Xavier High School A & E 12 John & Con: Reviews by the better ones, the album feels incomplete. It does not meet the expectations you would have for a group of so many talented artists. Even though there is a lot of potential, this album does not compare to the quality of music Kanye has produced in the past. We recommend you still pick up the album for $9.99 for an enjoyable listen, but don’t expect to be blown away. We weren’t. Kanye West Presents Good Music Cruel Summer John Richardson and Connor Collins Sports Assistant Editor and Sports Writer The Xavier Marching Band has started their season. Their 2012 season show is called “Beatlemania” with songs by the well-known band The Beatles. Their songs include “Magical Mystery Tour/ Lady Madonna”, “Blackbird/ Yesterday”, “Eleanor Rigby”, and “Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band/The End”. “Miss Swehla is a huge fan of The Beatles so I’m not surprised she chose this theme,” senior Micaela Andrews said. The marching band prepares for competitions by rehearsing first period every day. They also have Monday night rehearsals from 7 to 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. rehearsal Wednesday and Friday mornings. The marching band will be attending at least four competitions this year. They competed in two competitions on Saturday, September 22. They placed 5th overall at the Linn-Mar Marching Invitational and placed 2nd overall in the Marion Invitational. The Iowa City High Little Hawk Invitation will be held on Saturday, September 29. The State Marching Band Competition will be held on Saturday, October 6 at Kingston Stadium. The Indoor Marching Band Classic will be held on Monday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Linn-Mar Stadium. They also perform during half-time at home football games. The color guard was cut due to lack of members. “We had two willing members, but you have to have a minimum of five people in a color guard. We will totally have a color guard again if people sign up and participate! So join please!” senior Micaela Andrews said. After much delay (which is apparent by the ironic title, as it is no longer summer), the album was hyped up for months. When it comes down to it, this is where the album loses its touch. Throughout the summer, West released five of the album’s twelve songs prior to the release date. In addition to that, the full album leaked five days before the actual release.
