THE EURASIAN
DECEMBER 2012 VOL 34 ISSUE 9
aeawa.asn.au
Our next Sunday lunch will be on the 10th of
February 2013 and we are bringing back the big
YOUTH day Sunday lunch for the 10th of March
2013. Plans are in tow but the main event will
be the return of Eurasianlympics straight after
the March lunch. Please mark your diaries and
TELL THE KIDS!!!
On the subject of Eurasianlympics, our sister
Associations held their inaugural Malaysian
Eurasian Games on the 10th & 11th of Nov 2012.
7 EA’s from Perak, Malacca, Kedah, Sarawak,
Selangor & Federal Territory, Singapore and
host Penang participated in a range of events. I
have written a brief report inside and would
like to encourage all members to seriously
consider participation next year.
A final point or two, our membership runs on a
calendar year and being at year’s end renewals
are now due. Please contact us asap for your
renewal and please invite a friend to join us!
We also have 3 great Awards that we give away
each year. It is sad and disappointing if we have
no nominees or winners, so please make sure
you hand in your forms to us before the closing
date.
Christmas/New Year’s is a time to reflect on the
past and plan for the future. I would like to take
this opportunity to thank my committee for
their support and friendship and everyone who
have helped and volunteered their services in
one way or another, all for our beloved
Eurasian Association! On behalf of the
Management Committee I would like to wish
all members and their loved ones a Merry &
Blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with
joy and peace. God Bless. Chad
It’s the most wonderful time of
the year!! Happy holidays!!
Christmas is finally here!! This is
my last message to you as we
all take a well deserved break and do it all
again in February next year!!
We had another fantastic turnout of around 180
people at our Remembrance Day November
lunch. The bowl was filled with wonderful
notes to our loved ones as we celebrated our
solemn tribute in memory of our dearly
departed. Many thanks as always to all who
kindly assisted. Thank you also to Barney
Morier and Mel Nerva for the lovely music, all
the cooks and kitchen helpers and to Troy
Quintal and Yong for the demonstration and
sharing of their Tai Chi experience with us.
We have some great events lined up in
December as we journey towards the festivities
of Christmas and New Years Days. The
Christmas Tea Dance is on 2nd of December and
our Christmas Sunday lunch and Children’s
Christmas Party is on the 9th of December. We
will celebrate Christmas lunch with curry devil,
feng, ham, sugee, a singalong to some of our
favourite Christmas songs and of course dance
the afternoon away. While we are doing this,
our children will be well taken care of by the
Children’s Christmas Party Committee who has
arranged some brilliant games, fairy floss and
food and sweets galore! Christmas is about
being with the family so please bring the whole
family along…

PRE-PAID LUNCH VOUCHERS
To serve the lunches faster, purchase a pre-
paid lunch voucher. This is how it works:
When you arrive you get a numbered
ticket as usual.
You then purchase a lunch voucher at
the entrance, currently $6 (half price for
over 80’s). You may also purchase a
side dish voucher.
When your number is called, present
your numbered ticket plus the voucher
at the kitchen and get your meal.
(N.B: One ticket = one main meal + side dish).
A gentle plea - please have the correct amount
handy to save us running out of change.
In the unfortunate event that we run out of all
meals, we will refund your money.
PRIZE DRAWS
We raised $350 from the raffle
at the November Sunday Lunch
for the Children’s Christmas

for donating the 1st prize and
also to Julia Jansen for donating

Family Picnic Day - Sunday 25 November
About 40 members enjoyed a midday picnic under the Casuarinas along the
Swan foreshore at A P Hinds Park, Bayswater on a warm but pleasant day. The
kids entertained themselves with various games whilst the adults indulged in
their regular Eurasian delicacies. After lunch the guitars were brought out, and as
usual, the sing-a-long lasted well into the afternoon.
Apart from someone falling off their chair - either from laughter, a full belly or a
few tipples - we savoured the comradeship. Well done organisers!

SENIORS REPORT
Not just for Seniors ... but for all
members & friends
aeawa.asn.au THE EURASIAN
“Merry Christmas” “Bon Natal”
“Felice Navida” to one and all.
Yes it’s that time of the year for peace, love and happy gatherings with families and friends. Spare a thought for the “Have Nots” and keep in mind the true meaning of Christmas.
64 attended the Melbourne Cup at the Crown Casino. Some of the ladies donned on hats and looked very charming. Per-haps next year the men will also dress up for the occasion.
We are delighted to have visited Channel 7 Tour (please see report by Ernie Lopez).
Next event by the Seniors Sub-Committee, will be the weekend away at Kerrilly Park Farm from Fri 1st to Sun 3rd March 2013. Ring me or any Sub- Committee Member if interested.
God Bless and have a safe Christmas. See you in the New Year 2013 .

At 1pm Wed 21st November, 24 members and guests of AEAWA fronted up at the Gate of Channel 7 at Dianella for our arranged visit and were very warmly greeted by Sharon Neates the PR & Promotional Manager who showed us to the Reception and Presentation Room where we watched a 10 minute video clip of how news is put to air. It involves a whole lot of processors before we get to see in our living rooms after re-processing from Melbourne.
Channel 7 commenced operations as the first TV station in WA on 16th October 1959 from Studio 1 from where 7 News, Weather and the Today Tonight (current affairs) programs are beamed. Many iconic shows like Telethon, Its Academic and Children's Channel 7 programs are also produced. The studio has all the latest technologies and most expensive cameras costing up to $200,000 each ($80,000 per lens). We were sud-denly shuffled out of the Studio in haste as the crew were to update the latest news and Sharon led us into Studio 2. Here we were briefed on the use of Cyclorama; the studio walls are covered in white canvass curving around to meet the floor to give the effect of infinity in the room - "there is no end"! End of the tour and we were led to the Cafeteria where we were treated to Tea & Coffee and Scones (with fresh cream and jam) apparently a special treat in conjunction with Seniors Week. Whilst there Natalia Cooper the Weather presenter and Basil Zempilas the sports commentator kindly joined us to have a chat and sign autographs. Altogether a memorable visit many thanks to Sharon Neates of Channel 7and not forgetting our Joan Reincastle for organ-ising the visit .
