Worship One—Love All

A Word For the Church Terry Jarman, Worship Committee Chair WE ARE THE CHURCH

“What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpreta-tion. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.” 1 Corinthians 14:26

When I was a child, an illustration was shown to me that represents a church. I want you to try this demonstration. Put your hands together and lace/cross your fingers between each other. Take both index fingers and point them up to repre-sent a steeple. Open your hands and your fingers are the people.

My friends, the point of this demonstration is to tell you that we all are the church. The facilities are referred to as the church. However, we all are the church. The building can’t do things on its own. It is our place to do God’s work.

As we all know, the church has been without a minister since May 25, 2018. I personally want to praise and thank each one of you who have been helping with our worship services. Many thanks to each of you for helping keep the ministries of First Christian Church active. We are actively involved weekly with two worship services, choir practice, Bible study, Youth meetings. We have CWF and CMF meetings monthly. Some of the outside ministries that we are involved with are the Chew Program, Samaritan’s Purse, and Richlands Community Outreach Minis-try.

I will be the first to admit that we need a full-time minister. Our pulpit search committee has been meeting regularly to find someone they can recommend to the church for this position. In the meantime, we all need to wait patiently on God. It’s all in His timing.

God will provide the individual who He knows that we need. However, dear friends, for the time being, it’s up to you and me to continue working together for the growth of the church. We need to remain steadfast in His love and seek His will and guidance.

Blessings my brothers and sisters in Christ.

CMF NEWS

Tom Barbee, President

The Christian Men’s Fellowship typically meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month in the fellowship hall. Seven men attended our first meeting of the new year on January 7. Incoming officers are Tom Barbee, president, and Dennis Jones, secretary-treasurer. The men are hosting a church wide soup and sandwich fundraiser on March 3, immediately after the 11:00 morning worship service. The price of the meal is low and will be announced in the next Chalice News newsletter. Please mark this event on you calendars so you can plan to attend. Funds raised will go toward providing our church’s graduating high school seniors a college or community college scholarship. We invite and encourage all men of the church to be participating members of the CMF. There are no dues, but there is a little business, a scripture based program and refreshments. There is a monthly CMF breakfast on the third Saturday of each month at 7:25 am at Angie’s Restaurant in Jacksonville. If it’s your birthday that month, then you get free breakfast if you join us!! Our February break-fast is on February 16. Come on out whether or not it’s your birthday. We have fun!

Pastor Search

Mara Adkins, Committee Chair Just a few words from our Pastor Search Committee. Our committee was approved at the November Board Meeting. The following individuals have the honor of representing our congregation in search of our New Pastor. Jay Wright, Duwayne Divens, Ken Brown, Mark Lunceford, Jonathan Adkins, Taylor Bostic, Colton Metts, Leny Silva, Ruth Divens, Tammy Gurganus Amanda Killough, Christa Bostic

As you can see the committee is much larger than normal. We have chosen a larger committee, to represent all ages of our congregation. Our first meeting was December 15. I enjoyed hearing all the perspectives of the team. But the greatest moment was realizing that the entire group was looking for the same thing from their perspective pastor, “Personal and churchwide spiritual growth”. We then met January 5 and prepared our Interview questions. On January 11 we prepared our list of requests for the Board Mtg. After approval of our budget, we met again on January 21, to review the advertisement for our position. We felt it needed a little sprucing before we paid to have it reopened and sent out. This task is now completed and we will be Meeting February 9 to put our job out in the market. So please pray each every day the at God Almighty will select the best of the best for us!!
