TEACHERS’ DAY PARA-LITURGY The Teachers’ Day Para-Liturgy on 1 September 2016 was dedicated to the teachers to be blessed with strength and good health so that they might continue to give of their love to the students. The school listened to a sharing about Jesus Christ as a teacher who tirelessly spoke to everyone he met about the love of God. The presentation helped the teachers to reflect on their roles as educators and to rejuvenate their passion to support and love their students. The celebration was indeed a beautiful one and the Holy Spirit was truly alive in all the Canossian Educators that morning.

PSLE MASS The PSLE Mass was celebrated on 15 September 2016 with Fr Terence Kesavan as the Celebrant. Fr Terence gave blessings to all the Primary 6 students and reminded them to put in their best efforts and to turn to God for strength and in their times of need. The Primary 6 students participated fully in the Eucharistic Celebration held in the school hall. After the celebrations, the students were more at peace as they had lifted up their anxieties to God, leaving the hall with smiles on their faces and positive attitudes to face the examination.

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY The school commemorated International Peace Day on 21 September 2016 with a series of activities. The activities emphasised the importance of Humility, a School Core Value, as one factor crucial for maintaining peace in the world. The students listened to an assembly talk which was followed with a class activity in which the students, in teams of five, wrote a peace pledge. These pledges were displayed in the canteen for the week. The students also listened to a presentation by a speaker from the Singapore Children’s Society on how to manage conflicts amongst peers. The activities helped the students to understand the importance of Humility and made them more aware that their thoughts, words and deeds had an impact on maintaining peace in the world.

CHILDREN’S DAY PARA-LITURGY The Children’s Day Celebration on 6 October 2016 began with a Para-Liturgy to celebrate the gift of the lives of children. The story of St Teresa of Calcutta and her love and service to the poor in Calcutta was shared through a skit. The skit reminded the students about the School’s Core Values of Charity and Humility as well as the importance of showing gratitude for the blessings that they have received in school and in their lives. The lively skit was well-received and many in the school could identify with the messages shared. Following the skit, the school continued with prayers, offering thanks for the many blessings received as students of the school and for their lives as precious gifts of their parents. CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION 2016 The school celebrated Children’s Day on 6 October 2016. The celebration began in the school hall with the singing of the National Anthem, school song, Children’s Day song and the reading of the Children’s Day message. The theme for this year’s celebration was Cartoon Characters and many of the students arrived in school dressed as their favourite cartoon character such as Dora the Explorer, Alice in Wonderland and Minnie Mouse. Even the teachers dressed up as characters from various cartoon shows such as Care Bears, Minions and Mickey Mouse. The school became a wonderland of colours and cartoon characters on 6 October. The Lower and Middle Primary students watched a movie as they had a picnic in the school hall. After the movie and picnic, the students took part in a series of themed activities based on the movie back in their classrooms. As part of the special programme for the day, the Primary 1 to Primary 4 students were given extended recesses. There was also a special carnival put together by our Canossian Co-Educators (CCEs) who had made special effort to surprise the students with treats and games. There was a delightful buffet spread of games, snacks and stationery items for the children to take their pick as well as ice-cream treats. The CCEs also set up a Zumba station and a stickers booth for our students. Laughter could be heard throughout the school as both adults and children enjoyed themselves. One highlight of the carnival was the appearance of Pikachu, a character from the Pokémon cartoon series. One of the fathers had dressed up as Pikachu and entertained the students, adults and even the Canossian Sisters who were there. Everyone enjoyed their interaction with Pikachu and had numerous photographs taken. It was one of the many memorable moments of the day. The Primary 5 and 6 students were also given a special movie surprise. They watched the movie Storks at Filmgarde Cineplex, Kallang. It was a fun-filled outing, especially for the Primary 6 students who had just finished their PSLE. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show and took the opportunity to spend time with their friends. As the students enjoyed the activities planned for them, they also did not forget to care for the less privileged and made donations to the Give-Back Programme. A total of $716.20 was collected from the three-day donation drive which was presented to Willing Hearts. We are extremely proud of our students for upholding the School’s Core Value of Charity. The students had a wonderful time participating in the wide array of activities planned for them on their special day, thanks to the efforts of the staff and the CCEs. Written by Mrs Daleen Ferro

PRIMARY 1 HERITAGE GALLERY VISIT The Primary 1 students visited the Canossian Heritage Gallery with their Form Teachers in Weeks 8 and 9 of Term 3. Being their first visit to the Canossian Heritage Gallery, many of the students were awed by the artefacts kept in the gallery and the history behind them. The teachers shared stories about the Canossian Saints and the Canossian Sisters with the students to help them gain a deeper understanding of our school’s one hundred and thirty-seven year history. It was indeed an enriching and eye-opening learning experience for the young students. Written by Ms Chen Kang Li

ETIQUETTE AND DINING WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY 6 STUDENTS The Etiquette and Dining Workshop for the Primary 6 students was held on 13 and 14 October 2016. As part of the Etiquette Workshop, the students had an enjoyable time learning about deportment and how to carry themselves well in public so that they would leave a good impression. The hands-on dining experience was held at Eatzi Gourmet Restaurant, SAFRA Yishun. The students learnt about table manners and the way the table should be set for dining in a Western restaurant. The highlight of the day was the opportunity to put to test the skills they had learnt over lunch. It was definitely a memorable experience for the Primary 6 students as they learnt the finer points of becoming confident young ladies. Written by Mrs Agnes Lim

BAKING WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY 6 STUDENTS In addition to the Dining and Etiquette Workshop, the Primary 6 students also attended a Baking Workshop as part of the school’s Life-Skills Programme. At the baking studio, the students learnt basic baking tips from a professional chef. Working in groups, they learnt how to bake cookies and muffins. Besides baking techniques, the students were educated on the importance of teamwork, active listening and turn-taking. The students enjoyed the workshop and were excited to try their hands at baking or cooking for their families over the holidays. Written by Mrs Angela Tan

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY 6 STUDENTS METAMORPHOSIS - A BETTER WORLD, A BETTER ME. The Primary 6 students participated in a Character Development Workshop as part of the post-PSLE programme. The school partnered with Canossian Mission and the Canossian Co-Educators (CCEs) in running a half-day workshop entitled Metamorphosis: A Better World, A Better Me for the students. The objective of the workshop was to help students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and so appreciate their own special qualities. Through the various workshop activities, the students identified their personal strengths and areas to improve. In doing so, they learnt to love their uniqueness as a child of God. The students also learnt the deeper meaning of their existence in relation to one another and affirmed their friendships with their peers. The workshop was a meaningful one as it helped the students in their preparation to transit to the next phase of their lives. Written by Mrs Agnes Lim PRIMARY 6 GRADUATION AND THANKSGIVING CONCERT 2016 The Primary 6 Graduation and Thanksgiving Concert is an annual event that all Primary 6 students look forward to. It is a platform for our graduating classes to express their gratitude to their parents and teachers for their years of guidance and love in moulding them into who they are today. This year's concert, held on 16 November 2016, was a musical entitled I AM Special. The musical was adapted from the story You Are Special by Max Lucado. The beautiful and touching story reminds everyone in the audience that we are pre-cious to God and to our loved ones just the way we are. Under the direction of their Performing Arts, Music and Visual Art teachers, the Primary 6 students worked together for weeks to rehearse the script, choreograph the different items and design the props and costumes for the musical. There were numerous rehearsals and throughout all the rehearsals, the students worked in teams cheerfully, each one fully committed to doing their best for their item. As a cohort, the students showed care, patience and support to each other during the preparation process, forging closer friendships and unity. The performance on the actual day warmed the hearts of the proud parents of the Primary 6 students and the teachers. Through a short video presentation, the audience saw how the little Primary 1 girls, who were shy and unsure when they first joined the school, had now blossomed to graceful and confident young ladies. The various student representatives reminisced about how they have grown at SACPS and shared their deep-felt gratitude to their teachers for their love and care over the past six years. The concert was a spectacular showcase of the students’ abilities and talents, true to the theme of appreciating our uniqueness as individuals. It was wonderful performance that emphasised the importance of striving to be best versions of ourselves. The concert was indeed memorable and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances of all the students. Written by Mdm Audra Cardoza

CARE FOR ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME - SACPS LOVES GOD’S EARTH AND SACPS SAVES GOD’S EARTH During the School Term holidays in March and September, students and their families were engaged in the school’s Care For Environment Programme - SACPS Loves God’s Earth and SACPS Saves God’s Earth. Through the programme, the students completed green tasks together as a family. In appreciation of the green efforts put in by the students and their families, tokens were given out. In September, the programme activities centered around Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs). Students who completed five green tasks with their families received a token in the form of a fridge magnet, designed by Wong Jian Mei of 4 Justice. Students who had completed seven green tasks with their families received a recyclable bag with a logo designed by Aisha Jeerooburkhan of 5 Prudence. To facilitate the green journey of the students and their families over the December holidays, all students received a copy of My First Green Handbook in Week 9 of Term 4. The handbook contains information about environmental conservation in Singapore and fun family activities. Through the programme, we hope that students and their families can take steps to protect and love God’s Earth together. Written by Mrs Grace Lim

THEATRE EXPERIENCE FOR PRIMARY 1 AND 2 STUDENTS The Primary 1 and 2 students had a fun and educational theatre experience this year. Elephant’s and Piggie's: We Are In A Play! by Players Theatre was the theatre experience selected for the Primary 2 students. On 10 March 2016, the cohort caught the delightful musical at the Ulu Pandan Community Club Theatrette. The musical, straight from the pages of Mo Willems’ award-winning and best-selling children's books of the same name, shared a story about a friendship between two unusual friends. The musical taught the students important lessons about friendship, about being true to oneself and thinking out of the box. The production also helped the students to learn values such as Respect, Teamwork and what it meant to give of their best at all times. The Primary 1 students went to Ulu Pandan Community Club Theatrette on 29 August 2016 to watch Hansel and Gretel also presented by Players Theatre. The students were drawn into the world of Hansel and Gretel by the realistic props and skillful story-telling. They learnt that Hansel, though clever, was impractical and that Gretel was a resourceful and inventive girl. Through the play, the students understood the importance of teamwork in the face of adversities. The play was stimulating, creative and had social and literary breadth. It incorporated strong visuals, creative puppetry, unique staging techniques and imaginative effects which added to the students’ enjoyment immensely. The students enjoyed their theatre experiences and look forward to more of such opportunities in the future. Written by Ms Chua Lee Beng
