Statue of Nelson Mandela Unveiled at South African Embassy in Washington, DC

Saturday, September 21, 2013Washington, DC

A statue of former South African president NelsonMandela was unveiled Saturday at the grounds ofthe South African Embassy in Washington, D.C.,the site where four protestors were arrested in 1984– an event credited with spurring anti-apartheidsanctions against South Africa. The 3 meter statue, a replica of the sculpture

outside the gates of Drakenstein CorrectionalCentre in South Africa where Mandela wasreleased after 27 years in apartheid-era jails, is thework of South African artist Jean Doyle, who mod-eled the sculpture from photographs of Mandelaleaving the prison in 1990, his fist is raised tri-umphantly over his head. Ebrahim Rasool, SouthAfrica’s ambassador to the United States, noted thestatue stands across the street from a statue ofBritish Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who isalso depicted with his hand over his head but withtwo fingers raised, flashing the V for victory sign.Suggesting the two statues are engaged in a gameof Rock-Paper-Scissors, Rasool noted that “rockbeats scissors.”A plaque at the base of the statue quotes from

Mandela’s address to a joint session of Congressmonths after his release in 1990.

“The stand you took established… that here wehave friends… fighters against racism who feelhurt because we are hurt, who seek our successbecause they too seek the victory of democracyover tyranny. I speak… of the millions of peoplethroughout this great land who stood up andengaged the apartheid system in struggle. Let uskeep our arms locked together so that we form asolid phalanx against racism… Let us ensure thatjustice triumphs without delay”

Below is the speech delivered by H.E. EbrahimRasoolTranscribed by AMIP News

It was 83 years ago that Mahatma Ghandimarched for 24 days in India to the seasideto extract salt from the sea. In the eyes ofthe British, this was illegal and he was even-tually arrested for it and all others who tooksalt from the sea because Britain wanted the

monopoly on salt. Mahatma Ghandi knew that it wasillegal but he certainly knew that it was moral. Thusbegan India’s march to independence through thebirth of Satyagraha.

Fifty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. marchedon Washington and shared his dream with the worldand with the United States. He dreamt of an Americafree of racism an segregation replaced by freedomand equality and he dreamed that his children will bejudged by the content of their character and not thecolor of their skin.Twenty-three years ago, Nelson Rolihlahla

Mandela took another step in his long walk to free-dom out of the prison gates of Victor Verster and ashe stepped there after 27 years he started a journeythat began to touch our lives in a completely differ-ent way and it is that step that we immortalize heretoday in Washington, DC.Each one’s journey dramatized simple truths that

what is legal isn’t always moral; that judgements arenot always equal to justice; that the resolve of thehuman spirit is more powerful than the might of theempire or the state. Today, in immortalizing that stepthat Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela took out of prison ashe raised his fist in triumph, it was the triumph ofhim – his spirit over his captors, the people’s triumphover eagle; the triumph of global solidarity overparochialism and selfishness and separateness.Today, we also reconnect the United States … in

the United States, Mahatma Ghandi’s statue just fur-ther down the road, Martin Luther King’s memorialon the Mall and today we add Nelson RolihlahlaMandela here outside the South African Embassy onMassachusetts Avenue. (Applause)We close a golden triangle of leaders – leaders

who do what is right, not always what is popular;who lead by example, not by dictat who unite peoplearound vision, not mobilize them around fears; whogive them hope and not despair at the most pressingtimes in the history of the world.Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is revered because henever saw himself as an individual but part of thegreat relay race of leaders and people who hand thebaton from one to the other adding their specialstrengths but never unmindful of what has been laidbefore them and unmindful of who will come afterthem. Nelson Mandela is revered never as a saintbecause he battled his soul and therefore he was ableto battle evil in the world. Nelson Mandela, despitewhat many people may say, is revered never becausehe performed miracles but asserted that what hap-pened in South Africa can happen anywhere else inthe world whether in the intractable problems of theMiddle East, what happened in South Africa can hap-pen there. In the ongoing troubles of North Africa, itcan happen there. In the challenges of Asia, it canhappen there. In the challenges of the Caribbean, ofCentral America, of southern America, even in theUnited States, what happened in South Africa isrelatable everywhere else in the world. (Applause)

As I look at who we have gathered here around thestatue I feel humbled to represent a country that pro-duced great leaders including Nelson RolihlahlaMandela in a country representing them in theUnited States of America where people like you fromall walks of life hold South Africa in a special placein your heart, admire our example, and see in us apartner for good. Whether it is a partner in the fightagainst HIV and AIDS through PEPFAR, whether itis a partner in the fight against poverty through theAfrican Growth and Opportunities Act, whether it isin the fight against youth unemployment through thenew programs like Young African Leaders Initiative,

fighting against the energy deficit in initia-tives such as Power Africa. This partnership is born out of the sacri-

fices made by people like yourself and manyothers who were arrested there where Madibastands today. Those in Boston who sat in inChase Manhattan Bank to get them to divest;those of the Long Shoreman workers whorefused to unload the ship for 11 days untilthat ship had to turn around; those authors inHollywood and all over who refused millionsof dollars to play in Sun City or in anywhereelse in South Africa; this tribute of NelsonMandela is as much a tribute to you becausewhen Nelson Mandela addressed Congresson the 24th of June, 1990, in the 101st JointSitting of Congress, this is what NelsonMandela said and I quote him ” .. the standyou took established that here in the UnitedStates we are friends, fighters against racismwho feel hurt because we are hurt, who seekour success because they too seek victory ofdemocracy over tyranny. I speak of the mil-lions of people throughout this great landwho stood up and engaged the ApartheidSystem in struggle. Let us keep our armslocked together so that we form a solid pha-lanx against racism. Let us ensure that justicetriumphs without delay.” That vision ofNelson Mandela must continue.Today we also celebrate the exorcism of

this building. We exorcise this building whereApartheid was justified for so many decades. We exorcise attempts (applause) we exorciseattempts from this building to buy construc-tive engagement and to invest in it. We exor-cise from this building where racism thatsought to legitimize itself from the segrega-tion that you too suffered. But in a true SouthAfrican spirit our exorcism is not destructive– it is a cleansing, it is a healing, it is theability to combine the best of the old with thebest of the new.The classical architecture of the old will

now come and join with the post modernarchitecture of the new that now holds ittogether, retaining the recognizable form butinfusing a profound new content into thisbuilding, strengthening old foundations butplacing at the service of a new set of inclu-sive aspirations. What you see here is therealization of a vision – a vision dreamt ofmy Ambassador Sonn, thought through byAmbassador Sheila Sisulu, brought to life …brought to life by Ambassador BarbaraMasekela, carried forward by AmbassadorNhlapo, implemented by Johnny Moloto.May this building and this statue always

symbolize the ultimate triumph of the humanspirit over adversity, the superiority of moral-ity over legality, the resilience of principledunity over technical difference, the victory ofsoft power over military might. May it sym-bolize our endeavors to make the world a bet-ter and more equal place. May it symbolize aworld that is always safe for difference. Thisis a tribute to Nelson Mandela. It is a tributeto the people of South Africa and it is a trib-ute to the millions of Americans that you rep-resent here today.

Thank you very much for being with us.

Carter Center Holds Mental Health ProgramFor Law Enforcement Officers In Liberia

Story courtesy of The Moultrie Observer

MOULTRIE — Chief Frank N. Lang Sr. of the MoultriePolice Department recently returned from a trip to the westAfrican nation of Liberia. His trip, in collaboration with theCarter Center Liberia Mental Health Program, sought toteach local law enforcement officers some of the techniquesused by the Moultrie Police Department to help people in amental health crisis get the help they need.

The Carter Center Mental Health Program invited theLiberian National Police and the National Police TrainingAcademy to a three-day workshop to evaluate the possibili-ty of adapting the Moultrie Police Department’s CrisisIntervention Team (CIT) model for Liberia. In addition toLang, with support from the Liberia-based Carter Centerstaff, the Center and American mental health team membersincluded Pat Strode from the Georgia affiliate of NationalAlliance on Mental Illness (NAMI); Michael Compton, apsychiatrist and research expert on CIT from GeorgeWashington University; Brandon Kohrt, a psychiatrist fromthe Duke Global Health Institute; and Elise Blasingame, anintern with The Carter Center in Liberia.

Fourteen police officers, including two corrections officers from dif-ferent parts of Liberia, were recruited to participate along with 17Carter Center-trained local mental health clinicians.

Based on research on stigma in Liberia, led by Kohrt, the CarterCenter Mental Health Liberia project sought to prepare law enforce-ment personnel to better respond to individuals with mental illnesswho come in contact with the law. Critical to the training is the col-laboration between law enforcement and mental health personnel.Officers participating in the program said that the workshop had apowerful impact on how they think about persons living with men-tal illness.

One patrol officer reported, “I used to think that witchcraft madepeople mentally ill. Now I know that’s not true.” Another officerreported, “I thought crazy people were just crazy, but they are our

brothers and sisters.” An officer participating in the programsaid, “I never even knew that mental health clinicians existedin Liberia.” His fellow officers echoed his observation and allwere happy to learn that they could now collaborate with theclinicians. Clinicians and law enforcement officers developedplans to communicate with one another for collaborative carefor persons living with mental illness.

Lang, the only law enforcement practitioner on the trip, wasable to provide his experience in utilizing CIT with theMoultrie Police Department.

“Mental health issues are a concern for more than justMoultrie; it is a global problem,” he said.

Department of StateWashington, DC

REMARKS

SECRETARY KERRY: Good morning, everybody. It’s myprivilege to welcome to Washington and to the StateDepartment His Excellency, the President of SomaliaHassan Sheikh Mohamud. Actually, I’m welcoming himback to Washington, and we have met previously and I’mvery pleased to be able to welcome him here.

The United States, obviously, has been engaged in helpingSomalia fight back against tribal terror and the challenges tothe cohesion of the state of Somalia. And the President andhis allies have really done an amazing job of fighting backand building a state structure. There’s work yet to be done inPuntland and Somaliland, and we encourage you to continuethe work of reaching out, of reconciliation and rebuildingthe democracy, and I know he’s committed to that.

Also, I want to thank the President for his rapid support ofthe Joint Statement on Syria. We appreciate that kind ofglobal recognition of what is at stake in Syria.

And finally, I’d just say that Somalia is working hard now tocreate its own ability to defend itself, to defend the state. Wewill continue to work. There is a United Nations missionthere. We are committed to both – to the independent abilityof the state of Somalia as well as the United Nations missionto help it in this transition. And we’re very happy to wel-come the President here to talk today about issues of mutualinterest.

Thank you, Mr. President.

PRESIDENT MOHAMUD: Thank you. Thank you,Secretary. And it’s – really, it was a pleasure and privilege tobe here again this year in the State Department and theUnited States. And we – as the Secretary said rightly we’reworking very hard together to establish the national institu-tions in all areas, particularly in security, where we areworking very hard with the UNOSOM forces, and ournational army is now taking shape and building up, ofcourse, with the support of the United States Governmentthat has always been with us. And this is a time we camehere to share the ideas, the way forward we have, and partic-ularly, the Vision 2016, where we want Somalia to go intothe poll stations and make a voting for the first time in 40

Secretary John Kerry Meets SomaliPresident Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

years – more than 40 years, even.

And as you rightly said, we have been engagingwith different stakeholders in Somalia. The federalgovernment has the leadership, the parliament, allvisiting different corners of Somalia to consult onthis event. And the product of that consultationwas the recent compact document signed inBrussels of the 16th of this month. I, myself, andthe Prime Minister, the Speaker of the House, theparliamentarians, key ministers have been travel-ing all over Somalia. Although the situation intraveling locally is very difficult, but even then, you have to sit with the people, listen them, sharewith them the plans that we are intending, and ask-ing them the type of Somalia they want to see inthe future.

So based on that, we have signed agreements withPuntland State, and recently agreement with theJubba regional administrations. And of course, wealso did the same with Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a inthe central region. So it takes some time. We haveour own differences, but we are in a better shapethan ever before now. King Mswati Picks His 15thWife….Hmmm!!

Swaziland’s King Mswati III (pictured) has chosen 18-year-old beauty pageantcontestant Sindiswa Dlamini for his 15th wife. File photo: Reuters

Durban – Swazi King Mswati III, 45, has chosen 18-year-old beauty pageant con-testant Sindiswa Dlamini as his 15th wife.

Dlamini was selected at the annual Reed Dance, where thousands of Swazi maid-ens dance bare-breasted for the king’s pleasure.

“I wish to confirm we have a new liphovela (royal fiancée),” announcedHlangabeza Mdluli, the overseer of the maidens.

Dlamini was presented to the king and the Swazi people at a Reed Dance in thesouthern provincial capital, Nhlangano, on Saturday. The main Reed Dance, atwhich Mswati has chosen previous wives, was held in central Swaziland lastmonth.

In recent years an additional Reed Dance has been held in the south to broadenthe king’s choice from his young female subjects.

Dlamini was a finalist in the Swaziland Miss Cultural Heritage beauty pageantthis year.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla, attended the dance in traditional attire andbrandished a fighting stick and cowhide shield when he reviewed a formation ofmaidens lined up for Mswati.

A hundred members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC)election monitoring team also attended. The election observers jostled to get theirpictures taken with the king.

Swaziland holds parliamentary elections on Friday, although its parliament doesnot have any power in sub-Saharan Africa’s only absolute monarchy.

“No doubt the king timed the Reed Dance and the public presentation of his newfiancée to entertain the SADC election monitors,” said Solomon Masango, a localyouth guidance counsellor. “He succeeded. Everyone who comes to Swazilandwants to see the king’s harem. They were thrilled to get their pictures taken withthe king.”

Mswati’s fiancée will be cloistered in one of the king’s many palaces until thewedding, to be held in private next year. – Foreign Service###

Chemist, Actor Become First BlackMembers Of Germany’s Parliament

About a half-million people of African origin live in country

By Frank Jordans, Associated Press

BERLIN — A chemist and an actor — both with fam-ily roots in Senegal — have become Germany’s firstblack federal legislators, according to official electionresults released Monday.

They were among 34 people with immigrant back-grounds to win seats in Sunday’s election, up from 21in the previous term, said the Migration MediaService, a group that provides figures on immigrationin Germany.

Although nearly one in five of Germany’s 80 millionpeople are immigrants, or the children or grandchil-dren of immigrants, relatively few have made it intothe federal legislature. Until now there were no blackmembers in parliament, despite more than 500,000people of recent African origin believed to be living inGermany.

“My election into the German parliament is of histori-cal importance,” said Karamba Diaby, 51, aSenegalese-born chemist who moved to the city ofHalle in 1986 after receiving a scholarship to study incommunist East Germany.

Diaby, who gained German citizenship in 2001, saidhis priority would be to promote equal opportunities ineducation. “Every child born in Germany should havethe chance to be successful in school regardless ofsocial background or the income of their parents,” hesaid.

The other black elected Sunday was Charles Huber,56, an actor born in Munich to a Senegalese father anda German mother. Huber is a member of Chancellor

Merkel’s party also now has its first Muslim law-maker in the Bundestag. Cemile Giousouf waselected in the western town of Hagen. The 35-year-old was born in Germany to Turkish immi-grant parents.

Several lawmakers of Turkish origin have previ-ously been elected to the lower house, but mostwere with the Social Democratic Party, whichDiaby represents, the environmentalist GreenParty or the Left Party.

“Measured against the 630 seats in parliament, about 5.4 per cent of deputies now come fromimmigrant families,” the Migration Media Servicenoted. “In the population as a whole their share ismore than three times as high, with about 19 percent.”

Remarks By President Obama Before Bilateral MeetingWaldorf Astoria HotelNew York, New York

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, I appreciate very much the opportuni-ty to meet once again with President Jonathan and his delegation.Obviously, Nigeria is one of the most powerful and fastest-growingcountries in the world. I think that’s testified by the fact thatPresident Jonathan is going to have the opportunity to ring the bellat the New York Stock Exchange. (Laughter.) I think it signifieshow important Nigeria is becoming in the global economy.

We have a very strong relationship between the United States andNigeria. It’s not just based on government-to-government relations, but also people-to-people relations. And we have an outstandingNigerian-American community here in the United States that ismaking incredible contributions in every field every single day.

President Jonathan has committed to building on the democraticprocess that we’ve seen in Nigeria in the past. The last election thatbrought President Jonathan to power was a hallmark on the conti-nent and in Nigeria in terms of free and fair elections. And I knowthat he is committed to making sure that the elections in 2015 movein that same fashion.

We’re going to be able to have an opportunity to talk about the

President Obama Meets Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathanissues of energy and power. Nigeria is a major energy pro-ducer, but it’s also an important energy consumer. And asmany of you know who were on the trip that I took to Africajust recently, we are really focused on how we can help tobring electricity and power generation throughout Africa —not just in the big cities but also in the rural areas, andNigeria is a potential partner in that process.

We want to develop the human capital throughout the conti-nent and in Nigeria. And that’s why I’m excited about theYoung African Leaders Initiative that is going to allow us tohave young African leaders from across the continent, including Nigeria, here in the United States where they caninteract with top leaders here in our universities, our busi-nesses, and that will further strengthen the ties between ourtwo countries.

And we’re going to have an opportunity to discuss some sig-nificant challenges on the security front in Nigeria. In thenorthern regions of Nigeria we’ve seen the emergence of oneof the most vicious terrorist organizations in the world —the Boko Haram. It presents an extraordinary security chal-lenge for the people of Nigeria, and we want to be coopera-tive in that process of building capacity inside Nigeria todeal with that terrorist threat, but doing so in a way that isconsistent with human rights. Because we strongly believethat the best way to undermine the agenda of those whowould do violence is to make sure that governments areresponsive to the needs of people and following rule of law.

On that topic let me just make one last point. I’ve had theopportunity to speak with President Kenyatta directly aboutthe terrible tragedy that’s happened in Nairobi, and we areproviding all the cooperation that we can as we deal with asituation that has captivated the world.

I want to express personally my condolences to not onlyPresident Kenyatta, who lost some family members in theattack, but to the Kenyan people. We stand with themagainst this terrible outrage that’s occurred. We will providethem with whatever law enforcement support that is neces-sary. And we are confident that Kenya, which has been a pil-lar of stability in Eastern Africa, will rebuild.

But this I think underscores the degree to which all of us asan international community have to stand against the kind ofsenseless violence that these kinds of groups represent. And

the United States will continue to work with the entire con-tinent of Africa and around the world to make sure that weare dismantling these networks of destruction.

Wedding rings through different stages in his-tory have been worn on different fingers, including the thumb, and on both the left andright hands.

According to a tradition believed to have beenderived from the Romans, the wedding ring isworn on the left hand ring finger because therewas thought to be a vein in the finger, referredto as the ‘Vena Amoris’ or the ‘Vein of Love’said to be directly connected to the heart. However, scientists have shown this is actuallyfalse. Despite this, this myth still remainsregarded by many (hopeless romantics) as thenumber one reason rings are worn on thefourth finger.

Another theory thought to be behind the ringbeing placed on the left hand by Christiansseems a little more plausible. Early Christianmarriages had a ritual to wear the wedding ringin the third finger. As the priest recited duringthe binding ,”In the name of the Father, theSon and the Holy Spirit”, he would take thering and touch the thumb, the index finger, andthe middle finger; then, while uttering“Amen”, he would place the ring on the ringfinger, which sealed the marriage.

A more practically based theory is that the softmetal (traditionally gold for wedding rings) isless worn or injured on the finger of the lefthand, due to most of the world being righthanded. Further, the fourth finger on the lefthand is probably the second to the least usedfinger on a person’s hands outside of pinkies.

Pinkies being small, making a small ring withlittle surface area to decorate, perhaps motivat-ed people to then place it on the next least usedfinger, namely the fourth finger on the lefthand, which is roughly the size of the otherfingers.

Wedding rings today are a billion dollar senti-ment of love, but no one can really say for surewhen this age old tradition actually started.

Some believe that the oldest recordedexchange of wedding rings comes from ancientEgypt, about 4800 years ago. Sedges, rushesand reeds, growing alongside the well-knownpapyrus were twisted and braided into rings forfingers an other decorative ornaments worn bythe women in those days.

The circle was the symbol of eternity, with nobeginning or end, not only to the Egyptians, but many other ancient cultures. The hole inthe center of the ring also had significance. Itwasn’t just considered a space, but rather agateway, or door; leading to things and eventsboth known and unknown. To give a woman aring signifies never-ending and immortal love.

The materials these rings were made of didn’tlast very long and soon were substituted withrings made of leather, bone or ivory. The more

Why Wedding Rings Are Worn OnThe 4th Finger Of The Left Hand

expensive the material, the more loveshown to the receiver; the value of the ringalso demonstrated the wealth of the giver.

The Roman’s also eventually adopted thistradition but with their own twist. Ratherthan offering a ring to a woman as a sym-bol of love, they awarded them as a symbolof ownership. Roman men would “claim”their woman with the giving of a ring.Roman betrothal rings were later made ofiron and called “Anulus Pronubus.” Theysymbolized strength and permanence. It isalso said that the Romans were the first toengrave their rings.

It was not until about 860 that theChristians used the ring in marriage cere-monies; even then, it was not the simpleplain band as we know it. It usually washighly decorated with engraved doves, lyres, or two linked hands.

The Church discouraged such rings as ‘hea-thenish’ and, around the 13th century, wed-ding and betrothal rings were considerablysimplified, and given a more spiritual lookwhich was very aptly expressed by aBishop when he dubbed it a “symbol of theunion of hearts.”

10 Etiquette Tips Men Should KnowWhat ever happened to good old-fashioned man-ners? Not many men follow the simplest rules thesedays and consequently, it shows in how they behave.

Aside from the momentary fashionable trends thatseem to grip society every half generation, good eti-quette never goes out of style. Whether it is tippingappropriately, or knowing where to place the forks, here are 10 most important tips men can use:

1. Restaurants - Whenever dining out (especially ina formal setting), be sure to allow your female part-ner to be seated first. You can control this situationby pulling out a chair for her and seating yourselfafterwards. For those of you who dare to be chival-rous -- it is common practice to stand when awoman gets up to leave the table.

2. Table Manners - When sitting at a table (either ina restaurant or at home), your elbows should neverrest on the eating surface. Elbows on the table areacceptable only between meal courses, or inextremely informal settings like bars or pubs.

3. Addressing Women - Did you know that there is acorrect and incorrect way to address a woman, bothverbally and in writing? It all depends on her ageand marital status.

You should speak and write "Mrs." when addressingmarried woman. For any woman who is unmarried,or if you are not sure about her marital status - usethe term "Ms." For girls and teens under the age of17 years, you should use "Miss".

4. Hats and Caps - Never enter a building with yourhat

5. Flowers - Unless you mean to say -- "I love youmy dear friend", something other than red or pinkroses should be given to female acquaintances.Roses are a symbol of love, romantic interest, or"respectful love" -- as in situations when givingroses to a mother on Mother's Day.

For occasions when a female is not a love interest(i.e. birthdays, graduations, promotions, or newfriendships) -- choose from a variety of "friendlyflowers" like Lilies, Sunflowers, Daisies,Chrysanthemums, Bamboo, or Irises.

6. Personal Property - If Possible, men shouldrefrain from touching, moving, or interfering withone's personal property. For example, you shouldnever touch and move an unknown woman's purse --even if it is in your way. You should also avoidtouching clothes, vehicles, equipment, or any per-sonal items belonging to another.

The only exceptions are returning lost or misplaceditems to their rightful owners, or if an emergencycalls for your intervention. More strict rules apply tohome properties such as mailboxes. Not only isopening someone's mailbox bad etiquette -- it is alsoillegal.

7. Shaving - Men do not like to shave, but it is anecessity in certain situations. When attending suchevents as weddings, formal gatherings, reunions, business meetings, job interviews, etc. - your faceshould be stubble free. If you are venturing into anunfamiliar territory, it is best to leave that shadowy

look at home. The only exceptions here arewell-trimmed beards, moustaches, or goat-ees.

8. Coughing and Sneezing - You wereprobably told as a child: "Cover yourmouth when you cough!" This is still goodpractice, but you should go one step fur-ther.

If you have a handkerchief or some tissuenearby, try sneezing or coughing directlyinto it and when finished -- throw it away.Serious respiratory illnesses like influenza, whooping cough, and Severe AcuteRespiratory Syndrome (SARS) are spreadthrough airborne germs, and germs on yourhands.

If no tissue is available, sneeze or coughinto your sleeve. This helps keep germs outof the air and off your hands.

9. Invitations - Believe it or not, there are afew occasions when you should never turndown an invite or request for attendance. Two such events are requests for funeralassistance and honoree events. If you areasked to act as a pallbearer at a funeral orif a banquet or dinner is being held in yourhonor -- you should make every attempt toattend.

10. What to Wear - Knowing what to wearand when to wear it is important if youwant to save your reputation. There is adifference in casual, business casual, andprofessional dress. In reality, it all dependson the event. If attending a day wedding, school play, orluncheon - a button-down with slacks is theway to go. A formal wedding, classreunion, job interview, or business meetingall require a button-down, tie, and slacks.Jackets and/or blazers are necessary whenpresenting, facilitating formal meetings, orwhen in a place of recognition.

Shorts of any length and t-shirts should notbe worn -- even if an event is labeled as"casual". The only obvious exceptions areoutdoor events such as barbecues, pool par-ties, and family reunions.

There you go. Those are 10 great etiquettetips that should keep you from making atotal fool out of yourself. Use at least fiveof them, and it is likely that someone willlabel you as a "true gentleman".

Be Assured of God’s Promises

My inspiration for this essay comesfrom two songs. One is an oldfavorite hymn for many, “Blessed

Assurance” and the other is a more recentbut limited Christian song in Akan, by oneMargaret Mensah, “Ebeba Mu”, translated“it will happen or it will come to pass”.The idea here is that whatever God haspromised or prophesied about you willcome to pass. So fret not, but patiently andfaithfully await the fulfillment of His prom-ises. I recall that when I first heard the song

“Ebeba Mu” by Margaret Mensah, I could-n’t help but to play it continuously. Thesong ministered to me so much so that eachtime the track ended, I would press thereplay button just to hear the song oncemore. I did it so many times without tiringand I always felt the same impact of thelyrics, if not more. Not only did the songminister to me, but it also encouraged andstrengthened me when I listened to it. Then, there is “Blessed Assurance”, a

song I am quite familiar with, having beenraised on a lot of hymns. However, I neverreally thought deeply about the lyrics until aweek ago when the song came to me sever-al times. I found myself singing it in wor-ship and praise and much like the responseI had to Mensah’s song, I was encouragedand strengthened, more importantly, I wasreassured. I felt and believed that despitehow long the Lord was taking to answersome petitions I had put before Him, thesong was accurate. I was reminded thenand there that if He had done it for mebefore and done it so beautifully, He woulddo it again. Further, I was assured thatindeed, Jesus is mine and that if He is mine, then as John 14:14 says, if I ask anything inHis name, He will do it. Two days after completing an essay for

publication, I got the idea of writing on thistopic. My immediate response to myselfwas: “God, you didn’t wait at all in givingme a subject this time.” I usually do nothave topics floating about in my mind rightafter I finish an essay. Usually, I have tospend the next couple of weeks after sub-mitting an essay, praying and ponderingabout what God would want me to sharenext. But God does what He wants to dowhen He wants to do it, and sensing thatthis topic was coming from Him, I took pento paper to begin writing down the thoughtsflowing in my mind, so that I wouldn’t lose

them, for I knew God had something to sharewith someone. I hope reading it will provideyou with the entire message that God wantedto impart to you. So here I am writing on thesubject burning in me today. Be assured.

We all know that life is a journeymarked with many bumps and a lot of waitingand the trying of our patience. But I am surethat Christians would confess readily that lifecertainly is much better lived when one is aChristian, because we have an advocate, aFather, a lover of our souls, who is alwaysthere for us. What is great about Christianityis that it is filled with the promises of God. However, what might not be so wonderful

for us is that most of these promises requirethat we wait until we receive them.Sometimes, we wait so much that we begin todoubt God, especially when these promises arenot forthcoming and it is rather hardship afterhardship or delay after delay of their fruitionthat we face. One might argue that often, things take a turn for the worse when we soreadily anticipate the fulfillment of our promis-es. Consequently, we doubt and even give upon such promises and God’s words. We thenbecome saddened and even bitter that God hasforgotten us. But the truth is that He never for-got us and He is yet poised to fulfill His wordsand make it happen for us. In the book of Habakkuk, Habakkuk the

prophet asks of God “How long O Lord, will Icall for help, and You will not hear? I cry toYou, ‘Violence!’ Yet You do not save” (Hab.1:1). Habakkuk goes on to cry unto Godabout his plight. But God answers him saying,“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; Ithastens toward the goal and it will not fail.Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certain-ly come, it will not delay” (Hab. 2:3). Here,God assures His prophet that whatever He Godhas promised to do or intends to do will cometo pass, despite the outward condition ofthings. It does not matter that it appears it istaking a long time. What we may consider asdelay is only part of God’s timing and plan-ning. He has it all ordered and He knows thebest time to fulfill His word. We might thinkthat the fulfillment of the vision or promise isdelayed, but according to His own timing, Godstates emphatically that “it will not delay” andmore importantly, “it will certainly come”. The songs I discussed earlier confirm this

Biblical passage and also substantiate a lot ofactual experiences of God’s children. Let’sshare a few examples of God being true to hispromises, so that we can rest assured that whenHe tells us He will do something for us or inour lives, He will surely do it in spite of whatwe think and certainly, despite how Satan, andeven others, will attempt to hinder the fulfill-ment of the promise. The story of Joseph is a prime example of

God’s promises coming to pass in His child’slife. Joseph, one of the two sons of the oncebarren Rachel, was beloved by his father Jacoband God. Joseph was so beloved that hisbrothers were jealous of him and even hatedhim to the point where they wanted to murderhim. As a young boy, God revealed Joseph’sfuture to him, that he would be greater than his

brothers and even his parents. To hear suchprophesies about his future made his brotherseven more intent on killing him. To get rid ofhim and in an attempt to put an end to his dreamsand God’s prophesies for Joseph’s life, his broth-ers sold him into slavery. The point is that evenas a slave, God’s intentions for Joseph could notbe suppressed and later, when falsely accused ofattempted rape and imprisoned, God still deliv-ered Joseph from this devastating situation andhonored him as the second most powerful personin all of Egypt. Furthermore, when Israel wasstruck with famine and Joseph’s brothers had torun to Egypt for sustenance, Joseph, the brotherthey thought they had gotten rid off, was the per-son to whom they had to submit for their survival. The Lord’s promise on Joseph’s life came to pass.Despite how much others positioned themselvesagainst him and God’s word on his life, it is whatGod had said that came to be.Another example of the fulfillment of God’s

promise on His children’s lives is taken from thestory of Abraham and Sarah. The Lord promisedAbraham that He would make a mighty nation ofhim, yet for many decades, Abraham and Sarahwere unable to bear children. Sarah passed herprime and no longer had hope. She even decidedto take matters into her own hands and gave hermaid to mate with her husband so that God’spromise for him will happen. But this act didn’tfulfill God’s prophesy and only brought problemsinto the couple’s life. Finally, when she was 90years old, God’s promise for Abraham and Sarahwas fulfilled with their son Isaac. Who wouldhave thought that these old people would con-ceive and bear a child, when medical science isagainst it? But then again, who can stand againstthe promises of God? While others were procre-ating many children to continue their legacy,Abraham and Sarah gave birth to only one child,Isaac. And Isaac also fathered only two children,Jacob and Esau. And through one child, Jacob, the nation of Israel was established. Again, whatGod had promised in His servant’s life surelycame to pass and even today, we see the millionsof descendents of Abraham, a fulfillment of God’spromise. Again, when God’s promise is on your life, it

does not matter what anyone will do in an attemptto hinder it. The God of Abraham and Joseph isthere to see to it that His word upon your life willbe fulfilled. Take King David, for instance. When God became displeased with King Saul, Heinstructed the Prophet Samuel to anoint David, for he would be king of Israel. David was thusanointed at the age of 25 to become the futureking of Israel. But it didn’t happen overnight. What age did he finally become king? Davidcame to the throne of Judah at age 30 and of allof Israel at 37! What was the delay? King Saulwas still alive and although God no longer con-sidered him as the king, because he had dis-pleased Him, Saul nevertheless still ruled thekingdom. What’s more, because he was jealousof David, Saul attempted to kill him numeroustimes. As a result, David was always on the run, living in caves, and depending on God to make italive just one more day. The promise on David’slife as king was delayed for many years, butGod’s word came to be.To demonstrate that these examples are not just

of old, but that they are still everydayoccurrences, I will briefly share the follow-ing. I know a man to whom God promisedcareer and financial success. This man hadadvanced degrees, but at the time that theLord gave him this revelation, he was outof a job and would not be hired by anyone.Even positions for which he was overquali-fied were not to be granted to him. Everydoor was shut in his face and he remainedunemployed for years. How does one holdon to a revelation of prosperity and successwhen all avenues to that path are closed offto him? One could only look to God andfiercely hold on to His word, and that iswhat this man did. And because God is sofaithful, in His own appointed time, Herewarded this man with more than he couldhave wished for or dreamed of.Furthermore, God did it in a way that madethe man know that it was indeed God’s ownprovidential hand that had led him there. When you consider the stories of Josephand King David, and the little you’velearned about this man, you must agree thatGod is faithful to His word. Finally, I know a couple who, having

married for nearly ten years, are now expe-riencing the joys of being blessed with achild. This couple had hopes that theywould begin raising a family right away, butwho knew that the promise of childbearingwould be delayed for so long. One canonly imagine what they suffered when alltheir married friends and family membersof childbearing age readily conceived andbore children, only to watch and attend out-doorings and baby dedications repeatedlyand be reminded month after month andyear after year the pain of their unmetdesire and God’s promise. I know thatthere are many out there who know thiscouple’s pain. I personally know it. Butthe God of Joseph, Abraham and Sarah is afaithful and truthful God and when Hepromises, He delivers. When you call uponHim, He answers. This wonderful Godrecently honored this couple with a healthybaby at an age when childbearing is a chal-lenge. Thus, once again, we are encouragedthat God’s word upon our lives is true andwill indeed become a reality. The Lord has spoken many promises

upon the lives of His children. Most ofthese promises are general; they are for allHis children and recorded in the Bible. Then there are the specific promises thatGod has made to individual people. Whenwe have doubts about these promises, allwe need to do is to look at the many exam-ples we have in His word to confirm Hisfaithfulness. When we do this, we willaffirm that whatever He has said regardingus will come to pass.

Shortage Of Primary Care Doctors InD.C., New Report Finds

By Lena H. Sun, Published: September 25 E-mail thewriter

Of the more than 8,000 physicians licensed to work inthe nation’s capital, only 453 of them are primary-caredoctors who spend more than 20 hours a week seeingpatients, according to a report released Wednesday bythe D.C. Board of Medicine.

The number of actively practicing primary-care doctorscomes from a survey conducted when doctors renewedtheir licenses last year. It puts a number on a complaintthat patients and health-care providers have long had:It’s hard to find a doctor in Washington.

Starting Oct. 1, nearly 50 million Americans who lackmedical insurance will have their first chance to sign upfor coverage under the new system that has come to beknown as Obamacare.Individual stories will define health plan’s fate

Sarah Kliff, Sandhya Somashekhar, Lena H. Sun andKaren Tumulty SEP 25

Health-care experts have long bemoaned the loomingshortage of physicians, particularly in primary care.Primary-care doctors will be especially important as acritical phase of President Obama’s health-care law getsunderway Tuesday. That’s when Americans who lackmedical insurance have their first chance to sign up forcoverage under the new health insurance marketplacesthat are supposed to open for business.

“It’s likely that will put the squeeze on, and being able tosee a primary-care doctor is going to get worse,” saidJanis Orlowski, head of the board.

The District has among the fewest uninsured residents ofany place in the country: An estimated 42,000 people, or7 percent of the District’s population, are uninsured.

Officials running the District’s new health insurancemarketplace, or exchange, are hoping that another groupof people, an estimated 25,000 people who buy insur-ance on their own rather than getting it from employers, might also use the exchange to find cheaper coverage.

The number of actively practicing primary-care doctorsrefers to those who practice internal medicine, familymedicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. ButWednesday’s figure is considerably lower than the 918actively practicing primary-care physicians reported in2010 by the board, when it conducted its first survey ofthe physician workforce in the nation’s capital.

Orlowski said the most recent survey is more accuratebecause it focuses on physicians who spend more than20 hours caring for patients. The earlier questionnairemay also have counted specialists as primary-care doc-tors, she said.In general, the District and neighboring Maryland proba-

bly have more physicians per capita than elsewherein the nation, health-care policy experts said. Theconcern has less to do with how many doctors thereare than where they are.

Like in the previous board report, the latest surveyfound that actively practicing primary-care doctorsare clustered in wards 1, 2, 3 and 5, near the city’shospitals. But many of the District’s uninsured pop-ulation live in wards 4 and 7, where there are fewsuch physicians.

“If all the physicians are located in Northwest, andonly a tiny population is in Southeast or Northeast, then you’ve got access problems,” said Atul Grover, chief public policy officer for the AmericanAssociation of Medical Colleges. Maps of theDistrict show very few physician offices in wards 7and 8.

Even if uninsured residents in those wards sign upfor new health insurance coverage, “they’re going tohave access issues even if you give them an insur-ance card,” Grover said.

The survey also found that about 25 percent of the4,790 responding physicians said they thought thatthe health-care law will have a positive effect onhealth care in the District.

Nearly all said the main reason would be that imple-mentation of the law would increase access to care.

The survey also spotted some encouraging signs.Among the 453 actively practicing primary-caredoctors, 85 percent were accepting new patients. There was also no evidence that doctors were plan-ning to leave the city for Maryland or Virginia.

To conduct the survey, the Board of Medicine sentvoluntary questionnaires to 8,466 physicians whorenewed their licenses last year. About 56 percent— or 4,790 actively licensed doctors — responded.Of those, 1,354 identified themselves as primary-care doctors and 3,436 said they were specialists.

Charles Taylor Looses Appeal

A UN-backed special court in The Hague has rejected an appeal against warcrimes convictions by lawyers representing former Liberian President CharlesTaylor.

It ruled that his convictions had been proved beyond doubt.

Taylor appeared impassive in court as the judge upheld his convictions and 50-year sentence.

He was sentenced in May 2012 for aiding rebels who committed atrocities inSierra Leone during its civil war.

His lawyers had argued that there were legal errors during his trial.

Taylor, 65, was found to have supplied weapons to the Revolutionary UnitedFront rebels in exchange for a constant flow of so-called blood diamonds.

He was found guilty at his trial of 11 crimes including terrorism, rape, murder andthe use of child soldiers by rebel groups in neighbouring Sierra Leone during thevicious civil war of 1991-2002.

Judge Richard Lussick said at his trial that they were "some of the most heinouscrimes in human history".

Taylor has always insisted he is innocent and his only contact with the rebels wasto urge them to stop fighting.

He became the first former head of state convicted by an international war crimescourt since World War II.

'Campaign of terror'"The appeals chamber... affirms the sentence of 50 years in prison and orders thatthe sentence be imposed immediately," Judge George King told the Special Courtfor Sierra Leone (SCSL) on Thursday.

The BBC's Chris Morris in The Hague says the court's decision has been closelywatched because the guilty verdict was hailed as a landmark, proving that evenpeople at the highest level of power can be held to account.

In its ruling, the special court said that Mr Taylor's personal conduct had a "signif-icant effect on the commission of crimes in Sierra Leone".

It said that he unleashed a campaign of terror against the Sierra Leonean opposi-tion "using terror as its modus operandi".

"The Appeals Chamber is of the opinion that the sentence imposed by the trialchamber is fair in the light of the totality of the crimes committed," Judge Kingsaid.

He said that Taylor's lawyers had "failed to demonstrate any errors in the trialchamber's reasoning."

Correspondents say that Taylor is now expected immediately to serve his sentencein a foreign jail. The UK has offered to accept him at a British prison - other pos-sible destinations include Sweden or Rwanda.

The Ghana Tourist Coach Radio is the brainchild of Kwame Boakye -Danquah(Toziah) . He mooted the idea years ago after a personal experience years ago whilst working as an agent with anInsurance company. As he listened to people make derogatory remarks about Africa he was provoked to go online and showed some goods pictures about Ghana his home country to the people. When they saw the pictures it changed their perception of Ghana and Africa as a whole. Kwame realized people were not better informed about Ghana as such he became an ambassador educatingpeople about the other side of Ghana. He therefore formed a group on Facebook which was the first of its kind. He got the following of personalities like Professor Kwasi Yankah. The group nowhas grown to about 17,000 members. It is therefore out of this that the idea of setting up a radio station that would promote Ghana and its tourism potential came into being. Book Launch Marks Rev. Alexander AduGyamfi’s Wonderful Legacy And Dream

An array of Ministers and Community leaders joined Rev. Alexander Adu Gyamfi to cele-brate his new book. It reflects on Rev. Alexander Adu Gyamfi’s life time experiences. Itwas one of the most successful book launches in the community’s history. It was wellattended with over Six hundred people in attendance.

Bishop Hansel Adjei Frimpong who led the launching of the book, in his sermon said, theapostle Paul tells us in the bible to study the word to empower ourselves. He urged every-one to buy the book since it was based on the word of God and life experience of the ser-vant of God.

In his remarks, Rev. Alexander Adu Gyamfi thanked God for making this day a reality.“There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, thatshall stand.” It is the Lord’s pre-determined counsel that has made it all possible.Today marks the official beginning of a long-awaited chapter in my life and by the graceof God; I join the ranks of motivational authors as I launch the first of many books thatthe Lord has laid on my heart to write for the community, for the society, for humanityand for posterity. Today, I begin a series of publications intended, among other objectives,to liberate minds, uplift spirits, soothe pain, induce hope and bring relief.

This maiden book is a dream-come-true. Incidentally, the book itself is about dreams. Iam not talking about the dreams people have when they sleep and see others chasingthem. Rather, I am talking about the kind of dream in which you chase your destiny. I amtalking about goals, aspirations and ambitions in life and how to fulfill them. That is whatthis book is all about.I do not know what your dream is, but for me personally, writing books has always beenmy ambition. However, for some reasons best known to God, I never wrote a book untilnow. But the good news about this pioneering effort, though a bit late in coming, is that itconfirms what I share with readers in the book, and that is: You can get it if you reallywant it; you can do whatever you aspire to do if you try hard enough; you can fulfill yourdream if you take the necessary steps towards it. You may be delayed by circumstancesbut you cannot be denied.

A casual glance around is enough to reveal that many have dreams that are either dying orare already dead; many people are hurting because of shattered dreams; many have noclue about what to do in the circumstances; many have already given up on hope thinkingall is lost, and many people do not seem to have any dream at all. These are the issues thatmotivated me to seek answers and put them together in a book.

In his closing remarks, he thanked his associate pastors, Eric Forson, RichmondOfosuhene, Edwin Osei-Tutu, George Akwada, Rev and Mrs Ampah Johnson, BishopKwaku Asante, Richard Amoah, Media Director Gariel Odame and the Christian Journalfor their support.

Can You Pronounce This Name?

A Hawaiian woman has been left outraged after state officials asked her to cut down her 36-letter surname – because it wouldn’t fit on the ID card.

Furious Janice Lokelani Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele claims the state has been ‘dis-respectful’ towards her Hawaiian heritage after being reissued an ID card with only 35 lettersin her surname.

Her name is so long that the driving licence in question does not even include her first nameand middle names at all.

Mrs Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele, who has had to carry two ID cards for the past 20years, said that the action of missing off one letter was ‘disrespectful of the Hawaiian people’.

‘The county has never accommodated my name on my driver’s license,’ she told Honolulutelevision station KHON2.

She said the new ID has created a number of problems for her, including not being able totravel and being questioned by police during traffic.

’He looked at it and he goes, “Well, where is your first name?” And I said, “Don’t blame me.This is your department, this is the county”.’

Mrs Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele said that she has been told by the country to takeher maiden name or shorten her last name. But she wants to keep the name as a tribute to herlate husband.

After the TV station that originally reported the story pressured the local Department ofTransport on the issue, officials said they will extend ID cards to a 40-character limit.

Nigeria: Nollywood Stars Turned Pastors

Although, many have criticised their decisions to embraceChrist, blaming such decisions principally on the turn of eventsin their lives, it is not out of place today to come across celebri-ties who have become preachers of the Word.

From Eucheria Anunobi to Zack Orji, Ndidi Obi, Pat Attah,Ernest Azuzu and many others, it has been a steady influx offire-brand celebrity Pastors into the Vineyard of God. But thequestion on the lips of everyone is whether these celebritieshave found true happiness after all, and if they do, how muchhas the pulpit paid off, in place of dumping their flourishingcareers in acting for the work of God. Like the Biblical saying,“When we come to the Word of God and we pray over HisWord, when His Word shines on us, we are exposed and emptiedof any other thing.”

Zack Orji

Ex-President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria,AGN, Zack Orji canbe described as “a gentleman without blemish.” This, no doubtinformed his decision to become a worker in the Vineyard ofGod. Zack Orji ordained a full-time evangelist by Bishop EmmaIsong of Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI).

He is said to have dedicated his time to preaching the gospel ofgood tidings across the nations of the world. The veteran actorhas been spotted in such cities as Abuja, Nasarawa and Makurdiwhere he is engaged in various evangelical activities. But this, however, has not stopped him from storming the celebrity hang-out, in Surulere to fraternize with his friends and colleagues inthe movie industry.

Eucharia Anunobi

In fact, Eucheria Anunobi’s conversion was the most talked aboutconversion to Christ in recent times. The actress who ruled thescreen in the early 90s with her role in the film “Glamour Girls”has been trailed with many controversies and scandals, most ofwhich bothered on her relationships and crashed marriage. Butafter many years of being in the news for the wrong reasons,Eucheria shocked her fans when she announced she had givenher life to Christ. Few months after the announcement, UK wasordained at the Fresh Oil Ministry, Egbeda, Lagos, as an evangel-ist.

Interestingly, with her ordination which was performed by PastorPsalm Okpe, Eucharia willed the power to preach as a pastor andshe’s doing so, without looking back. Those in the know said, she already counsels youths in the church and travels at randomto spread the gospel of salvation.

This, however, has not taken away some of the traits that madeher fans term her “a bad girl” before her transformation. She isstill flashy and daring. Just weeks after the ordination, Eucheriabought a brand new BMW X5. Severally, she has refuted reportsthat she has abandoned her acting career for the work of God.Instead, she pointed out that she would be choosier in acceptingroles in movies.

Pat Attah

Pat Attah? That play boy actor who broke the hearts of many‘Nollywood babes’ during his time, and left as soon as the ova-tion was loud. The once-upon-a-dreadlock-turned clean cut actor,is currently based in Hamburg, Germany where he’s winningsouls for Christ. Those in the know said, he does not preach inchurches, rather he is now very much a born-again.

Many knew him before he left the shores of the country as onewho was close to the ladies and in love with the bottle. Today, reading his posts online, one would acknowledge the fact that Patis a new creature in Christ. He often uses social network sitesincluding Facebook to deliver his sermon and messages to thosewho care to read them. But what we don’t know is how he hasbeen faring over there.

Liz Benson

Elizabeth Benson, popularly known asLiz Benson used to be the toast of manylovers of Nigerian films and TV series. Her journey into stardom began when sheappeared on the set of the popular televi-sion soap opera, Fortunes, in 1993. LizBenson played the part of Mrs. AgnesJohnson in the soap, which ran for abouttwo years on the NTA. After that, sheacted in various TV series and many

movies.

In 1994, her role in Glamour Girls, a very successful homevideo that focused on prostitution, literally changed her for-tunes. The movie shot her into prominence and soon, shebecame a subject of many scandals and controversies, forcingher to disappear from teh scene, in order to rebrand herself. But as luck would have it, she got married to her Bishop GreatEmeya husband in 2009, at the Rainbow Christian Assemblyin Warri, Delta State. She has since been ordained an evangel-ist in the church. Presently, she runs the church with her hus-band.

Charles Okafor

Charles Okafor who staged a comeback to Nollywood recentlyin Uche Jombo’s film, “Misplaced” after disappearing fromthe radar is also one of the actors that are winning souls forChrist. He used to act alongside Saint Obi, Zack Orji andRichard Mofe Damijo and has made a name for himself beforedisappearing from the scene.

The UNIPORT trained actor who starred in such films asForest of Promises, Ocean Deep, Across the River, BetweenLove, Boiling Point, and Executive Connection, workedbriefly with the Security and Exchange Commission, beforeresigning to go into full time acting. Recently, he was spottedat a filling station around Isolo area of Lagos, and from theway, he looked, the handsome actor has surely given up thethings of this world.

Okey OgunjioforOkechukwuOgunjiofor isknown to be thefounder ofNollywood. He pro-duced the film,Living in Bondagewhich gave birth toNollywood. Withthe explosion ofthis movie in 1992,Nollywood prides

itself today as second to the largest movie industry in theworld after 20 years of its existence. But this man who startedthis innovation engage himself more in other aspects of movieproduction. He hardly features in movies but appears on spe-cial arrangement. He has since reconciled himself with hismaker. Today, he is not only a preacher of teh Word, he is alsoHouse of God. He is also a motivational speaker and unknownto many, Paullo as he’s fondly called by his fans is an authorof many Christian literature .

He was only eight years old and in ClassTwo when he tragically lost his father in theheat of the 1979 military uprising in Ghana. However, growing up without a father'slove and care did not deter him fromachieving his dreams. With the support of his mother and otherfamily members, he went through all thestruggles to complete his primary and sec-ondary education through to university andLaw School.

Today, Felix Nii Lantei Odartey-Wellingtonis a lawyer and has also obtained a doctor-ate degree in Communications.

Recalling the past, Dr Odartey-Wellingtondescribed how he lost his father, MajorGeneral Neville Alexander Odartey-Wellington, a former Army Commander ofthe Ghana Armed Forces, who died inaction during the June 4, 1979 uprising inGhana.

"Though I was very young, I still vividlyrecall the staccato sounds of gunfire, theevacuation of my family from our BurmaCamp residence and from one safe house toanother, amidst steady rainfall and a feelingof dread all around," he related.

"Intermittently, I heard my father on radioasking for calm and for the revolting troopsto lay down their arms," he added.

Asked how the news of his father's deathwas broken to him during the coup d'etat,he said, "The entire family heard itannounced on Radio Ghana and that wasthe beginning of a journey into theunknown."

Touching on his education, he said his mumwas defiant and resilient and knew educa-tion was the only way out for him and hissiblings and, therefore, did her best toensure that they were all educated.

"Interestingly, because of the incident lead-ing to the loss of my father, I was preventedfrom enrolling in some government schoolsat the primary level," he said.

Dr Odartey-Wellington, an ODADEE, hadhis GCE Ordinary and Advanced levels at

the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School(PRESEC), Legon. According to him,PRESEC was cool, "but strangely enough Inever ended up in the sciences, for whichPRESEC is renowned".

He added that he really benefited from guid-ance from his sisters and brother becausethey encouraged him to be himself and pur-sue an Arts programme rather than the sci-ences which was more encouraged atPRESEC.

"I really loved pranks and ‘jama’. Out ofpositive influences, I did a little athletics toobecause a lot of my buddies were into athlet-ics," he said.

He would not elaborate on the “pranks"because "some of them border on juveniledelinquency", he joked.

Dr Odartey-Wellington, who had many inter-esting stories to share, said initially he hadbeen interested in a military career right afterSixth Form, but, again, because of his past, that was not to be.

"I was regarded as a security risk," he said, laughing.

He ended up at the University of Ghana, where he majored in Political Science andLaw, following which he completed his pro-fessional law training at the Ghana School ofLaw.

According to him, because of the tragedysurrounding his father's death, he swore toabstain from politics while at the university. In his first year, there was a demonstration inwhich he refused to participate.

“But, guess what, coincidentally when thepolice invaded the campus, they attacked usat Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby's pub, thencalled Lifeline, at the Akuafo Hall. I thenrealised trouble would find you even if yousit on the fence and that brought me into stu-dent politics. I saw politics as a force forgood and I ended up as the elected Secretaryof the National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) under the Presidency of HarunaIddrisu in 1996. Interestingly, my family, including my late mother, was behind mypolitical career 100 per cent," he said.

He disclosed that after Law School, heworked with Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co.But, then, he had been stung by the mediabug after being part of the pioneering staff ofRadio Univers in Legon.

"Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah (current SportsMinister) was then the StudentsRepresentative Council President.

His administration had brought the idea of aradio station for the university into fruitionand he came to my home at Madina and rus-

Dr Felix Odartey-Wellington — He rose above his circumstances

tled me from my afternoon nap to joina few others to begin broadcasting forthe station, which was Ghana's firstindependent radio station. I had zeroexperience in broadcasting, though Ihad always dreamed of being a broad-caster," he recalled.

Radio Univers led to career stints atChoice FM and GTV."I loved working in the media but themedia was the mistress and Law wasthe wife, so I decided to pursue gradu-ate studies in Communications to regu-larise my media relationship," he said, laughing.

After obtaining his master’s degree inMedia Studies from the ConcordiaUniversity in Montreal, Canada, hecredits a former Ghana HighCommissioner to Canada, Mr SamuelOdoi-Sykes, for persuading him to dohis doctorate degree at the RyersonUniversity in Toronto, instead of return-ing to Ghana to pursue a potential polit-ical career.

"I had a scholarship offer and Mr Odoi-Sykes advised me that spending the fewyears required for the PhD was worthit," he recalled. "I was on his staff atthe Ghana High Commission in Ottawaand he was my mentor and so I lis-tened. One thing led to another andafter my doctoral studies, I ended up inacademia. I don’t miss mainstream pol-itics, though, because academia is anexcellent space for promoting positivechange."

Dr Odartey-Wellington is currently aprofessor of Communications at theCape Breton University in Nova Scotiain Canada, having previously taught atthe Osgoode Hall Law School and theRyerson University.

He is regarded as an expert in broad-casting law.

He also recently co-authored Dr NyahoNyaho-Tamakloe's autobiography, titled‘Never Say Die! The Autobiography ofa Statesman’.

Dr Odartey-Wellington said with hisbackground, he believes God has plansfor everyone.

"Just follow your dreams and God has away of making them come true," headded.

I Saw Whitney Houston, Gadhafi In Hell And They Gave MeMessages”- Woman Narrates Her 2nd Visit To Hell

I read this interesting revelation by a woman named Sister Linda.Itis actually the 2nd part of her visit to hell and she names those shesaw there with messages they sent her back to earth with. The likesof Whitney Houston and co..Just read and ……

Jesus went with me to hell this time, when I was with Jesus, thebrightness of Jesus; Jesus have light all over His body, when weentered that dark place, I was seeing, I could see, this time, the peo-ple in hell because of the bright light on Jesus (Jesus is walkingwith a bright light, a glorious light).

And then, Jesus opened my eyes to see some of these men andwomen in hell. Jesus gave me message to Sierra Leone, He said if Ishould have come in December to January only five people inSierra Leone would have raptured five only. That includes the threerighteous pastors and five other people in and out of the church, when I said this in Sierra Leone, people said it is lie.

Jesus said Sierra Leone is polluted; that the shepherds he gave theword to preach to His people in Sierra Leone are dying to meetGod, but majority are in hell. So Jesus sent me to Sierra Leone

When we were in hell, Jesus showed me a glass-like aquarium withpeople inside it, the souls of human who are still on earth are inthat glass inside hell. These are people on earth who are workingfor demons, we have some people on earth who don’t believe any-thing, they are on their own, doing all sorts of bad things, even pas-tors who knows the truth but are bowing down to Satan, they arepartakers of Satan’s communion, their souls are in that place.

Gadhafi in Hell

And Jesus pulled out a man from the fire and he introduced himselfto me, he said, “I am Gadhafi” (because you won’t recognize himbecause the fire has destroyed him, he said, “I am Gadhafi, formerLibya president”

Gadhafi said, “Tell my Libya people to worship Jesus” he said,“Tell my people to believe in Jesus”, he said, “Ah Jesus, havemercy, I never knew you are the right way, have mercy on me”.

He said, even the people who killed him on earth, he doesn’t wantthem to come to hell, he said “Tell my people to believe that Jesusis the right way”

He also gave me another message (why he gave me this message isbecause, he said, the entire mosque he built on earth should bedestroyed and turned into churches so that people will glorify Jesusand maybe the punishment on him in hell will decrease. Becauseanything here on earth that you build that does not glorify JesusChrist, that does not glorify God, that does not make people to

come to their right Father(hotels, bars etc.), anything sinfulin the world that you build (when you die, you leave thesethings on earth). People will be there doing all sorts of evilthings, as far as people are enjoying these places, or practis-ing all sorts of evil things, in the place that doesn’t glorifyJesus Christ, the demons will increase the pain on you inhell.

So he said, “Please so that the pain will decrease, I know ifpeople will worship in my mosque, if they will call Jesusthere, maybe the pain will decrease”

And Jesus said, “It is too late”.

I saw another president (Former president of Guinea).

While Jesus showed me these presidents is because He gaveme message for Sierra Leone president. But when I met mySierra Leone president, he loves God. He obeyed the mes-sage; I thank God for his life, because men of God were say-ing all sorts of things, but the president obeyed the messageof God.

President Lasana Conte, former president of Guinea, he said,“Tell my people in Guinea, let them Jesus over Guinea, andlet them turn to Jesus because Jesus is the only way.”

He said where he is, he doesn’t want anyone to be there, hesaid tell my people to believe and trust in Jesus, he said, hebuilt a cult that he was sponsoring and he was also in thecult. He said, he wants the people to destroy that cult, letthem come to Jesus.

And one famous Lawyer that died: Usher Williams, he wasthe deputy speaker of House of Parliament in Sierra LeoneHouse of Parliament. He was in one cult, they call the cult inSierra Leone “Louch” and he was in devil business, ordain-ing devils. He said I should tell his “Louch” brothers thatthey are heading to hell, all his cult brothers that died beforehim, he saw them in hell, he said “Please destroy louch, destroy these devils” he said, “turn to Jesus, He is the onlyway, hell is real”.

And then, I saw one prophet: Prophet Mani, he was theowner of the Burning Bush, that man said he would die butthat he would also rise up after three days. And when hedied, they took his body to the mortuary, his congregationsaid that they should not bury him, after three days he didnot rise again, he was there for one month until the mortuarypeople said they should come and take their corpse away.

I saw this man in hell; he said “tell the people that I did mir-acles and signs and wonders with communions, these com-munions, those anointing oil, I ordained them and dedicatethem to the demons” he said, tell them to go to a churchwhere they can be delivered or else if they die they will goto hell because I ordained them for Satan; Satan was the onegiving me all these powers.”“And tell them to destroy mychurch because the foundation is from Satan, everything upto the roof is from Satan”.

I saw one woman- a musician I liked so much- I always lis-tened to her music when I was in the world:WhitneyHouston: she said, “tell my mother to take my only daughterto church, that all the finances I left behind should be usedto support God’s work. Let them support Jesus’ ministry, letthem support holiness ministries, let them support God’swork. Let them support Christians- the right Christians. Shesaid she wants her child to grow in Christ and know Jesus.

“Please tell my mother; Jesus please have mercy, let me goback to the world and tell people that you are real, let metell these musicians”

And Jesus said, “It’s too late”.

I saw my biological parents in hell; my mother, my fatherand even my grandmother that just died this January ( Idon’t like talking about them) – sobs – it’s very painful, it’sonly the grace of God, I don’t like talking about hell, sometimes when I am asked to come and give testimony, I don’tlike to, because I know I will reach this part. And one day,Jesus said, if I stopped preaching His word, He will destroyme.

So I always pray to Jesus, whenever I stand to give this tes-timony, to give me the boldness and strength, because anytime I think of my parents, I loved my mother so much butshe didn’t know Jesus.

She was crying; she said, “Please I miss you guys, tell yoursister to follow Jesus, I don’t want you people tom comehere”

Please mother , don’t leave your children behind, you knowthe truth right now, take your children along.

I didn’t recognize my mother anymore. I don’t want to goto hell (I love my mother so much, I use to say anywheremy mother is, I want to go, when Jesus showed me mymother- I don’t want to go to hell, I don’t want to be withhere there.

Don’t go to hell, hell is not a place for people like us.

And God showed me a young boy, about five or six yearsold, because of witchcraft, God say I will judge all men.

When Pastor Ken Paul said a child can go to hell, I arguedin my mind that God would not do something like that, butGod showed me this boy, a small boy, because of witch-craft.

Satan is wicked, now if you go to crusades in Sierra Leoneand they say witches should come out, you will see small-small children

When you are coming for a program like this, don’t leaveyour children behind; come with them so that Jesus willdeliver them. If you leave them and they die, they will goto hell, no matter how small they are; as long as they havesense and know what is bad and good.

I saw another woman who was in Thailand when she died, she was a believer in Jesus married to a Muslim, then back-slide. She said I should tell her daughters, “I loved theirfather so much and trusted him, not knowing that this manwas in occultism”, he sacrificed his wife

She said, tell them to go out and stand firm in the church,in Jesus who is the only way

She gave the man’s name and address. When we returnback from Nigeria, we will try and go and do a tour.
