Dear Friends in Christ, Last week, I talked a bit about the love of God for us and his plan of salvation for the world. I hope that you understand that holiness is an essential key to this plan of salvation. God's plan of salvation for us comes with a vital tool! This tool is his teaching. In the Gospel, we heard how Jesus said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven." People followed Him and listened to his voice, and Jesus responded by teaching and helping them. We do not know what Jesus taught this crowd entirely. Still, we know that Jesus came proclaiming the kingdom of God and inviting people to participate in the kingdom through repentance and faith. One of the most important teachings is that He is the food we need to become like him. In our first reading, we heard how Elijah was fed with food for the angel and sent for a journey, "but the angel of the LORD came back a second time, touched him, and ordered, "Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!" So he got up, ate, and drank; then strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of God, Horeb." He was sleeping, and God woke him up to do what he needed to do. This food strengthened him, and he could walk forty days and forty nights! Isn't it amazing! God is always attentive to the needs of His people and is ready to give us what we need to follow His will. Saint Paul wrote to the Ephesians how God wants us to be. The apostle said to the community of Ephesus, "Brothers and Sisters: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ." I know that it sounds challenging to do it! But our Creator knows us and provides for us what we need. In today's Gospel Jesus is telling us, "It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me." This is very consoling for us! Jesus is teaching us; Jesus wants us to desire to deepen our relationship with him; Jesus is giving us what we need for our journey. We can be very sure we are being led by God. We should rejoice in that and give ourselves to this will without any fear! This week, my invitation is to come before God in humility, with open ears and hearts, begging the help of his grace, his light, his wisdom, to know what the truth is. Let us listen very carefully to what Jesus says; let us watch Jesus' actions; gaze into his face, and walk with him. — Fr. Rubén Darío Muñoz Jiménez

“They shall all be taught by God.”

Dear Friends in Christ,

Last week, I talked a bit about the love of God for us and his plan of salvation for the world.

Stewardship By the Book - The gifts of God that the angel brought to Elijah - food, water, rest, and encouragement - were given, not for his own good alone, but to strengthen him for service. How am I using my gifts to serve others? Vocation View - The Divine Presence is often symbolized in the use of bread, wine, water, oil, candles, fire and light. Each of us must be a sign/symbol of God’s presence. Why don’t you give it a try? Stewardship Reflections - “Get up and eat or the journey will be too much for you!” 1 KINGS 19:7 God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult. However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need His help. Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son, Jesus. Through the gift of the Eucharist we join our sacrifice with the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and receive the strength and courage to be His joyful disciples. Family Perspective-by Bud Ozar - “Stop murmuring” Jesus told the disciples in today’s gospel. Complaining is a dead-end and constant complaining is nagging. We might feel better, but others feel bitter. Silence or grumbling will not resolve the problem. Address differences honestly and respectfully. Don’t make them personal attacks.
