• Repeated themes = red flag– Ex. crazy partying
• Use facebook as a tool – show good things– Ex. Pictures of you volunteering at Feed My
Starving Children• 35% of hiring managers google you• 23% look up your facebook (Pomenon Institute survey)
• 1 reason: Its easier/faster than calling references
Things to avoid on Facebook• Posting pictures/comments of illegal
drugs (duh!)• Bad grammar/spelling• Public complaining – Don’t rant
– Your status ≠ your therapist• Handles of alcohol in pictures
Privacy Settings!
Facebook can be Good!• “Facebook Personality Score”(Illinois University)
– Conscientiousness: well organized, hard-working– Emotional stability: no negative posts– Agreeableness: no facebook conflicts/heated debates– Extraversion: photos in social settings– Openness: travel and intellect
• Look worldly– photos of trips to other countries
• Show your smarts– update status with how much you enjoyed the book War and Peace
• Have lots of facebook friends (Auburn University)
• Remember you are not just representing YOU. You are a part of an organization bigger than that
• Employers care about your facebook after you’re hired too!
