Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time November 3, 2019

JMJ

November 3, 2019 God be with us always. We have celebrated two significant occasions in the Liturgical Calendar – the Solemnity of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. The former is a Holy Day of Obligation in the sense that we are being reminded of our fundamental vocation to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. In a more dynamic vocation, we are called to be Saints following the example of all the Saints we honor on November 1st. We take time to pray and honor also our departed loved ones on 2nd November – All Souls Day. It is a manifestation of the Church compassion as a Mother to those who have gone home to Father who may need our prayers and sacrifices. We have the Mass of Remembrance at the 12:00 pm Sunday Mass this is where we as a Parish Family come together to connect with those who have experienced the loss of a Loved One from November 2018 to October 2019. We invited all those whose Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life was held in our Parish Church to attend this event as we mention their names in a prayerful and reflective manner after the homily. We also asked those whose immediate family member passed on but had their Service elsewhere to submit the names of their departed so their names may also be mentioned. Each of the candles placed on the Cross of Remembrance is also a reminder that they now share in the Eternal Light and Life of our Resurrected Lord Jesus. Like Zaccheus in the Gospel today may we seek opportunities where we can have a meaningful and relevant encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and in our daily lives. Our Lord is always passing by in our lives but sometimes we are not sensitive and aware enough. We need to be determined as a community to pray,

reflect and contemplate on Jesus our Lord whose persistent desire is to enter into an intimate relationship with us. We are almost one year into our initiative to become a Dynamic Parish – the first year we were guided to establish our foothold and be aware of where we are as disciples, stewards and evangelists. In the coming weeks we will be more intentionally into developing and enhancing one of the signs of a Dynamic Catholic. In a word, we are pursuing a path to allow the Spirit to lead us into “Who We Are Becoming,” because of our Loving God who we encounter day to day, moment by moment. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Chapters 6:19 – 7:12 in Matthew’s gospel are filled with ethical sayings. A familiar one to many people is, “Do to

others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.” (7:12) We call this saying, “the

Golden Rule”. Other similar sayings from the Old Testament are “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Lev 19:18) “do to no one what you yourself dislike” (Tob 4:15) . Matthew offers

this teaching of Jesus as the guiding principle of how disciples are to live according to the Scriptures.

All are welcome to join the team!! Wednesdays 9:00 AM or 7:00 PM in the parish hall
