Marcia Scott Myers/Chuck Myers

By Lucy LaValley$

Marcia Scott was my pledge trainer at Alpha Gamma Delta at $Oregon State University In 1954.$ She was an inspirational sister who was very dedicated to AGD and to ensuring that my training and com-mitment was thorough. At the end of her senior year, when I was a sophomore, she graduated and married Chuck Myers.$ Chuck was a football player and a Sigma Alpha Epsilon at OSU.$ Chuck was in ROTC at OSU and entered the U.S. Navy after his graduation. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Chuck and Marcia moved to San Jose where he accepted a position with Lockheed Corp.$ Their family grew with the birth of their two children.

# Both Chuck and Marcia were very involved in and committed to our local Santa Clara AGD Alumni Club.$ Marcia was one of the organizers of SCVAC. They would often bring their camper and set it up at Flea Markets so that our club could use it while earning money for the club.$ Chuck would also volunteer to barbecue at our SCVAC summer parties.Marcia passed away after 43 years together. In 1999 Chuck was remarried to Susan Donaldson and they en-joyed eleven happy years together.

# Chuck passed away of diabetes on October 9, 2010. He always$lived life to the fullest, with lots of exu-berance, joy, and generous hospitality to others.$ As one example of Chuck's thoughtfulness, at least once per year, Chuck would journey to Le Grande, Oregon to visit with Marcia's mother, who is a 102-year-old Alpha Gam.#GO AGD!# # $# ~The memory of a good person is a blessing. Proverbs 10:7

! ~ Our condolences go out to Karen and Bob Myers for their loss. ~

From the Foundation ~ Making an Impact on Diabetes

As we celebrate Diabetes Awareness month, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation is proud of the support provided to organi-zations for diabetes education and awareness. Last fiscal year, Camp Possibilities was one of the nine organizations to re-ceive a Philanthropic Grant from the Foundation.

Camp Possibilities became a reality for Jeff Dietz, who was inspired to create a place for kids to learn about and manage their disease, after hearing of his 5 year-old niece’s diagnosis. This camp serves kids with diabetes in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Providing diabetes education and recreational experiences, the kids are empowered to take charge of their disease.

Many lives are touched through camps, family counseling programs and through the research and education about this epi-demic disease thanks to the support provided by Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation donors. For the lives impacted, thank you.

CAROL GREENE ~ EPSILON ! !

! ! ! !GAMMA Paul and I took a 3 1/2 week trip to the French Pyrenees in September.$ I was the navigator in the support vehicle for eight cyclists, most

of whom were from ACTC (Almaden Cycle Touring Club).$ They started cycling in Toulouse and ended in St. Jean de Luz in the South of France

near the Spanish border.$ My broken high school French and pantomime came in handy since not many of the local people spoke English.$ The people we encountered were very warm and gracious to us.$ Cha-Cha-Cha,

my bird puppet, even was invited to attend a French elementary school class one morning in a small town.$ The children sang Frère Jacques very well with the

puppet :-) Throughout the trip the Basque food and inexpensive wines were delicious. We also hiked in the mountains, toured the Niaux Cave with ancient cave paintings on the walls, and rode the aerial tram up to the Pic du Midi.$

CHELSEA SELLIN ~ DELTA TAU

A lot has happened since I wrote my last up-date for the Rambler; in fact, my life has al-most completely changed! First, after a long summer of job hunting, I finally got a job! I'm

an Historian with the Wells Fargo Family History Center. I'm work-ing in downtown San Francisco, doing historical and genealogi-cal research for

high net worth clients. I've been there over a month now and I'm really enjoying it. It's nice to be able to take all those years of school and put$them to use.

$$$ Second, I just rented an apartment in San Francisco! The commute from Los Gatos is pretty rough, plus I've been eager to get out on my own. So I signed a lease for a one bed-room apartment in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood and moved during the second week of November. Moving is never fun, but buying new furniture is!$$$ All in all, the last month has been pretty busy, but I'm eager to settle into my new life. Unfortunately, my involvement with the club has become extremely limited, but I'll do what I can and I hope everyone stays in touch!

PAM STUART~ALPHA OMICRON I was the players" Doctor for the Fry's Open

Golf PGA tourna-ment in October. My younger son, Daniel, is applying to col-leges. I just got back from a trip to south-ern California where

I spent Parent weekend with my son, Ben, at USC. Busy at work and training my "puppy," Coda, a purebred white German Shepherd. [email protected]

LEAH O"DONNELL~ OMICRON The last few months have been extremely

busy and stressful, but very exciting as well. $We have moved! $However, most of our furni-ture is still at the old house for stag-ing. My beloved

house is on the market now and is in the best shape of its life. $Check it out (and pass along to any friend you may know who are looking): MLS # 81048712 http://mlslistings.com/681-WILLOW-GLEN-WY-San-Jose-CA~i19$997227$RES Even with all this, we managed to get away. In September, we went for a weekend trip to Malibu. $The next weekend we went camping in Guerneville. We have spent much of the last two months prepping the house for sale, moving, and settling in. $We are now busy do-ing little fix-ups and personalizing the new house, and are beginning to personalize it.

Claire has adjusted quite well to the move and is enjoying the new house, yard, and neighborhood kids. She is ramping up on her conversational skills and memory. She likes to discuss what we are doing, what we did and what we are going to do. $She is counting to ten and knows most of her colors in Spanish and English. She is also a singing fiend! $She loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle, Old MacDon-ald, and Frère Jacques. $She also likes to make up parodies to Twinkle, Twinkle. Claire was very excited to have her second birthday party with her friends at the new house. $$Enjoy the photos:http://picasaweb.google.com/leahfera/ClaireMonth23And24#http://picasaweb.google.com/leahfera/CamingInGuerneville?pli=1#

GINNY SMITH ~BETA The time seems to fly by faster than a speed-ing bullet! I had such good intentions of get-ting to the September, then October & No-

vember meetings, but...I flew to MN in September to catch up with a high school friend I hadn't seen in years; October found me up in the Tahoe/Kirkwood area at meeting time & Novem-ber I had a house guest

for two weeks!! In between these activities, I've been doing my volunteer work at the Echo Shop, which raised over $76,000 to give to non-profits last year & is celebrating its 50th year - quite an impressive feat for a small shop, don't you think? I also chaired a church dinner for 200 people in mid-October & par-ticipated in a fund-raiser at Summerwinds nursery. This Saturday, (Nov.6th) I will help the friend whose book I helped with, at a book-signing session - the 3rd one this year. Activi-ties with friends & my family,$ keep me busy and I wonder how I ever did things while I was working! Guess that's what keeps me going! Happy Thanksgiving to all$-I'm going to make every effort to be at the December meeting!

[email protected]

SARAH CLISH ~ OMICRON The only new thing is that I am installing all

new windows (all 23 of them) in my home. The installation is to help with energy efficiency and to take advantage of the $1500 tax credit prior to year end. Jim and I are hosting our families for Thanksgiving, and this will be the first time that I will cook a turkey. In

the past, I have purchased a turkey pre-cooked from Zanotto"s, but at 48, I think I can now graduate!# [email protected]

NORMA FRANCE ~ BETA I had my elbow "cleaned up" on the 22nd of October - bone chip, fluid, re-attach tendon - and it was successful and I have had very little

pain.$ Mind you, I used Vi-codin at the first hint, so kept I ahead of it.$ I actually played bridge last Friday - with help on shuffling. We are heading down to Palm Springs for a long week-end - the impetus being the car auction.$ Dick and his

brother are volunteer drivers and have a blast driving all the different cars up onto the auc-tion block.$ Then we will head home for Thanksgiving. [email protected]

DEBBY HALL~DELTA XI I have been busy pulling out my pumpkin and

tomato plants now that the cool weather seems to be settling in to stay. I can hardly believe Halloween has passed and an-other season of growing summer

vegetables is over. My dreams of growing a "giant" pumpkin didn't turn out too well with the cool weather we had all summer. We ended up with one pumpkin approximately 40 pounds. There's always next year... :-) I've had a great time coaching Reagan's soccer team this season. I love walking across the school campus and having my players run up to say hi to "coach Debby". So fun!

The West Valley Walk-a-thon event that I co-chaired turned out to be a great success. We raised a record-breaking amount of money to support all the beneficial PTA programs at the school. Trevor walked 10 miles that day...abig surprise for all of us, especially his grand-parents who sponsored "per lap". We're excited to celebrate Thanksgiving in a couple weeks and remember all the things we have to be grateful for in our lives. Christ-mas will be here before we know it! The kids are already making their lists for Santa andlooking forward to all the fun traditions we have during the holidays. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting! [email protected]

SANDY GRIFFIN ~ DELTA IOTAWe spent two weeks in Florida at a timeshare that is actually within the gates of Disney World.$ Part of our stay was for the National

and World Left-Handed Golfers tournament.$ It was fun to see people from all over, and time in some of the Disney parks was also great fun.$ I also discov-ered that the national AARP Conference was

happening at the Orlando Convention Center during the last part of the week of the tourna-ment so I attended it for part of two days.$ It had an amazing number of people and lots of exhibits.$ Since I fall into the AARP category now, it was fun to learn a bit more about some of the benefits and hear some of the speakers.$ The inspiring man that the movie, Pursuit of Happyness was about spoke.$ Most recently, our family has been quite excited about the San Francisco Giants.$ We split season tickets with out oldest son so were given the "opportunity" to buy post sea-son tickets.$ We got to go to a couple of the play-off games and then the second World Se-ries Game.$ We watched the ones in Texas on TV, but even that was fun as we had a family dinner with some of our Chico relatives for one of the games and our three sons and their families gathered together$in San Jose to watch the Monday night game when they won the$title.$ Even though we were not with them, the phone calls were fun and it is great to know they would want to be together to do such a thing, even though our second son had to come down from Santa Rosa to do it.$ They all got to go to the parade, but we watched it on TV from here.$ I do hope to make it to an event some time this year.$$ I do miss those I know and would like to meet the newer mem-bers. CAROL PESKE ~ ALPHA BETA Our fall has revolved around Erich visiting schools and deciding where he will go to col-

lege and swim next year. It has been a roller coaster and, in the end, was a very difficult decision, but he decided that Stanford is the place for him! We could not be prouder. He has worked very hard to get to this place, both

academically and aquatically, and it has now paid off. Now he can relax and settle back into his "normal" high school routine and perhaps his parents can too. To top it all off, Richard just celebrated his 50th birthday. His sister came from Milwaukee for the festivities. We will be home for the holidays and look forward to having Chris back home from Davis for a few weeks. He is in his senior year and really getting into his major, archaeology. He just applied for a grant to analyze some Native American bones that were dug up west of Sacramento to see where they came from and how they died! Following in the footsteps of his grandpa who would be so proud if he were still with us! Life is good! [email protected]

DALLYN NEWMAN ~ PHI I have no interesting news. $Lately my days

are spent on a little gardening, reading ballot material to pre-pare for voting, doctor ap-pointments, and paying bills. [email protected]

PATTY SMITH ~ GAMMA PHI Fall started with our usual trip up to Oregon, to see the final six plays of the year at the Ore-gon Shakespeare Festival.$ From there, we

headed north to take Deirdre back to the Uni-versity of Washington for her Junior year.$ We returned home and sent our summer "daughter" back to UC Davis the

next week.$ Fortunately both girls were back at school, when I found out that my$aunt had died in Alabama.$ She had been in the hospital for nine weeks and my 84 year-old mother had been taking care of her.$ I was able to head out to$try to help with clean-ing out her house$and getting my mom to rest.$ I missed the September Alpha Gam meeting but made it back in time for Lunch Bunch.$$We had a great time there and at Bunco. Most of October was spent substitute teaching and going to the doctor.$ I am not good about going for check-ups so I dedicated a couple of weeks to seeing all my doctors.$ I had a lot of fun with the Carols (Greene and Peske) and Jessica from the San Francisco Alumnae Chapter$on the JDRF walk.$ We took forever to walk across the bridge,$ stopping to talk to$the girls directing the walkers who were$AGD undergraduates from SF State.$$$We also met one of the new members (who I probably scared to death by squealing and giving her a hug).$ My husband, Jeff, con-tinues his sailing out of the Berkeley Marina and is in the process of buying a second sailboat.$ (I'm not sure how he plans to sail two boats).$ This one will be small enough to pull on$a trailer, so he will be able to take it to Tahoe.$ I'm looking forward to my daughter returning for Thanksgiving and for the fact that friends are hosting this year, so I don't have to clean my house. BETTY WYATT ~ DELTA EPSILON I still have two neutered females and l un-altered male cat$who are nine months old and

desperately need new homes.$ They are lovely, healthy kitties. The girls, Panda and Nibbles, had all the goodies when they had their coming-out party at the Vet's.$ Ditto, the male, is a

handsome big tuxedo (black with white paws, whiskers, and bib). They unfortunately were born with a bumper crop of kittens in February and we were unable to get rid of them. The Humane Society won't take them because they have a shelter (with us). I tried every way I could to get the San Jose shelter or one of the cat rescue groups to take them.$ I guess they know$a Patsy when they see her so I am stuck with them.$ I couldn't even give them away on Hallowe'en night as treats--kids were enthused but there was always a parent to say no.
