PREFACE

Dear all

The Arts Council of Mongolia is very pleased to present you with our annual report for 2015.

Here at the ACM we have a tradition of presenting a piece of art on the cover of our annual report. Thisyear’s piece is called “Hybrid Resistance” and was created by the talented artist E. Jantsankhorol. Jantsankhorolgraduated from Hunter College, New York, reaping the benets of the international experience. He has a unique

talent for identifying new creative ways and forms of art. This is why we are giving him this opportunity to share

his experiences with other young Mongolian artists and students by supporting Jantsankhorol in presenting hisrst independent exhibition last December at Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum.

This year the ACM pledges to continue working to support artistic excellence and building the capacityof artists to promote their work to a wide audience. The ACM also hopes to increase its collaboration withartists, arts organizations and business companies, to initiate new cultural projects and programs based on the

sustainable development guidelines of the UN.

In 2015, we have managed to not only sustain our ongoing programs but also increase their effectiveness,

One of the major programs at the ACM is our Arts Program. In 2015, the goal of the arts program was

to continue to promote the production of new high-quality art and enhance our international cooperation and

competitiveness. The arts program implemented more than 20 projects, including cultural exchange programsand training opportunities, reaching more than 500 artists, art managers and 9,000 viewers.

This year, the Community Arts Education Program implemented 8 projects that worked to both improve

public awareness of national and modern art and also support children and youth to access art education. Wegave 15 college and university students full-year or short-term scholarships, 35 school children took part in aninternational cultural exchange program, 7 teachers took part in capacity-building training programs and 35artists and journalists have worked with the program to promote arts education to the public.

Under the Cultural Heritage Program, the ACM strengthened and promoted cultural heritage by improvingthe capacities of professional organizations for cultural preservation and protection. For example, we produced

GREETING BY ROGER PERRY, ACM HONORARY GOLDEN BENEFACTOR

I am very proud to be asked to greet readers of the Arts Council of Mongolia Annual Reportas an Honorary Golden Benefactor of ACM.

I have been involved with the work of ACM since my rst visit to Mongolia in 2006 and havebeen very interested in the work that they have undertaken to preserve the very importantcultural heritage of the proud Mongolian people.

The work of ACM is very important because the cultural heritage of Mongolia is part of thesoul of Mongolia and is very much at risk of being lost in the march of development withoutthe efforts of the good people at ACM that work so tirelessly for its preservation.

The preservation of Mongolia’s cultural heritage is not only important from a tourist viewpoint, it is importantfrom the point of view of educating future generations of young Mongolians in the great achievements of theirancestors, led by Chinggis Khan, who created the largest empire that ever existed and who still providesinspiration to his descendants today.

It is important that every person involved in the development of Mongolia - government, foreign investors, miningcompanies and Mongolian citizens - recognises the true value of Mongolia’s cultural heritage and ensures thatevery project undertaken is aware of the effect of that project on the national heritage.
