Web Filtering Technology

The AdaptiveMobile NPP provides a wide range of web security policy enforcement controls for http and https based services including:

Web-site categorization: Filtering based on the content category of a web page, for example advertising, weapons, banking, pornography etc. Based on industry leading database technologies. The database is updated daily with the latest additions and deletions from the internet and tailored for your subscribers. This list also includes the Internet Watch Foundation illegal site listing.

Web-site Whitelist/Blacklist: Providing the ability to block or allow specific web-sites or domains defined by individual administrators. These filters can also be used to create a walled garden of ‘trusted’ web sites preventing any access outside of these restrictions.Time-of-day controls: Web policies can be specified to be applied during particular times of day or days of week.

Blocking Redirection Page: Each customer can define their own redirection page, displayed when a web request is blocked. This page can be tailored to the customers brand identity and preferences.

There are a number of additional filtering technologies that can be optionally applied including anti-phishing web-site protection, anti-malware web-site protection and anti-virus scanning of web content.

Putting your Customers in Control

The AdaptiveMobile NPP provides each of your individual customers the ability to define and deploy their own web security policies using the Policy Management Console. This console provides full administrative capabilities to the authenticated administrator of the system. Policies can be created, modified and removed as required. The PMC offers a full multi-tenant architecture with auditable logging of all platform changes and user activity.

The PMC can be deployed as a stand-alone service or as an integrated component of a customer self-care portal.

Flexible Deployment Options

The AdaptiveMobile NPP can be deployed either as a private or public cloud hosted platform. These deployment options allow for situations where the service provider is managing the wifi services only and the internet/broadband services are provided by one or more third party providers. When deployed in a private cloud the carrier can steer traffic for the opted-in users to the NPP for security policies to be applied. The NPP can be deployed as a TCP/IP L2 or L3 transparent device and can be easily integrated into any modern IP networking infrastructure.

When the AdaptiveMobile NPP is deployed in a public cloud environment, traffic is directed to the NPP-cloud using a tunnelled network connection from an intelligent CPE platform. The security policies are then applied before the traffic is relayed to the internet.

By offering these flexible deployment options the NPP can be used in most network configurations. The NPP is a software solution and can be adapted to integrate into different deployment environments.

Performance and Latency

The AdaptiveMobile NPP has been designed to provide the best user experience and quality of service possible, without compromising security. The NPP averages a latency of 2ms for each web request, when deployed in a customer network.

This level of latency is typically less than the normal variations in internet traffic and web server response times. For normal web browsing, users are unaware that filtering is being performed.
