This interfaith candlelight service commemorates the lives of 329 people who died homeless thisyear in Orange County. And, just as last year, this gathering will be the only commemoration some ofthese brothers and sisters will receive. As we honor these neighbors we cannot ignore the fact thattheir deaths — on the streets, in emergency shelters and some, in local hospitals — were all toooften the direct result of their lack of adequate housing, safety and security, food, and health care. May we commit ourselves to raising public awareness about the plight of the homeless. Maywe raise our voices and be agents of change, so that no one goes without shelter, security,food or medical care. And, may we strive to end homelessness forever in Orange County.
