ActiveBatch® V10 Features

ActiveBatch Version 10, scheduled for release in January 2016, will provide organizations with greater collaboration and insight capabilities that further enhance the industry’s most advanced IT Automation solution. V10 introduces new automation functionality including innovative collaboration features, an innovative REST integration, a newly designed Dashboard, and four new and enhanced views for Operations and Developers. This document describes the new and enhanced features for ActiveBatch® V10 as compared to V9 SP5. Please note this is not an exhaustive list of new V10 features.

Map View Map View replaces and improves on System View’s hierarchical display by providing a holistic view of all workflows and object relationships within ActiveBatch. Map View allows users to pan and zoom to any object or location while still maintaining the context of the entire ActiveBatch system, removing the need to drill down or zoom out within the hierarchy. Developers can also add frequently used or accessed objects to the object canvas for simplified drag-and-drop. Map View supports a Smart Search capability for rapid identification of objects and supports association of all objects to jobs and plans, allowing users to create associations by simply dragging and layering objects into a job, plan or workflow.

Workflow Optimizer Workflow Optimizer works in conjunction with Map View to provide an elapsed time insight for all the underlying jobs and plans that make up a workflow. This object-by-object and total elapsed time view allows developers the ability to change workflow shapes, add or remove objects (jobs, plans) and instantly determine what effect the changes had in terms of estimated run time.

Check-Out | Check-In with Collaboration Check-Out | Check-In provides a collaborative “team” approach for improved workflow development, by allowing multiple developers simultaneous access to work on the same object(s). One or more objects can be checked out and upon Check-In, workflow authors can address any conflicting changes with ActiveBatch’s built-in Conflict Resolution tool. Check-Out | Check-In with Collaboration also supports exclusive access so one developer can exclusively check out an object, preventing other developers from modifying the same object.

Machine Load View Machine Load View provides Operations with a better understanding of how their systems and resources are being utilized by both ActiveBatch and non-ActiveBatch processes. Machine Load View provides a visual heat map with refined performance counter graphs to better identify heavily used, lightly used, and available systems.

Gantt View Gantt View has been redesigned to show workflow instances by time of day while graphically presenting their Job/Plan relationships. Job/Plan shapes are shown based on how long the individual job/plan executed so you can visually see how long a workflow took to run as well as which jobs within the workflow took the longest.

Forecast View Forecast View provides greater insight to Operations for determining the critical path of a series of workflows (for example, an entire operational day), or a specific workflow. Using Forecast View’s visual Gantt chart, Operations can quickly determine any impact to a workflow or related set of workflows so users have the ability to address issues before they impact workflow execution. Additionally, users can determine and mitigate any external impacts to a workflow by checking Latest Starting and Ending Times, which are shown both visually and in text.

Service Level Agreement (SLA) Monitor View Service Level Agreement (SLA) Monitor View has been restructured and dramatically improved to allow Operations greater insight into critically marked workflows. The real-time SLA Monitor View combines both text and graphical workflow and job relationships to allow Operations to easily track critical jobs and workflows. As a result, Operations is alerted as early as possible when a critical SLA workflow may run late or potentially breach the SLA, subsequently allowing them time to make adjustments in order to help the workflow complete on time.

Simulation Mode Simulation Mode accelerates workflow development and Quality Assurance testing by simulating the execution of a workflow, without actually running the job’s payload. As a result, developers and testers can more quickly identify ActiveBatch logic issues without having to wait for long-running payloads to complete. Developers and QA personnel can verify error and success workflow paths as well as simulate short or long running workflows and their impact on other related workflows.

Business Day Scheduling ActiveBatch has always supported the concept of a Business Day in terms of scheduling workflows. With V10, the starting time for a Business Day may now be defined. A normal calendar day begins at midnight (0000), but users may now elect to start the business day at 6 a.m. (0600) or any other time of day. While the length of a day is still 24 hours, the advantage of a non-standard starting time for a Business Day is that the traditional issues concerning midnight and dates disappear.

Constraint-Based Scheduling (CBS) Constraint-Based Scheduling (CBS) is a new supported type of trigger-based system, which provides users with additional scheduling flexibility and improved ease of use. With CBS, users can avoid time-specific scheduling by indicating that a workflow may execute if its established constraints are successfully met. This means you can reduce slack time to meet service level agreements. Additionally, developers can further influence when the workflow may be run (earliest or latest) by time.

REST Adapter The new REST Adapter provides users with improved ease of use as users will be able to leverage the ActiveBatch Service Library to create reusable Job Steps from REST methods for common, repetitive workflows. This simplifies the use of RESTful Services since REST methods, and any complexity associated with them, are removed from workflow authoring. ActiveBatch also supports a “raw” REST Job Step for advanced users. The inclusion of REST support, with ActiveBatch’s existing support of Web Services, .Net Assemblies, Stored Procedures and Command Line, expands the number of integrations available so users can create dynamic-end-to-end workflows across different technologies and applications.

New and Improved Instance Operations ActiveBatch V10 supports a variety of new and improved operations. Improvements to the Hold/Release and Soft Disable operations allow operators much greater latitude in terms of correcting workflows without having to make changes to the Production system.

Dashboard The new ActiveBatch Dashboard offers a dynamic visualization of the performance and health of the ActiveBatch system. Operations will be able to quickly and efficiently view both the real-time and historical progress of their business and IT operational workflows through the use of visual aids that map key performance metrics.

Enterprise Random Password Manager from Lieberman Software (ERPM) ActiveBatch will expand its authentication types to include Lieberman Software’s Enterprise Random Password Manager (ERPM), an adaptive privilege management platform. ActiveBatch’s support for ERPM simplifies user and password management as changes made to user credentials via ERPM will be pushed out automatically to ActiveBatch, without requiring additional updates. Please note that ERPM is separately licensed by

Lieberman Software and is not included in ActiveBatch.

Informatica Cloud Extension for ActiveBatch In addition to our support for Informatica PowerCenter, ActiveBatch now supports the Informatica Cloud service in our Integrated Jobs Library, allowing users to integrate data across cloud-based applications as well as on premise systems and databases. ActiveBatch’s advanced automation capabilities provide users with the ability to support Informatica Cloud tasks with other sophisticated business processes occurring outside of Informatica Cloud. The Informatica Cloud Extension for ActiveBatch is

separately licensed.
