Letha, Vice Chancellor, CUSAT was addressing the new entrants to the engineering profession at the function “Schola Brevis-16”, for students of 2016 batch, on July 29, 2016. His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarakal, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Verapoly, and the patron of the institution, in his presidential address, cautioned the students to be wary of the pitfalls present in the digital world of today and SCHOLA BREVIS-16 urged them to keep away from such distractions. Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, welcomed the gathering, and Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, outlined the vision and values of the institution. Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, mentioned that the need of the hour is to create graduate engineers and not engineering graduates. The function was followed by student motivational talks by eminent academicians like Prof. Dr. Edward Edezhath and Prof. Dr. P. X. Joseph. INDEPENDENCE DAY celebration witnesses stone laying ceremony of FIRST “AISAT ASHWAS BHAVAN” The Independence Day was celebrated by the students and staff of the college on August 15, 2016. To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, AISAT unfurled the tricolour and Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, delivered the Independence Day message. Dr. Vipin V Roldant, HOD and Chief Consultant Psychologist, Sunrise Institute of Medical Sciences, unveiled the model of “ASHWAS BHAVAN-1” and gave a motivational talk which emphasized the power and happiness of giving than receiving. AISAT ASHWAS CENTRE is now on a greater mission “Home for YUSHU '16 AISAT organized a three day programme, 'YUSHU '16', which in Japanese means “Excellence”, aiming at the holistic development of the 2016 batch students from June 26 -28, 2016. The various sessions for the three days were' Wi Fi' - Wireless Fidelity to Life, 'HE=EH' - Heart of Engineering and 'LED' - Life Experience through Drama. Rev. Fr. John Capistan Lopez, Mr Shaju Cherian, Mr Paul Ansel V, Associate Professor, Department of ECE and Ms Veena V, Associate Professor, Department of CE were the resource persons for the various sessions. The sessions helped the students to get to know themselves and build up their confidence, and understand the engineering concepts. the Homeless”. As a part of this mission, the foundation stone laying ceremony of ASHWAS BHAVAN – 1 took place in the identified plot at Vadakkum Bagam, Eloor, near Infant Jesus Convent.

· Digital Literacy training program for students and NSS programme officers of different engineering and polytechnic college in Ernakulum district was hosted by AISAT NSS Technical cell on June 26, 2016.

· Dr. Beatrice Amar, Red Deer College, Canada delivered a talk on 'Student-Centred Teaching Techniques' and interacted with the faculty members on July 8, 2016.

· Dr.Jayaraman C, General Secretary, SEEM gave a talk on 'Introduction to Energy Audit and Practices' on July 14,2016 for all faculty members and laboratory staff members.

· The Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting of the Department of CE was held on July 18, 2016, Department of ME was held on July 19, 2016 and Department of CSE was on July 22,2016 at AISAT.

· Mr. Antonio Joseph and Mr. Arun.V, Assistant Professors, Department of ME, conducted classes on SCILAB for S7 ME students on July 19-22, 2016.

· The Department of ECE conducted a one day workshop program on “Basics of LaTeX”, handled by Ms.Reshma Mary Jose, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE for the S7 ECE students on July 19, 2016.

· One week hands-on workshop on C programming was conducted for S3

KAIZEN '16

KAIZEN '16 – the annual faculty development programme was held on July 2, 2016 at Atmadarshan campus, Aluva, with Prof. Harry Cleetus, former Principal, St. Alberts College as the chief resource person. In his presentation on “Institution building-Challenges and Opportunities”, he elaborated on the various steps of building up an institution and urged the faculties to actively participate in the endless journey towards success. An interactive discussion on the personal achievements and goals of the faculties, followed by a gaming session made the day memorable. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvasserry, Manager, Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, Rev. Fr. Alex Kurisuparambil, Associate Manager, Rev. Fr. John Christopher, Assistant Manager and Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, were also present during the event.

AISAT NSS Unit conducts Medical Camp

AISAT NSS Unit, in association with Lourdes hospital, Ernakulam conducted a medical camp on July 10, 2016 in connection with the three day mini-camp held at the campus. The inaugural ceremony was blessed by the presence of Ms. Rukhiya Jammal and Ms. Veemol Varghese, the Kalamassery Municipal Councilors. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, Rev. Fr. Alex Kurishuparambil, Associate Manager and Prof. Dr. K. E. George, Principal were present for the function. Medical camp included doctors from the departments of Pediatrics, Gynecology, ENT, Dietetics and Orthodontics. About 157 patients registered and attended the medical camp and they were also provided free medicines.

Talk on 'Student Centered teaching techniques'

Dr. Beatrice Amar, Professor, Red Deer College, Canada delivered a talk on 'Student-Centred Teaching Techniques' and interacted with the faculty members on July 8, 2016. She explained the concepts of learner-centred and teacher-centred learning. She said that it is the duty of every teacher to impart the 4 C'S – Communication, Creativity, Critical thinking and Collaboration in students which are the skills required in this 21st century. The session was extremely interactive with a few activity-sessions which gave more importance to learner-centred course planning.

GIJUTSU-16

GIJUTSU-16, the All Kerala B.Tech Project Competition jointly organized by AISAT, Department of ME, and Alumni Society of AOTS, Kerala (ASA KERALA) was held at AISAT campus on August 19, 2016. The event was inaugurated by Er. Lakshmi Narayanan, General Manager, SIFL Trissur. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvasserry, Manager, AISAT presided over the function. School of Engineering, CUSAT stood first, Rajadhani Engineering College was second and Matha Engineering College came third. Rev. Fr. Alex Kurisuparambil, Associate Manager, Rev. Fr. John Christopher, Assistant manager, Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, Er. S. Gopakumar, Mr. Jimmy Joseph, Mr. Hudson Peter and Mr. Subramanian, members of ASA KERALA were present during the event.

Technology should be a helping hand for physically-disabled

- Prof. John Ganzarolli Vincente de Oliveira

'The development in technology should aid the physically-disabled people and should make their life easier'- Prof. John Ganzarolli Vincente de Oliveira, Professor, UFRJ Federal University of Rio de Janeiro said while addressing AISAT family during one day seminar held on September 3, 2016. He explained how well this model has been put into effect and urged the engineers to be in forefront in making the life of disabled people easier. The session was highly interactive and he emphasised the importance of bringing the differently abled people into the mainstream with the support of arts.

The IGS-AISAT Award, for the best M Tech thesis in Geotechnical engineering in Kerala was awarded to Mr. Basil Jaimon of SOE, CUSAT for his exceptional work on ' Laboratory studies on “The development of synthetic waste and stability of bioreactor landfills' by Prof. Dr. G.V. Rao, Former Professor & Dean, Indian

Institute of Technology, Delhi during fifth Praphulla Kumar Lecture on August 6, 2016 at Hotel Mercy. The event was jointly organized by Indian Geotechnical Society Kochi Chapter and AISAT. The winners of the 'Procomp 2015-16'- annual project competition for the final year B.Tech students jointly organised by Graduates' Association of Consultant Engineers(GRACE) and Department of CE, held at AISAT on June 23, 2016 were also awarded prize money, plaque, citation and certificates at the ceremony. The Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya prize for the best project was bagged by Ms. Merlin John and team of AISAT. Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, Prof. Dr. K. E. George, Principal, Prof. Vincent K. John, Vice principal, the faculty members and a lot of invitees were also present to foster the young innovative minds.

Green Campus Day Celebration

AISAT nature club organised “Green Campus Day” celebration on August 4, 2016. Prof. Dr. K. E. George, Principal, AISAT welcomed the gathering. The program began with a talk on 'Relevance of nature protection' delivered by Swami Samvidanand, Chief Coordinator, Green Vein Organisation. The talk was followed by sapling plantation at the campus, which was inaugurated by Rev..Fr. Alex Kurishuparambil, Associate Manager, and Swami Samvidanand. Principal, Prof. Dr. K. E. George, Staff coordinator of AISAT Nature club, Ms. Sreelekha K.V., all the first year B.Tech students, HODs of various departments and faculty members of AISAT also planted saplings.

Awareness Program on 'ROAD SAFETY' in the loving memory of Mr. Arjun S

AISAT organized an awareness program on 'ROAD SAFETY', in the loving memory of Mr. Arjun S, student, Department of EEE, who passed away in a road accident on July 24, 2016. Ms. Kanaka Xavier, HOD, Department of EEE delivered a condolence speech remembering late Mr. Arjun S. Mr. Sadik Ali, RTO in his speech enlightened the students on the need of wearing helmet while riding bikes.

During the awareness session, Mr. Adarsh Kumar, JRTO mentioned the need for following an ontogenetic learning system in driving, which focuses on developing a careful and attentive driving skill. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager & Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, AISAT shared their views on road safety.

Teachers' Day celebrations at AISATNSS AISAT unit organized Teachers' day celebrations on September 5, 2016. In the official function a cake cutting ceremony marked the happiness of

sharing. The student representatives of NSS Unit, created a lot of fun-filled moments for their beloved teachers. Prof. Dr. K.E. George, Principal, delivered the teachers' day message. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, Rev. Fr. Alex Kurisuparambil, Associate Manager, Rev. Fr. John Christopher, Assistant Manager, Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, and Prof. Vincent K. John, Vice principal also participated in the celebrations.

Onam Celebrations at AISAT

AISAT celebrated onam on September 9, 2016 upholding the message of togetherness. The chief guest of the day was Mr. Joy Johnson, MD, 'Zeta Software'. The traditional Panchavadyam, Tug of war, Uriyadi, Musical chair, Onappattu, Thiruvathirakali, Pookalam competition, Onasadhya – each event added charm and gaiety to the celebration. The real colours and flavours of Kerala filled the campus through the wonderful orchestration of the events by the students and faculties. The management, staff and students supported and participated wholeheartedly in the Onam extravaganza.

Faculty AchievementCongratulations to Mr. Arun V, Assistant Professor, Department of ME, for securing a third rank in M-Tech, Marine Engineering from CUSAT.

Student Achievementl Ms. Merlin John of S8 CE, underwent the selection process

of the Indian Navy at Bangalore on March 3, 2016 and was selected as commissioned officer in Indian Navy to the post of Sub-Lieutenant. She is one among the 2 Keralites to bag the coveted position. She joined the Ezhimala Naval Academy for her training on July 30, 2016.

l The following are the 2012-16 batch toppers from the various departments in the recently published MG University B.Tech, final year examination results – Ms. Neba C. Tony from CE, Ms. Mamatha Vishal from CSE, Ms. Devika P.V. from EEE, Ms. Riya Benny from ECE and Mr. Joshua M. Joy from ME.

News from Placement and Training CellThe first in-house placement drive for the 2013-2017 Batch was from ‘Think N Learn’, Bangalore on August 5, 2016.Of the 30 selected among 250 candidates from 24 colleges across Kerala, 10 were AISATians.

Apart from the In house training activities, the following outside agencies imparted training to the students. ‘Konfidence’ Team on Aptitude - during August 6-7, 2016, ‘Trinity Skill Works’ on Communication Skills, Professional Etiquette and Grooming during August 20-21, 2016 and General Aptitude and Interview Tips by ‘ The Chopras’ on August 23 & 26, 2016.

August 30, 2016.

l Mr. Antonio Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of ME presented a

paper on “Finite Time Thermodynamics: Recent Development and Future

scope” at National conference FAME2K16 College of Engineering,

Thalassery, on August 7 & 8, 2016. He also presented a paper on “Swirl

induced heat transfer enhancement technique in automotive applications” at

NAFEMS 3D International Conference, Bangalore on August 30, 2016.

l Prof. Anandan G, Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities, attended

a workshop on “Business Economics” organized by KTU at Model

Engineering College, Thrikkakkara on September 5 and 6, 2016.

l A session on 'Ragging and its Consequences' was conducted for the

students on August 3, 2016 with Mr. Rajesh, Advocate, High Court of Kerala

and Mr. Mohin C.S., Sub Judge as the main resource persons.

l A one day seminar was organized by the Department of ECE, to throw light

on the various prospects of studying electronics on August 5, 2016. Dr. M.

V. Rajesh, Professor, College of Engineering, Poonjar was the resource

person.

l A workshop on “Open Technology Training for Engineers” for EEE, ECE and

CSE faculty was organized on August 6, 2016 and the resource person was

Mr. Ashok Shenoy, a corporate trainer.

l Inter class AlSAT Football Federation Championship came to a conclusion,

when it crowned S7 ME, as the winners of the tournament on August 19,

2016 after a week long competitive football in the campus ground. The

runners up of the tournament were S3 ME.

l Mr. Arunkant A. Jose, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE and

Mr. Thomas Felix, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE conducted a

seminar on 'Makers Workshop' on August 6, 2016.

l Mr. Calixtus Vincent and Mr. Alex Paul, Assistant Professors, Department of

ME, assisted S5 Mechanical students for Industrial visit to MIL Controls Pvt

Ltd, Mala on August 10, 2016.

l Meet the Elders programme, “Interacting with Entrepreneur” for S3 and S5

ME students, was held on August 12, 2016. Mr. Feroz Rahman, CEO of

Trans Sight Systems Pvt .Ltd ., was the resource person.

l The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, organized a one day

computer hardware exhibition, 'ENIGMA' on August 18, 2016.

l Special faculty meeting with the spiritual guru Rev. Fr. Bobby Jose as the

main resource person was held on August 20, 2016 at AISAT Seminar hall.

l On August 20, 2016 Mr. Arunkant A. Jose and Ms. Reshma Mary Jose,

Assistant Professors, Department of ECE, along with 19 students of S3 ECE

visited KELTRON, Aroor.

l A talk on 'Life saving first aid' was organized at AISAT on September 3, 2016.

Dr. Varma was the chief resource person.

l The team consisting of S5 CE students and faculty members, Prof. Vincent K.

John, Vice Principal, Ms. Sheeja M.K, Mr.Rahul R. Pai and Mr.Neeraj U.K,

Assistant Professors, Department of CE visited the Ashwas Bhavan - I

at Eloor.

l The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a seminar

on "Security & Usability of password systems" on September 7, 2016 and

the resource person was Dr. Samrat Mondal, from IIT Kharagpur.
