An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Charge Midwife to take charge of the Antenatal Clinic in Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, Fife, in the first instance.

The maternity unit in Kirkcaldy was opened in January 2012, and as well as the outpatient and community settings has a high risk Consultant Unit and a low risk Midwife Led Unit, with approx 3500 births per year. The antenatal clinic at Queen Margaret Hospital is the second consultant and midwifery antenatal clinic in Fife, serving the women and babies of West Fife.

We are seeking an experienced and forward thinking individual to lead the team in the outpatient setting. We require an individual that aspires to ensuring excellent standards of care for pregnant women and their families, to include managing a day care unit.

You must have strong leadership and management skills. You will be a midwife who believes that the pregnant women’s journey and experience is central to the care delivered by the team.

Requirements:Registered midwife on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register, with demonstrable continuing professional development, preferably at degree level (or working towards a degree)Strong leadership skills; to support and develop the midwifery teamSubstantial midwifery experience at Band 6 level (AFC)Excellent communication skills are essential along with a flexible can do attitudeAbility to organise priorities and co-ordinate work of self and others, including those from other disciplinesGood understanding of budget managementAware of changing trends in midwifery and obstetric practiceAbility to work autonomously and demonstrate ability to problem solve

We are seeking an experienced nurse who will embrace the challenge of this dynamic and exciting role. You will be an expert clinical practitioner responsible for providing advanced clinical assessment of the surgical patient; enhancing care and improving patient flow in conjunction with national standards.

You will work as part of a team of two Advanced Nurse Practitioners and be responsible for performing clinical assessment of deteriorating patients and apply clinical expertise to diagnose and initiate appropriate investigations and treatment. You will work collaboratively with the designated ward teams as well as the on-call team as well as others to deliver safe, effective, person centred care.

You will work across professional and organisational boundaries in partnership with others including acute and primary care nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and senior management teams. You should possess the leadership skills to prioritise demanding workloads and be responsive in a challenging clinical environment.You should be able to demonstrate an ongoing and self-motivated commitment to continued professional development.

You must possess an Advanced Clinical Examination qualification and preferably the Non Medical Prescribing course – or evidence of working towards this.

You must be in possession of a minimum of a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice. Possession of a Masters qualification or a willingness to work towards is desirable; however, the ability to demonstrate Masters level thinking is essential. An exciting and challenging secondment opportunity has arisen at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for two registered nurses who are keen to enhance and develop their senior management skills and leadership qualities to support the Senior Charge Nurse within ward 15.

The post holder will be expected to support the SCN to deliver safe and effective care that enhances the patient experience and contributes to the delivery of the organisation's objectives. The post holder must have significant post registration experience within an acute clinical setting.

This post is full time, 37.5 hour per week predominantly worked over 5 weekdays with occasional weekend working to cover the duty charge nurse rota.

Ward 15 is a very busy ward and you are required to work well under pressure and remain calm. You will be required to take charge of the ward in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse carrying out clinical, leadership and management duties. The Charge Nurse needs to be clinically experienced but also have the knowledge and ability to support the SCN in the management of the ward including staff management. The candidate should have a commitment to acute medicine of the elderly, patient centred care and supporting effective team working. They must demonstrate understanding of the complexities of caring for frail individuals with acute and chronic episodes of delirium whilst planning care and treatment for acute medical conditions.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a prescribing support nurse with experience in delivering care to patients over a range of long term conditions to join the prescribing support team in helping to improve the safety, quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing within NHS Fife.

Under the direction of the lead pharmacists, you will engage with GP practices, care homes, clinics and wards to improve prescribing, maximise prescribing efficiencies and improve adherence to clinical guidelines and formulary in your specialist area.

This may involve review of patients’ medication to provide expert opinion on best treatment; set-up of bespoke clinics to review these patients (in addition to practices’ regular clinic provision); peer support and education to practice nurses to develop their own clinics.

An excellent relationship has been established with the Managed Clinical Network (MCN) leads and nurse managers and they will continue to provide professional input and direction to your role, and you likewise will be expected to support the work of the MCN at times, e.g. through meeting attendance, providing educational support.

We are looking for nurses with in-depth knowledge over a range of long term conditions eg respiratory, diabetes, chronic pain and mental health. You will have experience in a patient facing role in primary care or hospital and have the ability to influence prescribing to ensure that patients receive the optimal treatment for their condition, in line with local and national guidelines.

You should have good interpersonal skills and be able to work with a range of people including patients, fellow nurses, GPs, practice managers, practice pharmacists and MCN managers/leads.

The posts are Fife-wide and the ability to travel throughout Fife is essential.

This post involves providing a Specialist Weight Management Dietetic Service to Tier 3 patient referrals. This team is made up of Dietitians, Psychology staff and surgeon. The team accept referrals in line with the Adult Weight Management pathway for Tier 3/4 Weight Management, where the patients are assessed and complete a group work programme. Successful patients then move on to Tier 4 and possible Bariatric surgery.

The post holder will support the team lead to provide a Dietetic service for the Tier 3 patients at clinic, in groups and for maintenance. The monthly referral rate varies between 35-50 patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join the mental health Occupational Therapy service in Fife. The post is based within the adult mental health service working with people aged 18-65 who are experiencing mental health problems impacting on their occupational performance. An opportunity has arisen to join an enthusiastic, motivated and supportive team of 11 Consultant Emergency Physicians (9.85 WTE). The role is based in the Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, which opened in 2012. The department has an annual attendance of 65,000.

The appointee will be responsible for the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all emergencies. They will make arrangements for patients to be admitted into hospital beds, special units or other hospitals, to outpatients or back to the community. They will be expected to participate actively in the clinical workload of the Department, undertaking direct management and assessment of patients. During Departmental sessions, the appointee will need to be aware of the junior doctors’ workload and to take action to ensure that excess hours are not worked. They will use their Sports and Exercise Medicine expertise to support staff in the department in the management of musculoskeletal injury assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing education. Other areas of the appointee’s expertise - for example in topics like concussion will also be utilised in ongoing education and training of staff.

As an EM consultant group we believe strongly in providing a sustainable work/life balance. A PA is included for each on call. Clinical administration time has been factored in as per RCEM guidance. There is a 24 hour middle grade rota with no gaps.

We perform well in key areas such as sepsis, stroke thrombolysis and compliance with the 4 hour target. We have an excellent relationship and collaborate closely with all in-patient teams. As a department we are committed to teaching and providing a positive experience of EM to our junior doctors. Our trainees rate their experiences in Fife highly and this is recognised regionally and in GMC surveys.

The 4 sessions offer you support and guidance as well as putting you in touch with other NQPs. Ideally practitioners will attend all 4 workshops and where possible in sequential order. The aims are:

o To support newly qualified nurses, midwives and AHPs recognise their responsibilities as a registered practitioner

o To prepare NQPs for their first Personal Development Plan (PDP)/Turas Appraisal and embed within their practice life-long learning

o Support in the completion of the Flying Start NHS programme within the first year of practice

What is Flying Start NHS?

Flying Start NHS is the national development programme for all newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, to be undertaken in the first year of practice. It’s designed to help support the transition from pre-registered student to qualified, confident and capable health professional by supporting learning and development.
