Emerging Greek Leaders Summit

The annual Emerging Greek Leaders Summit was a huge

success this year! The theme “Standing out, but never standing

alone” truly described the heart of the Greek Experience at

Ashland University.

The weekend was hosted by the Greek Life Office and

coordinated by Rhema Centanni, Chris Beisel and Casey

Neer. The event was run with the assistance of facilitators who

were interviewed and selected from the entire Greek

community. These facilitators led small groups consisting of

members from the fraternities and sororities.

Participants were engaged in small and large group sessions, all

geared towards sharpening their leadership skills. They

covered topics including trust, communication, values,

commitment and the importance of community. At the end of

the weekend, participants were able to reconvene with their

own chapter members to develop action plans in order to

implement some of the lessons they learned through EGLS.

Neer, one of the co-coordinators, summed up his thoughts

about EGLS in the following quote “What I like most about

EGLS is that it gets the new members to actually think about

themselves (in terms of what kind of leader they are or even

what kind of person they are). Not many of us sit down and

think about what is going on around us, in our community, and

what we can do to better ourselves and to better the

community. It's a time for reflection which is great because we

need that in our busy lives.”

Sara Amato, a facilitator and current President of Alpha Phi,

explained “EGLS gave me the opportunity to see the future

leaders of Greek Life grow together! It was so rewarding and I

absolutely loved it!” Dane Zunich, also a facilitator and current

President of Phi Kappa Psi, echoed similar ideas. Zunich

explained “EGLS was a terrific experience. I am honored to

have had the chance to come full circle and give back to a

program that helped me to become a leader. It was very

rewarding to interact with fellow Greek members and celebrate

what makes us a community. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet

new people and work with the future of Greek Life at Ashland

University.”

Everyone involved truly benefitted from the weekend! Many

left EGLS with a strong sense of Greek pride and community.

We are excited to see the positive impact the future Greek

leaders will make throughout their four year at Ashland.
