With Christmas just around the corner, Bond’s Junior and Senior Choirs continued one of their annual holiday traditions – visiting different local Senior’s Homes in the community.

On December 19th and 20th, the members of the Bond Choirs, together with their teachers, visited some retirement homes in Scarborough. The students performed Christmas carols which the residents and the employees enjoyed very much.

On January 18th, Lisa Bowen, the Author of the book “Eli’s First Winter Carnival”, visited Bond, and did a reading of her book to our students from Montessori to Grade Two.

The story of the book is about a boy named Eli. Little Eli is very excited about going to his first winter carnival. He enjoys making snow angels, riding on a toboggan and helping his family make the goofiest snowman ever. When Eli gets back home, he has a cozy time with family before falling sleeping thinking about his wonderful day.

On February 15th, Bond students from Grades 2 to 8 went to a local community centre for their annual skating day.

Some students practiced their speed skating skills, while others went on the ice for the first time. A few Bond teachers went on the ice to coach the rookies how to skate. After the free skating, students were encouraged to have a short track race against each other based on their grades. During the

patens of the rocks, while the others scratched different minerals against each other to feel the hardness.

Thanks to Mad Science, the Grade 4s had a great interactive learning experience of the Rock Cycle, Mineral Hardness, and Properties of Minerals.

According to Ms. Harvey, the Vocal Music Teacher at Bond, the Choirs have visited local senior’s homes to bring them some joy during the holiday season for a few years as a Bond tradition. She and some choir members handed out the lyrics sheets and small instruments to invite the audience to sing along.

Bond students’ beautiful singing brought smiles to the faces of those in attendance and filled the room with holiday cheer.

Students were excited about this opportunity to get the signed books. Ms. Bowen also donated a copy of her book to the library at Bond for all the students to enjoy.

“I just want the kids to believe in themselves, and that anything is possible. I think it is important for the kids to build strong friendships and just be there for each other.” said Lisa Bowen, the Author and Homeschool Coach. “So this book is about friendship and having fun, which are the most important things at their age. That is the meaning behind the story.”

The most exciting part was the speed skating relay race between the Bond student teams, the Bond teacher team, and the local police officer team. “I had a really good time. I was on a team to race against other students, teachers and police officers today! It was very exciting! I liked it a lot!” said Victor, a Grade 4 student at Bond.

Bond Grade 10’s Visited the Holocaust Education Centre

On January 13th, a team from Elections Ontario visited Bond and ran a program for the Grade 10 Civics class.

The program included a variety of activities that encouraged students to reflect critically on the possible role of emerging technologies on the voting process.

“During these activities, students brainstormed the digital tools they use in their everyday life, and how these tools might be applied to the voting process.” said Mr. Greg Macri, the Curriculum Leader of Humanities & Social

On January 10th, the Grade 10 history class visited the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre in Toronto.

Mr. Greg Macri, the Curriculum Leader of Humanities & Social Sciences and Canadian Studies at Bond, said this meaningful field trip went very well. He said: “During the field trip, our students undertook a guided tour of the museum, and had the opportunity to listen to the personal testimony of a Holocaust survivor Hedy Bohm.”

Mr. Macri mentioned that the overall experience encouraged students to reflect on the issue of genocide and how to foster civil society for present and future generations.

On February 14th, the Band competed with other schools at the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, held at Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute.

The annual ski trip took place at Dagmar Ski Resort on February 17th. With 80 participants, Bond hit the slopes on a beautiful and warm sunny day.

Bond students first took part learning from the expert ski and snowboard instructors, with nearly all of our students passing the required tests so they could attempt larger and more difficult slopes.

“This trip is usually the first time many of our students have attempted skiing, with some of our students claiming that they have found a new life-long hobby.” said Joshua Boldt, the ESL and Computer Studies Curriculum Leader at Bond and the Organizer of the annual ski trip. “Spirits were high, and a great time was had by all!”

December 14th, Bond hosted a classical theatre project’s production of The Complete Works of Shakespeare. All Bond’s Secondary students and teachers, as well as a group of students from La Citadelle International Academy of Arts and Science enjoyed this special play.

One of the Bond Secondary Teachers mentioned that the production was especially valuable to students currently studying Grade 11 or 12 academic English, or those who hope to take these courses in the future.

This hilarious production offered a unique insight into the life, work and world of William Shakespeare. The play was a great opportunity to experience Shakespeare's works the way he intended it to be experienced. Some of his most
