PORTRAITSPortraits can be challenging, but I embrace the challenge. Each person offers something new to the photoshoot and I absolutely love that! It means that each time I go out on a shoot it’s new and exciting. It’s a way to get to know a person in a short amount of time and capture what makes them them.

NATIVEThese photos were taken in the Meed Hotel at Bannack, Montana. Both models were extremely easy to work with. For the one of the right, I actually climbed up on a cobweb filled windowsill to accomplish the shot, photography sometimes is about getting dirty in order to get the right shot. In both images, I used natural window lighting to expose enough light on their faces.

MAYOR

This picture was taken in the Saloon. Normally, Erik, the model, is sitting in a dentist chair, however, I didn’t want to get the same old shot that everyone else did, so I asked him to go behind the bar and face a mirror and instructed him to adjust his bolo tie.

TEACHERThis is my favorite photo from the trip. This is in the schoolhouse in the Bannack Ghost town. Sarah, the model, is always so cheerful and I wanted to change that for this image. I told her to look at me like I was a student and I just put a tack on her chair and she sat on it--this was the result. I absolutely love it.

COWBOYSThese two fellows were a lot of fun to work with. The photo on the left, I just love the different textures from the wood, to the boot, to the wall, to the rope, and to the hole in his knee. For the image on the left, this gentlemen was a natural. We took him behind the barn and shot him...with a camera, in natural shaded lighting.

NATURESince I’ve started doing photography, I’ve grown a deep appreciation for nature and finding the small and simple things and bringing out the best in them. The bee image was taken outside my apartment complex. I used some macro tubes and got as close as I could before the bee flew away. The tulip picture was taken on the BYU-I campus. I happened to stumble upon it and had my camera in hand. I wanted to get a different perspective of the flower and happened to look inside the flower, noticing there was tan bark in it, and took this shot. I absolutely love it.

ARIALWhen doing the photo shoot on the left, the model asked if I wanted to see him so a cool jump. Here it is! I used an Einstein strobe light to achieve this lighting. For the image on the right, I placed her on a bench and had her act like she was floating to the ceiling. In Adobe Photoshop, I removed the bench and added some exposure dots to achieve a sparkle-pixie-dust-effect.

DETAILSThe small details, when magnified, become fascinating objects. Both of these images were from Bannack, Montana. The photo on the left was from a some old antique car that happened to visit the Ghost Town and let me take some pictures of his car. The image on the right, was from an old truck that is stationed on the Ghost Town property behind some houses.

JEWELRYThese images were from my perspective of twelve series I did of my jewelry box. I used some macro tubes to get a closer look of the details in different compartments of the jewelry box. I used window lighting to light the objects.

MYSTERIOUSOn the left. I have a picture of a ghost ,and on the right, I have a picture of the headless horseman. For the ghost image, I used a 10 second exposure to get the movement from the coffin, to rising up from the coffin (I just love how one of the wood knots makes it look like a gunshot wound to his head). For the headless horseman, I took two photos, one of the person on the carriage, and one more image of just the carriage and the background without the person, I then opened both images in Adobe Photoshop, and masked out the head.

FOODWho doesn’t love food! This was a very tasty photo shoot. The cupcakes, were from Cocoa Bean Cupcakes, I bought half a dozen and set up a little studio in my living room apartment using window lighting. For the waffles, I did some photography for Farmer’s Bakery, a local bakery in Rexburg, I set the food up near window lighting and used their wood table to get the shoot. Now, who’s craving some food? I sure am! These images always makes my mouth water!

MOTIONMotion can be a lot of fun to experiment with. In these two images I have two different kinds of motion. On the left, I have a long exposure, and on the right, I have a stop motion image. The image on the left was taken at night at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. I had a friend wave glow-sticks around while I used a long exposure to capture the motion. For the image on the right, I placed a small glass of water on my windowsill, added a few drops of food coloring to the water, and then took the image.
