DAY 2 SIEM REAP–ANGKOR WAT–JUNGLES–ANGKOR THOM Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we depart pre-dawn for a short drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor. Angkor Wat is the prized temple of what is now known as the Angkor Archaeological Park. The city of Angkor was built in the 12th century for King Suryavarman II. When built, the ancient city extended over 400 kilometres, making it the largest pre-industrial city in history. Archaeologists are still unsure of what happened to this vast empire and its people. We will continue into the jungle to hear the monkeys and a see variety of flora and fauna. We will finally meander through the gates of Angkor Thom. Ta Prohm is one of the most photographed temples, deliberately left mostly unrestored, and tangled and strangled by undergrowth. The perennial favorite, at Angkor Thom, is the Bayon temple, the towers of which are etched with enlightened bodhisattva faces and where enchanting bas-reliefs depict ordinary Khmer life rather than Hindu gods. We will head back to the hotel mid-afternoon so you can relax by the pool or stroll through the town of Siem Reap.To-night we will enjoy a lovely dinner together. (B, L, D)

DAY 3 SIEM REAP–PREAH KHANToday we will get a good look at life in the villages in Cambodia as we head out to see Preah Khan- one of the most amazing archaeological sights in Southeast Asia and the largest religious building in the world.
