THE EURASIAN
MARCH 2013 VOL 36 ISSUE 11
aeawa.asn.au
Chad Beins —President
Hello my dear members…it is amazing how time just goes by so quickly…. we have hardly finished saying Happy New Year and we are already preparing for Easter!
We celebrated Chinese New Year (CNY) at our February Sunday lunch. With this most auspicious day falling on the same day plus having to contend with a very hot 40 degree day, we were pleasantly surprised by a brilliant turnout of around 170 people. The air was filled with CNY festivities, with decorations and Chinese songs abound. Many came dressed in their CNY best! The afternoon then progressed with some wonderful entertainment from ‘Krystal’, then it was ‘eyes down’ for the mid lunch bingo game. Our first of four Community Services forums then followed with a small group of members attending a very informative talk on ‘Family Law’. Thank you to everyone who helped us out with the Sunday lunch and the Family Law forum. I am very grateful to many of our members who are always willing to help! Our unsung heroes! 10th March 2013 is our Children, Youth and Family Sunday Lunch. We must acknowledge our younger members at least one day in the year! With more young families joining our member-ship, we want to take this opportunity to make sure that the young ones have fun too and keep coming to our Sunday lunches.
So please make sure you bring the whole family, the grand kids and even their friends along!!! We will have a ‘tae kwon do’ and ‘ballroom dancing’ demonstration, feature modern dance music,, announce our Award winners and top it all off with our favourite family and friends games - ‘EURASIANLYMPICS’! Hope-fully this will mark a grand end to our AEAWA year!!!! Details of Eurasianlympics rules & games are inside. Please have a good look at it and form your teams now! No skill required just lots of luck and laughter for the whole family. We will have a maximum of 10 teams only so please register your team names early. As mentioned earlier, March ends our AEAWA year as we prepare for our AGM on the 14th of April and the start of a new AEAWA year. With regards to the AGM, we will have all necessary details in next month’s newsletter. Please remember that you have to be a financial member to attend. I would encourage all our members to join us at the AGM as it gives you, the member, an opportunity to voice your opinion and Management Commit-tee a chance to listen to our members needs. It is from friendly and constructive suggestions and comments that will be better able to im-prove our service to our Eurasian community. Finally, by the April lunch on the 14th of April, Easter would have passed. Please allow me to wish one and all a meaningful and spiritual season of Lent and a joyful and holy Easter celebration…..
Chad

LUNCH VOUCHERS
To serve the lunches faster, a lunch
voucher needs to be purchased –this is
how it works:
when you arrive you get a num-
bered ticket as usual
then you purchase a lunch voucher
at the entrance, currently $6 for a
main meal ($3 for over 80’s and
free for over 90’s)
if a side dish is available this may
also be purchased at the same time
when your number is called, please
present your numbered ticket to-
gether with the coloured voucher at
the kitchen to receive your meal.
(N.B: One ticket = one main meal + side
dish).
A gentle plea - please have the correct
amount handy to save us running
out of change.
In the unfortunate event that we run out of
all meals, we will refund your money.
(Cakes are sold after the lunch service
has finished)

Community Services Update
In 2012, the Community Services Sub-Committee organised 3 talks covering wills and powers of attorneys, financial counselling and dementia. If you missed out on the talks, the handouts and materials related to these topics will be available at the Sunday Lunch 10 March 2013. Look out for the Community Services Table and help yourself to the available material. Late 2012, a small survey was carried out among our members and it showed that many mem-bers wanted talks covering home security, family law issues and health matters. With this in mind, we organised a talk on family law which took place after the February Sunday Lunch. We have tentatively scheduled the following talks for 2013, subject to the availability of the speakers and with the dates to be confirmed: June Sunday Lunch: A talk on home security by the WA Police August Sunday Lunch: Quarantine issues when returning to Australia October Sunday Lunch: Diabetes prevention and care If you have any ideas or would like to assist the Community Services Sub-Committee please contact Kevin De Souza at 9325 1700 (Office Hours) or by email at [email protected]

Next Golf day (Burswood) 16th March….Please let me know ASAP if you would like to join us as numbers are lim-ited. The time and date are to be confirmed.
