With an area of 400 square meters of laboratories, 150square meters of offices and a total investment in equipmentof 4 million RMB, the Laboratory of Advanced Technology of Power & Electrical Engineering aims at ensuring an academicand educational prestige in China.

Possessing rich resources in advanced instruments, facilities,test-bed and power resource, the laboratory devotes muchresearch to basic theory and key technology of high voltagepower. Focusing on the international frontier technology andits application as well as the key problems in the nationaleconomy, the laboratory has taken projects from NationalNatural Science Foundation and at provincial or ministeriallevel. The laboratory actively carries out the research on theformation mechanism and industrial application of

atmospheric pressure glow discharge, and meanwhileapplies for its key projects from National Natural ScienceFoundation.

Current research activities can be split into the following:

A. Traditional high voltage research:

1. Research on discharge along contaminated hydrophobic

and hydrophilic surface2. Outdoor insulation performance and insulator selection forextra and ultra high voltage transmission line3. Diagnosis and evaluation of outdoor insulation status of power transmission system4. Corona discharge remote monitoring technology of transmission and transformer outdoor insulation

5. Novel technology of transmission line;6. Research on mechanism of conductor galloping and theanti-galloping technology and method7. Harmfulness of ice-shedding on overhead transmissionline and the controlling method8. Research on dynamic characteristics of conductors andaccessory devices on overhead transmission line

9. Research on characteristic of insulation material andinsulators10. Technology of corona cage, corona characteristics andelectrical-magnetic environment of overhead transmissionline.

B. Appliance of high voltage in novel technology:

1. NOX removal by plasma synergized with catalysts2. Non-biodegradable waste water treatment by discharge
