One of the most strategic industries

• A settled, cost-driven and traditional sector

• However, economical and environmental considerations have been reshaping the sector

“Several applications have been developed to improve the durability and enhance performance of the construction components, (to improve) energy efficiency and safety of the buildings, facilitating the ease of maintenance and to provide living comfort”

• Although stated for Europe in 2009, it seems to be currently valid for developments in the Colombian construction industry

• The primary goal of the NANOROADMAP project was to provide coherent scenarios and technology roadmaps up to the year 2015 to identify the opportunities most relevant for Europe that could materialise in this ten year time horizon from nanotechnology application in three specific sectors:

- materials; - health and medical devices; - energy

• Two steps approach: A first phase, dedicated mainly to the collection of information to determine the general scenario to start from, followed by a second phase dedicated to the preparation of the road maps and dissemination activities, discussions and feedback.

Multiple potential applications of nanotechnology in the Colombian

industrial sectors

With increasing proliferation of nanoparticles, nanointermediates and

nano-enabled products, there is a need of establishing regulations

that guarantee human health and occupational safety

Linked to that, standardization is critical (it is being dealt with by
