PROCEDURE FOR BOOKING FOR AND PAYING FOR AN ACTIVITY
Step 1 - register for the event 1. Put your name on the list for the event you are interested in (Make sure there is a vacancy
before proceeding to payment)
Step 2 - pay for the event 2. Complete an Activities Payment Voucher (both halves) for that activity.
Available at meetings and from Bulletin. It is a good idea to complete it at home prior to the meeting.
3. If the payment has been made by EFT attach a ‘bank receipt’ to the Activities Payment Voucher.
4. Take your Voucher to the Assistant Treasurer to check that the amount of payment is correct.
5. Pay by cash, cheque or card. If paying by card the Activities Payment Voucher will be detached and handed to the GoPos operator who will process the payment (see warning below).
6. The receipt side of the Activities Payment Voucher will be signed as payment having been received, detached and given back to you.
Step 3 - confirm your registration 7. Present your “paid” Voucher to the organiser of the particular event so that “paid” can be
written on the sheet.
Please remember that we are all volunteers. Please make bookings with event organisers at club meetings and only contact them at other times in case of emergencies.
Theatre tickets are ordered after the payment date and are generally available at the meeting following payment. It would be appreciated if you would collect them from the desk when notified to do so.
WARNING GoPos Payments
Members are reminded that using a credit card to make a GoPos payment attracts high bank charges. It is therefore recommended that only a debit card be used when making a payment using the GoPos machine. A debit card payment only attracts a bank charge of $0.20 per transaction.
FEES paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) should be made to: Bendigo Bank BSB: 633-000
Account: 139 637 029 Account Name: Asquith Mixed Probus Club
It is important that your EFT payment is able to be identified. Please write your surname and activity abbreviation in the space provided and print the receipt from the bank. This transaction should be made prior to the general meeting. Any transaction that cannot be identified will be forfeited to the Club.

SPEAKERS Our February speaker will be well known horticulturalist Judy Horton. Judy Horton is a horticulturist who in 2015 retired after working for 22 years as a garden adviser for Yates. At Yates Judy was responsible for updating six editions of Yates Garden Guide, the best-selling Australian gardening book. One of Judy's responsibilities at Yates was to look after the company archives. These give a wonderful overview of gardening in Australia, particularly during the 20th century. Judy's talk draws on these archives and other resources to outline the trends, world events and social changes that have affected our gardens in that time, with particular emphasis on the ubiquitous quarter-acre Aussie backyard. This is a fun talk that will have every recognising something they remember from past gardens and their childhoods. Judy is one of the weekend regulars who answers garden questions on ABC 702 "Weekends with Simon Marnie" program. She also has a weekly spot on 2UE at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. Hornsby Hospital was the subject for our January speaker Mark Buckle, who worked there for 40 years, becoming the unofficial historian and collector of artefacts. Local auxiliaries played a strong
6 | P a g e
role in both raising funds and promoting the need for a hospital. We heard about the difficulties for an injured person near the Hawkesbury River getting appropriate medical treatment, including lying on a stretcher in the train’s brake van from Hornsby to St Leonards. The original hospital was opened in August 1933 by Sir Philip Game. Cost for the building, including nurses’ quarters was ten thousand, one hundred pounds. The original furniture was prison made. POT LUCK MEALS How well or how many people do you know in our club? Thanks to Barry Willick and Sandra Death Pot Luck Dinning has been a very successful social function of AMP since 2009. Pot Luck Meal is a great way to get to know other members and socialise in a relaxed casual social environment.
How does it work? Groups of 3 couples come together about three times per year for a meal, be it Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Picnic or whichever you decide.
10 | P a g e
The rule of thumb is the host provides a main course and by agreement, the other couples provide nibbles, entrée, dessert or whatever the group decide. Once organised, the group are autonomous and work date and food component with each other. Members bring own wine, drink. Groups are changed annually so you have the opportunity to get to know other members.
No partner? Not a problem, we will try and match 2 singles together. Singles are more than welcome to make a couple.
I have a small home? No excuse. Members can eat on laps, eat in the park on a veranda, the list is endless. The whole idea of the Pot Luck is to socialise and does not have to be formal dining.
What it is not! It is not a celebrity chef challenge but an opportunity to enjoy company over a meal regardless of your cooking expertise.
How do I join a group? Please put your name on the Pot Luck sheet at next meeting. We have quite a few new members and existing members who do not know each other. This is a great way to change that. The committee encourages you to sign up and give it a go.
Won’t be at meeting and would like to join? No problem – email Rhonda Wilson: [email protected]

Ron McMaster and Noel Fisher receive their OBEs from the Club President.
WELFARE: Denise Mayhew I reported at our last meeting on the welfare of Sheila Ellis, Noelene Oliver, Neil Baker and
Barbara Williamson. All are continuing to improve with the exception of Neil who I believe has
suffered a setback after his recent hip surgery. A card has been sent to Neil wishing him well
on your behalf.
I have been in touch with other members who aren’t 100% well, most wish to remain
anonymous at this time so, I have taken the liberty of sending on your regards wishing them all
a very speedy trip back to good health.
To all members celebrating birthdays before our next meeting, we wish you a wonderful day
full of happiness
Denise Mayhew (0416 179 383)
BOOK EXCHANGE TABLE A current list of some of the world’s most popular authors would surely include these authors listed
below. The club’s ‘book exchange table’ presently has at least one book from each of the
following authors:
Michael Connolly Jeffrey Archer Cathy Kelly
Michael Crichton Len Deighton Di Morrissey
Alistair Maclean Sandra Brown Danielle Steel
Patricia Cornwall Dean Koontz Tom Clancy
Bryce Courtenay Fay Kellerman Jodi Picoult
Karen Slaughter Colin Forbes Dan Brown
Desmond Bagley Clive Cussler Tony Park
Tony Park spoke at our club several meetings ago, and we have one of
his book available. If you are a reader, you may find just the book!
Why not check the table monthly. The book table was set up for the
benefit of members to take away a book that interests you , and then
if you can return it, or leave a few of your own books for others to
enjoy. Also, if you enjoy jigsaw puzzles, or videos, then we may have
one here that appeals to you.
Why not come down and have a look?
Where did that come from? Why do we ‘bury the hatchet’? With this phrase we mean to end an argument or conflict. It was a Native American custom in the 17th century whereby a hatchet or tomahawk would be buried in the ground to signal the laying down of arms, and the declaration of peace between warring groups.
