive spirit. This was also to provide them a platform for interaction with the students and teachers of other medical colleges. It was originally planned in February but due to some unforeseen circumstances it had to be postponed. It was on the suggestion of the students themselves that the name of Anastomosis was finalized, the meaning of which is interconnection between channels thus aptly represent the spirit behind this event. Five sports event were conducted included cricket, football, basketball, badminton and table tennis. Cricket and football was only for boys while both boys and girls team participated in the remaining events. A Total of twelve colleges of Delhi NCR participated in various events. 1. brief report about Anastomosis 2016, First inter-medical college Sports

The tournament kick started with the Inauguration by our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor,

Dr. G N Qazi, early in the morning of 25th April. Registrar Dr. Firdaus A Wani, Dean,

Prof. M Y Kharadi MS, Dr. Ajaz A Mustafa, Sports Director, Mr. Noor Mohd, all HODs

and other senior faculty members from HIMSR were also present to encourage the

students in this endeavor.

We started with all the five events on day 1. League matches were played in Cricket,

Football and Basket ball while knock out games were planned for badminton and

Table Tennis due to large number of entries as a very good response was seen from

the girl students especially in badminton.

Anastomosis 2016 concluded with Closing Ceremony which was held on 27th at 5:00

pm at the Sports complex of Jamia Hamdard. Shri. Satyendra K Jain, Hon’ble Cabinet

Minister Health and Power, Govt. of Delhi was the chief guest and Shri. Dinesh

Mohaniya, MLA and Vice President DJB were the Guest of Honour. Ceremony started

with floral welcome of all the dignitaries including Chief Guest, Guest of Honour,

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Dean, Chairman of the Organizing Committee,

Medical Superintendent and Organizing Secretary, Dr. Musharraf Husain.

It was followed by recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Shadab, 4th year Medical Student.

Prof. MY Khardi, organizing Chairman welcomed all the dignitaries and stressed upon

the importance of sports in a student’s life. A brief report about the tournament was

presented by the organizing Secretary Prof. Musharraf Husain.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering and encouraged the students to be

active in both sports and academic activities and also appreciated the efforts of the

organizing committee as it was the first of its kind event at HIMSR.

Hon’ble minister appreciated the effort of Jamia Hamdard and acknowledge the

university contribution in the field of education. He also stressed upon the

importance of good communication skills and interpersonal relations in health care

profession.

Shri. Dinesh Mihaniya congratulated the HIMSR and Jamia Hamdard for their untiring

efforts towards excellence.

It was followed by the prize distribution to all the runner up and winners.

Students of other medical colleges also shared their experiences at Anastomosis and

unanimously expressed their feelings that it was the best sports tournament that they

have ever attended.

Ceremony ended with a vote of thanks followed by high tea.
