1. Create an environment for chemical engineering students to learn, design, and optimize a chemical process, without the pressure of grades, and with the guidance of senior peer mentors.
2. Build confidence in design skills and reinforce/ learn interesting topics in chemical engineering.
3. Be able to improve skills useful to increase your participation in student engineering societies, job/internship opportunities, and engineering professional student design teams.
4. Increase teamwork, professional networking and design skills for early chemical engineering undergraduates.
When and Where? ● Two-hour design workshops will be held in the NEB 101, you must be available for all 10
weeks to participate! ● The time of day for the workshops are: Every Thursday from 10:40am-12:35pm ● Starts on February 7 th , 201 to April 11 th , 2019.
How to participate: ● Participants must be available to commit to attend all seven workshops! ● Workshop Logistics:
○ Online instructional videos will be watched independently. ○ Participate weekly in mini design challenges in a collaborative setting. ○ Weekly topics include: UniSim training, simulation exercises/challenges that
introduce unit operations design (e.g., Reactors, Pumps, Heaters, Coolers, Mixers, and Tees), common industry equipment, economics and level appropriate parametric optimization.
○ Final design project, oral presentation, and mini report. ○ Voluntarily participate in engineering education surveys. ○ There is no cost for participation, but you will need a computer to install the
software that will be used. Windows computers are preferred, but there are ways to make it work with Macs.
