Albany Hills State School Herald
Tuesday 26 March | Week 6, Term 2
WELCOME BACK
Welcome to our first full edition of The Herald for Term 2!
Congratulations and thank you to our parents and caregivers for your support over recent times. Our staff have appreciated your patience and understanding and have valued the opportunity to work in partnership with you in the best interests of our students.
I would like to sincerely thank all of our staff who have managed to navigate an ever-changing environment. Every single member of our staff demonstrated their ability to be flexible to adapt with very short timelines. Teachers have worked collaboratively in their teams and have innovated to make learning accessible for students. They have worked hard to communicate effectively with their students and parents.
Lastly, congratulations to our students who have had to adapt to a new way of learning. They have demonstrated resilience and independence and they have already settled into their new school routines with ease. We are all very proud of you.
As a school community, we have risen to meet the challenges presented to us over the past couple of months. I look forward to continuing to work together as a community and to build on the strong relationships we have developed.
I have the best job in the world!
Principal Chris Hansen

CHAPLAINCY WEEK 25-31 MAY
It’s Chappy Week from 25 - 31 May, and this year Queensland celebrates 30 years of chaplaincy in schools. Chappy Glenn is our school’s original chaplain and has been an integral part of our community for 13 years. We would like to thank Glenn for the wonderful work he does in our school and the wider community each and every day; and most notably the support he has provided to students, families and staff in the challenging times we have all experienced recently.

OUR NEWS FROM THE HPE DEPARTMENT
Thanks to all of the families who touched base during their time at home to show us all the amazing things you have been doing. Some of the highlights for me included a family that distributed happy rocks around their neighbourhood, a family that created a bootcamp at home, two students who raised funds for charity by doing a virtual fun run and a student doing an intense stairs workout.
It's been so pleasing to see so many families out and about enjoying some moderate exercise, either by riding/walking to school or after school. I’d really like to encourage you to keep up this routine as much as possible. One of the benefits of this lockdown has been the ability to lead a simple life and enjoy time spent together. It’s such a precious thing so let’s keep it up.
We have had some enquiries about sports days and at the moment are not able to commit to anything due to the changing rules around gatherings. Mr Moores and I have some plans in place and we will certainly let you know what our final decision will be in plenty of time.
Lastly we’d like to thank all of you for the immense sacrifices you all made supporting your children through the lock down. So far students returning to school have been happy to be here and back into routine.

Library News…
LIBRARY BORROWING
With the return to school for all students this week, we are returning to Library borrowing, with some
changes.
The recommendation is that the books must sit for 72 hours before being re-shelved. This has meant a
few changes to our library routines. The following is the new borrowing routine:
1. All books returned on the morning of borrowing between 8.45-9.00
2. Arrive at borrowing time. (Sanitise hands on entry)
3. Browse & borrow as normal. (Normal hygiene regarding coughs & sneezes)
4. Those not borrowing must sit down and wait quietly. (No magazinesavailable)
5. Students can renew loans of own books, but not borrow one someone else just had.
6. Sanitise hands on the way out.
The books will be re-shelved and available in 72 hours from returning.
We are also still encouraging students to bring their own library bags to protect the books.

YEAR 1 & 2 SUPER READER SHEETS
We realise that there has been quite a gap in this program but we will return to this now too. If you have
recorded the books read at home during isolation (even if not on the recording sheet), we will accept that
list too.
Students can bring the sheets to the library, at their convenience to receive stickers and recognition.
We will still be issuing awards for Super Readers.
LIBRARY BEFORE SCHOOL
We miss seeing families come into the library in the morning before school to read together and look
forward to a time when we can sit together again.
For the time being, before school, the library will not be open for gathering but we will be open for
returning books and getting Super Reader Sheets checked. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
LIBRARY AT BREAK TIMES
Due to restrictions on play areas, the library is open for students at the following breaks:
Monday – Year 6 only
Tuesday – Year 5 only
Wednesday – Year 4 only
Thursday – Year 3 only
Friday – Year 6 only
Thank you for your understanding in these times,
Dale Robertson & Raina McCarthy
NCCD INFORMATION
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
Head of inclusion, Zoe Elsworth has a parent letter available in The Herald this week. If you have any questions about the NCCD, please do not hesitate to contact Zoe at the school. [email protected]
