Weekly Update July 3, 2019 Our Vision We are a growing community of believers committed to walking with Christ, welcoming all, and serving God by serving others. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Vacation Bible School or VBS as it’s often known, has been a new tradition here at Christ Church for 5 years. We have partnered with Warwick United Methodist church all these years to offer a safe and fun filled week for children in our area. But VBS is more than fun, it’s also an opportunity for formation. The adult and junior volunteers work hard to provided instruction through readings, crafts, drama and outdoor activities that bring the Bible lessons alive for children. All the scripture taught is done so in ways that meet the children where they are in their developmental stage and are designed to interest them in a lifelong journey of discovering their Creator. I remember well my first experience in VBS at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. This was before churches were air conditioned and the classes were held outside under the great oak trees with the Spanish moss hanging down and swaying in the desperately needed breeze. The lesson that day was on the commandment to honor thy parents. The craft was the take cleaned out empty Baskin Robins Ice containers and to cover them with remanants of wallpaper in a decorative-ish fashion and turn them into wastepaper baskets. We made these as a gift to our parents with a pledge to help take out the trash when they were filled. Funny how something from 1967 can stick with a young child. But a seed was planted. And that’s what we are doing with VBS here. Planting seeds and watching them develop within our young people. I hope you will send your children to be a part of the formative week here at Christ Church. If you can volunteer, we need you. Please contact our Director of Children’s Ministries, Carly Tosh at [email protected] There are many opportunities for people to help with. Blessings, Fr. Jim

But VBS is more than fun, it’s also an opportunity for formation. Dear Pantry Supporter:

Please help us make this summer a little nicer for needy families and their children.

Each summer, from mid-June through mid-September, in addition to its regularservice, the pantry provides to families of school age children pre-filled bags of kid-friendly food. We do this in recognition of extra need during summer vacation: schoolbreakfast and lunch programs, as well as backpack snack attack, are not available.Hunger, however, especially for children, does not take a vacation.

On the second page of this letter is a list of the groceries we need to fill one bag. Pleasepurchase enough groceries to fill as many bags as your pocketbook and heart allow. Orpurchase a portion of a bag. Or contribute ShopRite or Price Chopper gift cards(sometimes the Food Bank, where prices are way low, is short and we shop locally). If more convenient, a check mailed to the pantry, Attention: Summer Program, or adonation made at our website www.warwickpantry.com,will be welcome.

Questions or other inquiries may be made to Glenn P. Dickes, director of the pantry, at845-986-8368 or [email protected]. Thank you for past and current support.

Contributions may be delivered to the pantry at:Warwick United Methodist Church
