All-State Choir The All-State Choruses are highly select groups of choral students from Florida's junior high, middle and senior high schools who are brought together for the purposes of rehearsing and performing selected music with guest conductors. There are three rigorous tests that students have to succeed on in order to go to All-State: 1. Written Musician Exam (Sept 27 @ Seminole High School 8:00 AM)– which is a test on basic theory knowledge such as note values, listening, and music vocabulary. This will make up 30% of the composite score. Then you move on to 2. Sight-Singing Exam (September 27 @ Seminole High School 8:00 AM)– which is a test where you must sight-read as many measures as possible out of 24 measures. This will make up 35% of the composite score. If you pass both tests, you move on to 3. Singing Audition (October 24 @ Winter Springs High School 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM) – which tests your knowledge of your All-State music and vocal tone/technique. This makes up the final 35% of the composite score. After all the tests are completed, students are given an over- all composite score. Middle School Treble and Mixed choruses are both filled based on highest composite scores. However, schools that do not earn a seat in either middle school chorus will get a representative seat for their student with the highest passing composite score. That student will bump the lowest scoring student in the all state chorus on that voice part. The purpose of this packet is to give you a head start on preparing for this test. I have included everything you need to know in order to gain the knowledge needed to succeed on this test! May the force be with you!

necessary to qualify (minimum passing grade) for the All State Choirs (35/50 questions correct)

individual audition. Students will be recorded singing selected All State pieces using a “minus one” recording (recording plays all parts but theirs) and be evaluated anonymously.

2. To pass this audition, a student must fully know their voice part (all words and pitches), sing with appropriate tone (round vowels and crisp consonants), and sing using correct phrasing (breathing) and dynamics. Students must be ready to perform all of the requirements to all of the songs.

3. Rehearsal Tracks will be provided by Mr. Ernst after the first audition, to help students learn the music.

Thurs-Sat. January 14-17, 2015 All State Rehearsals and Concert FMEA Convention Tampa, FL Rehearsal and performance times TBD Only students that are given a

ticket in November (passed all parts of every audition and received the highest overall scores), will participate in this event. There are only a certain number of tickets given for each voice part. Once that number is reached, no more students are selected to participate in All-State Chorus.
