What is a Grapheme? • A grapheme is a letter

or a combination of letters

• Each grapheme can represent more than one sound

• Two graphemes will be taught each week

• How graphemes are printed is important- continuous line

Grapheme Sounds

• f, l, m, n, r, s, v, x and z- continuous sounds• All other letter sounds are non-

continuous

Sound Muncher

• Is part of the homework assignment

• Reinforces learning• Children search for the items that

they want to bring• Children love it!

Homework Experience• Should look like- A clean,

comfortable organized space with learning materials (ie. pencil, eraser, crayons etc)

• Should sound like- Discussion of letter formations and sounds, encouraging words

• Should feel like- A special sharing time for both you and your child
