GUIDE TO BIDDING ONLINE

• To place a silent auction bid, click on the link to the bid sheet for the item. Submit

your name, email, and phone number on the form.

• Indicate your maximum bid on the bid sheet. The online process will not allow you to see bids from other bidders. You can enter as many bids as you like for a single item. Any bid that fails to meet the minimum bid will be disqualified.

• Any accommodation/hotel reservations are on a space-available basis and subject to holiday blackout periods. Remember, you are making your reservation based on a donor’s terms and restrictions.

• Please place your final bids prior to closing time. Online bidding ends at 12 noon PDT on the day of the benefit: Sunday, August 28, 2011.

• Bidding will then continue on-site at the luncheon. On-site bidding will end at 2PM PDT on the day of the benefit: Sunday, August 28, 2011.

• At the time of closing, bid sheets will be removed from the Silent Auction tables and reviewed by Pacific Links Foundation (PALS) staff who will certify the winning bids. The highest bid on each bid sheet will be declared the winner. In the event of a dispute or a last-minute bidding war for a silent item, PALS staff shall have sole and final discretion in determining the winning bid.

• All winning bids must be settled before the end of the event by cash, check or credit card. Credit cards payment will be made online.

• If you are a winner through online bidding, PALS will contact you to let you know and payment must be made within 3 days.

• PALS staff will contact online winners following the benefit to confirm payment pick-up and/ or shipping. Online auction winners will be responsible for all shipping charges of their winning items. On-site winners will pick up items at event.

Item # F02 Title: “Working Hands” - Set of 3 photos Material: Photography Description: The trafficking survivors at our shelters have

been working since they were toddlers. To help their families, they may work in the fields, tend to the livestock, cook and clean, and take care of their younger siblings, among many other tasks. For the ethnic minority girls in the north, they may also embroider and dye cloth in order to sew their own clothing or to produce fabric to sell. This series of 3 photographs captures the industrious hands of three sisters, all of whom were trafficking survivors, during a visit to their family's home in northern Vietnam. Photographer Nhu Tien Lu is a writer currently working with ADAPT in the northern and southern regions of Vietnam. (8”x10”, unframed).

Nang, a seaside city with an ocean breeze that cools while inviting kids and adults alike to fly kites. The kite vendors have bikes that are festooned with kites that dance at the end of tethers attached to poles. At night, when kites are backlit from street lamps and headlights from cars and motorcycles, they glow. In “Da Nang Kite at Night #2,” the photographer was able to catch this glow and in the lower part of the image you can see the headlight of an oncoming vehicle. Photographed by Neal Newfield, 2011. bestseller young writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu. One of her books, "Canh Dong Bat Tan", was made into an internationally acclaimed movie, screened widely on US university campuses. Born in 1976, Nguyen Ngoc Tu first achieved fame in 2000, and introduced the notion of "bestseller" in Vietnam. In 2007, some of her works were translated into Korean.

as they catch a mother carrying her child in a bicycle's basket without a child’s helmet here in the US. However, in many parts of the world and in Vietnam, this is the only way mothers can afford to transport their children daily. The red sheer scarf is used to cover the child from the dirt along the unpaved road. Photo was taken in Ha Nam, when Hai-Ho participated with Project Vietnam on a medical mission. (18”x25”).

with the traditional costume and the intricately embroidered textiles worn by this H'mong Girl in Sapa, Vietnam. She carries a basket with a chicken inside heading to the market. Frequent travelers to Sapa will notice that globalization is creeping in, even in such a remote region where members of indigenous hill tribe groups such as H’mong, Dzao, Tay and Tai, minorities of Vietnam, fiercely defend their cultural identities such as by wearing traditional dress at all times.
