ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND PILOT STUDIES

Establishing the precise nature of a problem is the first step to solve it. Air Clean offers a 360-degree service for air quality monitoring, covering both traditional and innovative techniques (olfactometry and dispersion modelling). In some applications, the sheer characterization of the target flow is not sufficient to identify an effective treatment technique. In such cases, Air Clean provides on-site pilot installations, in order to ascertain the actual footprint of the proposed systems.

DISPERSION MODELLING

The dispersion of odour/chemical contaminants is modelled using the U.S. EPA approved ISCST2 and Complex 1 models. This procedure takes into account all the relevant criteria to assess the spread and environmental impact of the emissions. It also allows to verify the compliance with national laws and international directives.

PILOT STUDIES Pilot studies are aimed at collecting further, detailed information to make sure that a specific technological solution will solve a given problem. Moreover, they offer better guarantees that the installation to be purchased will actually meet the client’s requirements. By carrying out these pilot studies, the impact that a full-scale system is likely to have on the surrounding area can be predicted.

BIOFILTRATION AND BIOSCRUBBING

Biological air treatment techniques is now a standard in numerous sectors (i.e. civil wastewater treatment and odour removal in waste treatment). Air Clean provides biofilters by utilising the most suitable media (granular and fibrous peat) and bacteria for every single effluent. The most complex applications (industrial air treatment) require biological washing systems, such as bioscrubbing. In both systems, Air Clean can count on the expertise acquired by Bord na Mona, an Irish company for which it is exclusive distributor of the patented MonaFil and MonaShell technologies.

COMPOSTING PLANTS

In the field of waste treatment, Air Clean manufactures automation-intensive, biodynamic composting plants involving accelerated fermentation processes. These plants are based on self-propelling turners that control and work the biomass placed on several trenches. Such installations are complemented by automated systems for biomass loading and compost unloading, resulting in increased productivity and lower running costs.

BIOFILTRATION AND BIOSCRUBBING (Summary Details)

The main technologies:

MÓNAFIL® (biofilter) utilises a support made of peat media, specifically designed to guarantee longevity and excellent removal efficiencies for a broad range of polluting compounds. MÓNASHELL® (bioscrubber) is a unique biological system utilising shells as a support medium for the treatment of high, variable levels of H2S, mercaptans, ammonia, alkyl sulphide and medium/low concentrations of VOC. Compared to conventional biofiltration systems, the MonaShell technology offers several advantages, among which are reduced loading losses and therefore lower energy consumption, high efficiencies especially on organic compounds, automatic control of humidity and pH, a filtration bed specifically shaped to facilitate mass transfer, buffer capacity of washing solution, durable filtration material.

MÓNASHELL EbF® (bioscrubber) is a new patented process for the treatment of high levels of VOC

from various industrial processes. This technology represents the latest breakthrough in the extensive research programme undertaken by Bord na Móna Environmental LTd. Laboratories. Air Clean contributed to such an initiative with its own experience in developing solutions to adequately meet ventilation and air pollution abatement requirements for every single application. All these patented systems result in lower footprint than conventional biofilters (based on compost or wooden chips).
