Leadership/Organisations

Comfortable working with five, ten, 15 and 25 year time horizons and within turbulent & dynamically complex

environments. Values-Based Leadership and the creation of Shared Value for maximal top and bottom-line

results.

Fully integrated, collaborative, incremental Organisational Redevelopment and Re-Design, based in a Systemic

Approach - as opposed to a destructive, counter-intuitive Reductionist, Hierarchical systems construct - so as to

achieve Organisational Shared Vision and a true commitment to long-term, sustainable business growth,

improvement, innovation and profitability.

Working with and within Organisations to systematically break down functional ramparts and siloes, which have

the intent of pitting divisions against one another, to the detriment of the bottom line. Co-creating fully

integrated, collaborative Organisations, with a sense of communal purpose, motivation and “Wholeness”.

My leadership approach is hands-on, whilst at the same time, ensuring the full empowerment & development of

employees, via the co-creation of Organisation-wide sense of meaningful work & co-ownership of the

Organisation by all relevant stakeholders.

Are you ready to Transform – Shift Gears – Reignite the Joy of Work – AND improve your Organisation’s long-term success, sustainability and Innovations Engine? If you ticked the “ YES!” boxes – then Amanda Brinkmann is your next

Transformational, Future-Focused, Strategically-focused Leader

Applying 'Control Theory'design & tools, to ensure alignment of all Organisational Policies and a 'One-

View'Organisational Management Information System of Reporting, Response Mechanisms, Sensing, Planning,

Improvement and Innovation.

Strong on Strategic Leadership, Scenario planning, Organisational sensing, agility, adaptability - a Cybernetician,

with eyes on the business'progress in real-time. Lean management ensures optimal use of resources and minimal

waste. I focus on whole systems' integration.

Leading for constant change & innovation – running a parallel “Innovations and Improvement Engine”, without

disruption of the day-to-day operational requirements of Organisations.

The larger the challenge, the more complex the problems and objectives, the more comfortable and satisfied I

am. Large, complex problems are generally, when interrogated closely, actually ‘mere problems’, requiring

root-cause dissolutions and Systems Re-Design.

If you’re a progressive, innovative and visionary Organisation – open to real, impactful change and

improvement, then Amanda Brinkmann is the “there-is-no-box” leader whom you would benefit from engaging

with. Be aware though, that “I take my work incredibly seriously, but not so much myself.” I transfer the joy of

work, the excitement of not being able to wait to get to the office and to have fun while at work, into the

Organisational DNA and way of being.

Our relationship will be punctuated by the values of: Trust * Respect * Commitment * Dedication * Reigniting

Organisational-wide passion for Meaningful Work * Impactful & Measurable Change and Improvement * Agility *

Unlocking of Collective Intelligence * A true, Organisational-wide commitment to excellence, removal of

wastage & collaborative, concerted action.

Leadership is NOT about me – it is all about the real needs and future of the Organisation and its employees and

stakeholders. Satisfaction is derived from the progressive transformation of any Organisation with which I engage

and from the palpable and measurable improvements, satisfaction and joy of work, which emerges again, over

time.

For real change, improvement and innovation to become part of the Organisational DNA and ‘the lived brand

experience’, there needs to be the willingness, the courage and the patience to embrace and flow with the

highs, the lows and the ultimate growth trajectory related to “The Transformational Organisational Learning

Curve”.

experience: UPON request and/or during the interview processes

Contact me if you’re passionate about and committed to the beginning of a mutually beneficial journey of

growth, development, innovation and long-term mutual benefit.

I am NOT your ‘garden-variety’, old school [ and defunct] Management-by-Objectives type. I BELIEVE in,

inculcate and derive my core purpose and meaning from the deeply personal, internal joy and satisfaction of

watching individuals, teams and organisations find their communal passion.

That feeling of walking into the front doors and feeling the excitement and sense of ownership which permeates

transformed organisations, is what makes me tick and what puts a permanent smile on my face.

I am not afraid to face the truth and current reality – and to hold my own and the mental models of individuals,

teams and divisions to brutal scrutiny. Together – over time – within a focused, supported and end-goal oriented

evolving shared vision and adaptable, agile and context-relevant strategic framework, the ultimate pleasure lies

in seeing and delivering co-created successes – in all spheres of the business.

Sincerely

Amanda Brinkmann

Authors: Amanda Brinkmann

In this article, very simply named: Systemic Thinking [Williams, 2002:pgs 26-29], Bob Williams discusses

his conclusions as those relate to a recent review of systems approaches by Robert L Flood. In essence, Bob

Williams concludes that he agrees with the 3 basic paradoxes as set out by Robert Flood; those are: 1.1 We

cannot manage over things, but will manage the unmanageable 1.2 We cannot organise the totality, but will

organise within the unorganisable 1.3 We will not simply know things, but we will know the unknowable.

He furthermore discusses Flood#s thinking and methodologies conservative measurement metrix and that

he believes it would take quite some time before individuals and organisations are able to embrace Flood#s

integrated model of systems thinking, design and systemic evaluation. In most instances, I found resonance

Page10

with what Bob Williams has concluded as well as with Flood#s theories of systems thinking, but found the

article lacking in substance and further exploration of exactly how Flood arrived at his revised conclusions. I

shall therefore spend some time on fleshing out a range of concepts touched upon in Bob William#s article,

from both the critical as well as supportive perspectives. 2. Brief Biographies on Robert L Flood and Bob

Authors: Amanda Brinkmann

A Mini-modular EMBA 15 - UCTGSB - Modular Sub-Group Assignment. Based in Business Acumen and

with a week to study and interrogate the intricacies of the SA & Global Fishing Industry, various theories/

methodologies related to Business Acumen and Archetypes upon which to graft potential long-term solutions

to the Wicked Problems of Over-fishing - which is leading us, globally, to the Tragedy of the Commons.

The document starts with the PowerPoint Presentation that we had 5 minutes to present - quite a task for such

a large topic. The discussion document, though basic, does perhaps shed some light on the challenges that we

are currently facing globally - related to all natural resources. The requirement - writing only a 1000 word

report - using the work and thought done within the Appendices, does not allow for great depth. But perhaps

there is value to be found in the simplicity of the recommendations as well as within the simple, yet practical

methodological approaches employed. KULULA.COM - Case study Mini In-Class analysis - HAVING A BIT OF FUN WITH ANHISTORICALLY BASED CASE STUDY FOR ANALYSISAmanda Brinkmann October 9, 2013

Authors: Amanda Brinkmann

We had the privilege of having the inimitable Prof Geoff Bick as our Marketing Lecturer during Module 3

of the EMBA. For many students, this intense, Honours level exposure to Marketing is a completely new

experience. With 25 years of Marketing, Business, Advertising, Communications et al experience under

my belt, I must say that I have seldom enjoyed a lecture series as much as I did the two week intensive

course with Geoff. He is a seasoned marketer, a disruptive innovator, has a WICKED sense of humour and

is a MASTER at his craft. As part of our ' action learning' process, there was a requirement for each modular

group [ 6 members per group] to submit at least 4 of the assigned Case Studies. This entailed studying a

brief and answering or analysing questions specific to the brief. I was fortunate to draw the kulula.com story

Page11

out of the hat - and decided to have some fun with the Presentation as well as Analysis document. I kept

my peers in class - my audience - in mind - a great many engineers, CA's, metalurgists, PhD's etc - who

had not been exposed, in great detail to the principles of marketing. SO - I had some fun and learned quite

a bit about the ' birth' of kulula.com. A light-hearted piece of work that provided me with some space for

creativity and just playing with my studies. Aimed at anyone who is interested in...well...an interesting story

- see the brief as well as commentary within the document - as well as the basics of disruptive innovation

and how to take a brand to market within financial as well as economic limitations. African e-health Economics Forum: Amanda Brinkmann: Chairman - Two panel & group sessiondiscussions: Financial implications and implementation benefits of e-healthAmanda Brinkmann November 22, 2012

"Amanda epitomizes enthusiastic. There is no challenge, none whatsoever, that is too demanding for her.

When she throws herself into a task, she doesn't simply go through the motions - she becomes an expert in

that field. Then she begins to analyze, collate and research. She does her groundwork thoroughly, leaving

absolutely nothing to chance. And when she delivers, she does so with impact, making sure that every part

of the brief and more has been met. In between all of this, she motivates and inspires any and all people she

comes into contact with. She is not simply a deep-thinker. Her views are visionary. Life to her is a journey

and the people, projects and places she touches on that journey are all much better off for it. I have had

the pleasure of working with Amanda on many occasions and each time walked away having enjoyed the
