QUESTIONS / ANSWERS

A3.11 Q1: Triple glazed units are noted in sect. 2/A61 and details on A2. I’m assuming they are double glazed?

A1: As per Specification Section 08 80 50, Part 2.1.6 - double glazed units

A3.12 Q2: Will elevated work platforms (ie. Skyjack) be permitted on 2nd floor to reach mechanical work? A2: Any elevated work platform must comply with design loads on the structure. This is the

Contractor’s responsibility either through providing shoring for the ground floor or ensuring that any equipment used does not overload the slab.

A3.13 Q3: Will the main use of synthetic turf be for practice, for example with a high level soccer team,

requiring the synthetic turf to play like a natural field? Or, is the synthetic turf surface being used for traditional training methods, for example, speed + agility training, pushing sleds, and/or plyometric work?

A3: The turf will be used by the university football team for indoor tactical and physical training, including pushing sleds.

A3.14 Q4: What are the dimensions and adjusted heights of the two “partial remove concrete foundation

wall” on drawing S10, detail 1? A4: The intention at these locations is to build an F6 (3’-4” x 3’-4” x 10”) footing and a P1 pier (1’-

2” x 1’–2”) to match the existing bearing surface foundation (depth = 7’-0”). The contractor should use their own judgment to determine the required clearance for the excavation and demolition.

A minimum 15-degree angle in the vertical direction for making the partial excavation (it may define an excavation plan of 7’-0” x 7-0”) and a minimum of 4’-0” length of foundation wall to be demolished.

As per the structural drawings, shoring shall be installed to protect all structure to remain, new excavation, etc.

A3.15 Q5: Please provide bearing capacity of soil for shoring/underpinning.

A5: The bearing soil capacity is to be taken as 194 Kpa (4000 psf) as per “Foundation and Backfill” note #10 on drawing S00.

A3.16 Q6: Please provide anticipated building loads to determine shoring/underpinning requirements.

A6: Please, refer to “Drawing Notes” on drawing S01 for the considered design loads at roof and second levels.

A3.17 Q7: Please provide soils report, including material test to determine disposal requirements.

A7: A previous Geotechnical Investigation report for the “Proposed Alumni Stadium Improvements” by Peto MacCallum Ltd. consulting Engineers dated on January 21, 2009 is attached.

A3.18 Q8: According to LEX DSS report, When drilling is performed in any cinder block wall it will be

required Type II with HEPA attachment abatement procedure due to the presence of contaminated vermiculite. Because we don't know how many drilling operations will be required, is it possible to include a cash allowance for this part of work or establish a unit price per hole so the abatement contractors can have the same scope to price?

A8: This type of work is to be included under the abatement allowance. See above specification modifications.
