Background
• No minimum standard of investigation/regulatory skills
• Investigators/staff come from a wide variety of backgrounds
• No formal training in some areas (start or continuous)
• No accreditation (internal or external)• No real assessment of training • Future challenges (SDT, court etc)
Proposals
• To design and implement an accredited scheme
• To enable the scheme to be adapted for use cross the whole of the organisation
• External accreditation via The University of Cardiff

• Small project team set up• Constructive dialogue with Cardiff • Scoping our current learning material• Looking at the gaps (internal and
external)• Designed initial prospectus
Proposed prospectus
• Based of five areas of learning
• Law, ethics and regulation
• Investigating non compliance
• Judicial process
• Applied skills – investigation, gathering evidence etc
• Working with others ( external and internal)
Plan
• Around 160 hours of learning• 9 months – formal university course• Split into modules • Credits may be given for further study• External accreditation – certificate or
diploma in regulation (Masters level)• Start September 2013• Working with Human resources –
compulsion of staff
Way ahead
• Formal design of course• Complete prospectus• 50 to start in September 2013• 200 staff (front end operational over 2 years
from all areas of the SRA)• Cost 2 k per individual• Ongoing refresher training (formal plan)
