James was ordained to the priesthood one year ago. He is no longer a newly ordained priest. Now he is just another priest of the archdiocese- so please stop treating him so special. Again, if you are reading this on Sunday, it also means that yesterday the ordinations for the Archdiocese of Washington took place, including the ordination of Fr. Jamesbrother, now Fr. Nicholas Morrison. Additionally, several other men have been ordained to the transitional diaconate. As deacons prepare for ordination to the priesthood, they serve the Church as ministers of the Eucharist and the Word of God. It is a proud moment for the Church and for the archdiocese as well. What does it mean for us at Lourdes? Well unless they pull a fast one on us, Fr. James and I will be with you for another year at least. But who will take our place? I wrote about this two weeks ago as I reflected on the death of Fr. Wells. Who was to take his place? I was ordained with three other men whose vocations were directly inspired by Fr. Wells. In a way we stepped up to take his place. Others at this parish are called to do the same. I ran away from my call for many years. I knew in the back of my mind that I was called to something different then marriage - even though I really wanted to get married. I was stuck simply doing what I wanted to do. In my immaturity this seemed to be a good game plan. But ultimately, it left me wanting more. Friends - this time of year every priest thinks about the day he was ordained. And yet vocation isnt just for men. God calls us all to give ourselves away to one another and to His Church. Recall the three words repeated most in scripture: BE NOT AFRAID. God is not trying to keep his plan from you a secret. And selfishness is not a good pathway towards listening. He still calls. Will you answer? In Him, Fr. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. A Prayer for Fathers:

St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving

fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect

those who trustingly come to you.

You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will
