REFUND DEADLINE is Thursday 4pm of the first week of classes. 2) Should Adult Ed. office cancel a class, you will be notified and receive a full refund. 3) Students must be at least 16 years of age to register to attend adult education classes. interested in improving their literacy skills such as reading,

(ESL). Volunteer tutors work with an adult learner for an
average of 1-2 hours per week. Tutors and learners meet in
a public setting. The one-to-one program runs year-round.

GOLD PANNING / PROSPECTING NEAR BUTTE This popular class returns, because the last group really did “find gold in them thar hills!” Learn most basic placering techniques and equipment. Visit locations near Butte, emphasis on non-motorized, non-electronic methods of recovery. Also discussed is what to do with recovered gold. Mostly 3 hour weekend fieldtrips.
Beginning CHINESE LANGUAGE & CULTUIRE Hanna is from China and wants to share her language and culture. Learn travel phrases, words in daily life, greetings, manners and much more. This is a fun learning experience through games, song, and methods she has used when teaching in Japan, Korea and USA. Hanna is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
KNITTING WITH KAROLEE This class is all about “warm & fuzzies”. If you are a new or advanced knitter, you are encouraged to try new techniques throughout the semester. Bring a project in progress or we will discuss a new project to
challenge you. New knitters, please bring a skein of worsted weight yarn and size 8 knitting needles. This group is well knit together and they always have FUN !

BEGINNING CLAWHAMMER BANJO— This is not
Earl Scruggs bluegrass style banjo. It‟s Appalachian
mountain style. A beginning class to brush up, show off
or learn something new. You‟ll study basic stroke, bum-
ditty, Pete Seeger rhythm, hammers and pull-
offs, drop thumb, Galax licks and how to
make your banjo “cluck like a stuck chicken”.

This class is primarily based on “A Modern Approach to Classical Guitar”. There will be some group instruction, but mostly Kathy will guide the students as they work through the book at their own pace. Learn to tune the guitar, read notes, fingering, notes of open string guitars, fretted notes, playing scales, chords and much more. A Classical or acoustic guitar is necessary, bring it every night.

HIKING FOR THE NOVICE—This class will focus on basic hiking skills. We will take short hikes on Saturday mornings. Our hikes will be 1-2 miles long (1-1.5 hours). All the details will be at the class room the first night. Instructor was tour guide for the Caverns and camp counselor many years. She is First Aid & CPR certified.
