locations. They reported to the location from 8:00 am – 10:00 am, Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the students met at Lumen Christi and took “Introduction to Business,” a dual enrollment course through Spring Arbor University that covered fundamentals about starting in the workforce.

Internship opportunities included engineering, human resources, veterinarian practices, elementary education, auto mechanics, logistics, manufacturing, special education, and finance. The business partners paid $2,000.00 to have an intern with $1,000.00 of that applied to that interns school tuition.

In the Spring of 2019, members of the junior class applied for the program. Upon completing an application to be accepted into the program, the students attended workshops on writing a resume, writing a cover letter, practicing interview skills,

and participated in mock interviews to prepare for their actual interviews. “Match Day” was held in May, and the students were able to speed-interview with three or four business partners of their choice. After the interviews were complete, the student had an opportunity to rank the internships that sounded most appealing to them. Likewise, the business partners each had an opportunity to rank the intern. Much like the medical field tries to match prospective students to medical schools, the

LC Advantage Program

interns and the businesses were matched according to their preferences. After the matches were announced the excitement really kicked in.

We had students in each of these categories. It is a fair statement to say that every intern gained valuable experience. One of the interns has committed to a career in auto mechanics due to his experience, while another student realized that teaching elementary students is not what she wanted to pursue. All of the interns agreed that the lessons learned

The internships are categorized in three ways:

1 Exploration internship

The student will experience a wide variety of responsibilities that make up a business. They might spend a few weeks in accounting, in HR and in sales to learn an overview of each part of the overall business.

2 Specialization internship

Students will dive deeply into a single area of focus, developing expertise in one aspect of an area business. This internship prepares students to do the true work of the job.

3 Innovation internship

Students will provide a new and valuable product to the business as a result of their work. In this role, students will rely on problem-solving, creativity and fast learning to develop something their partner can use immediately.

were uniquely valuable to this program. During their internships, they attended business meetings, interacted with fellow employees, learned phone etiquette, and learned organization skills that will benefit them in the future.

The LC Advantage has proven to be an educational gem, as it has reinforced the commitment to our business partners and our community. The interns made an impact on our community and hopefully will return to Jackson to continue to make innovative, transformative decisions that shape our community to be the very best for decades to come.

Dear Families,It is in the darkest moments that our Light shines the brightest.

We are so grateful for the students, faculty, parents, and community of supporters that bound together in love, empathy, hard work, dedication, and Light to support and challenge one another during the on-going COVID-19 crisis. From students and faculty coming together in daily prayer groups, to teachers writing their digital distance-learning lessons to song, to moms joining our first ever virtual “Read and Chat” group, to a special $500 tuition grant to each student, we even further developed our commitment to our Core Values and each other.

The demonstration of care and love during this time was deep and meaningful. While many new to our community were impressed by our faith, dedication, and love, life-long Titans trusted our Light to shine for each other and the world during this time.

As we look ahead to the 2020-2021 school year, there is much work ahead. We are working diligently to prepare safety plans that ensure the physical, spiritual, academic, and social-emotional well-being and growth of our students, families, faculty, and staff. And — we need your help!

Whether by lifting us up in prayer, making a one-time financial donation, or an on-going contribution, our alumni and family of supporters are even more crucial in our mission to educate students for Christ. We thank you for continuing to stay connected to our Lumen Christi family — we are praying for you!

Alumni Highlight

While attending Spring Arbor University, “Crafty Charlotte and the Magic Room” sprung to life in 2015 from the depths of Meaghan’s passion for the books she read as a child and remarkable familial relationships she experienced.

Writing was not a path Meaghan originally intended, as upon high school graduation she attended Douglas J in 2008, and when being a stylist did not take off, she moved on to Henry Ford Allegiance Health in 2011 while continuing her education at Jackson College. Through career opportunities she was able to advance to the position of Physician Integration, wherein she is one of two Physician Liaisons and Advanced Practice

Professional Recruiters.

This path for Meaghan is part and parcel of the belief she holds firmly to: that there is “no schedule following high school,” whether it leads you to beauty school or a four-year University, realize that “each person is on the path they are supposed to be.” This mentality has allowed for Meaghan to establish herself and never fall short of her dreams, which has included her being named to and receiving the 30 Under 30 Award in 2013.

“ Everything is always 100% doable!” Meaghan says, as long as a person can “set goals and see accomplishments” in all they do.

Being a fervent reader, Meaghan accomplished the reading of 74 books in 2019; some of the books she has enjoyed the most are:

“Make Your Bed” — William H. McRaven

“The Sun Does Shine” — Anthony Ray Hinton

“The Awakening of H.K. Derryberry” — Jim Bradford

As for “Crafty Charlotte,” this came from the relationship Meaghan had with her grandmother and how, being taught by her at the age of 8 to sew, Meaghan has used this hobby as a great way to de-stress over the years. This wonderful and insightful children’s book gives a great perspective of how relationships are formed at a young age and how children latch on to those moments, inevitably never forgetting

the love that was shared within each and every one of those special times.

Meaghan McGill ’07A steadfast love of reading and self-improvement helped guide 2007 Lumen Christi graduate Meaghan McGill towards her desire to publish her first book.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY2020 ATHLETES

The students from the Class of 2020 who have signed their National Letter of Intent to play a sport at the next level are:

Catriana Carroll — University of Louisville (Rowing)

Caden Gregory — Aquinas College (Baseball)

Jelani Harbor — Wayne State University (Football)

Jane Lincoln — Michigan State University (Rowing)

Cloe Martines — Jackson College (Volleyball)

Connor McIntyre — Trine University (Baseball)

Elisa Melville — Hope College (Soccer)

Walker Plate — Northern Michigan University (Football)

Keegan Smith — Central Michigan University (Football)

Connor Spencer — Wayne State University (Golf)

It was another banner year for the Titans as the National Signing Day rolled around this February. Nearly one out of every six Seniors of the Class of 2020 committed to the next level, and this signing day was another opportunity to showcase the talented athletes produced at Lumen Christi.

Ten students participated, with parents, coaches, and classmates in tow, to honor the years of dedication and work that harvested this chance for them to continue playing sports at the next level.

Each student/athlete was introduced by Athletic Director Jesse Brown, and honored by all those in attendance as they explained, to a packed house, the future commitments they have made towards pursuing athletics and academics at the next level.

These students should be congratulated for all their grit, persistence, and dedication that has allowed them to receive this incredible opportunity, as they attack the next chapter of their athletic careers.

As we begin this school year, we also begin our Lumen Christ Annual Appeal, which is one of our most important initiatives to keep the school alive and thriving. The purpose of the Annual Appeal is to help “bridge the gap” between net tuition per student and the actual cost to educate a student at Lumen. This year’s “gap” is $2,400 per student.
