A Publication of the Thomas M. Wernert Center (TMWC) For Mental Health Recovery and Support May-June 2018 TMWC 22 nd Annual Health & Wellness Fair Friday, May 18, 2018 10 am - 2 pm 208 W. Woodruff for a free day of health screenings, a healthy lunch and raffle prizes! It’s that time of year again! TMWC is pleased to host the 22 nd Annual Health Fair. Each year we host the Health Fair in May, which is also Mental Health Month (MHM). MHM, sponsored by Mental Health America (MHA), is dedicated to raising awareness about and busting the stigma around mental illness. This year’s MHM theme is ‘Fitness #4Mind4Body’ in hopes to educate people about the powerful connection between the mind and the body. In addition, MHA is challenging people to join them in making one small change each day in the month of May towards our physical and mental wellness. TMWC is pleased to welcome agencies from the community with a focus in both mental and physical health. This year’s vendors will include but are not limited to: Kristal Barham, Community Engagement & Outreach Coordinator, Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Lucas County (MHRSBLC), who will be bringing resources on mental health and addiction services; Diabetes (Blood Sugar), Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), & Cholesterol Screenings by St. Vincent’s Mercy; Breast Health and Cancer Information; NAMI of Greater Toledo; Zepf Center; A Renewed Mind; the Social Security Administration; Job and Family Services; Genoa Pharmacy; and Chair Massage by Susan Mackey, LMT, from Healthy Kneads. Please note that the Chair Massage has a limited number of spaces available and can be signed up for on a first come, first serve basis. Join us! By Lisa Stewart, PS-MH, Wellness Specialist There is more good news! TMWC also has a new website www.wernertcenter.org. This website has a whole new look and feel to it! It is jam packed with beautiful photos and slideshows for fun viewing. The site is easy to use and highlights include the Ground- breaking for TMWC new Building Expansion and Re- covery Campus Project. It also features up-to-date pho- tos of the construction process and the Toledo Commu- nity Foundation Excellence Award TMWC received. I am thrilled to introduce the TMWC new logo! Soon it will be seen all over the community, as it will be on our mini bus and van. The logo was in- spired during a development process that included myself and the entire TMWC team of staff. Neil Powell was familiar with Katie Phillips’ use of the dragonfly during teaching the Peer Enrichment Pro- gram courses WMR, WRAP and Peer Support. Neil drew a dragonfly that we all embraced, which be- came the centerpiece of the logo. Equally important in the process was Katie sharing characteristics of the dragonfly, like how comfortable it is flying great distances and how it reminds us not to limit our- selves, but rather to continue to learn, grow and soar in our lives and mental health recovery. Thank you to everyone who took part in the creation of the new TMWC logo. TMWC INTRODUCES NEW LOGO & WEBSITE By Brian O’Connor, President, TMWC Board of Trustees
