A day not to be missed - the Bonniconlon Agriculture Show and Gymkhana The Taoiseach, Mr. Enda Kenny, a strong advocate for rural development and local community initiatives took time out of his family holiday in Kerry to visit the tiny village of Bonniconlon to open its 62 nd Annual Agriculture Show and Gymkhana. Nestled in the foot of the Ox Mountains in North Mayo, Bonniconlon has again proudly hosted one of the Irelands largest agriculture events of the year. Put together by a hard working committee with support from a couple hundred local volunteers the event attracted in the region of 30,000 visitors throughout the day. Good weather and a stay in Ireland mood no doubt contributed to a significant increase in the numbers attending this year. However, over the years the show and gymkhana has grown in size and variety and through dedicated local effort has acquired a profile far and wide such that Bonniconlon is the place to be on August Bank Holiday Monday. Visitors were treated to an extensive range of activities and entertainment and a number of all Ireland championships and competitions. Whether one was interested in animals, horticulture, flowers, art, craft or food they were guaranteed satisfaction. Competitions and exhibits coupled with the finest of music, a vintage show, trade stands and plenty of fun activities ensured there was something for everyone no matter what their age or gender. The Bonnniconlon Annual Show and Gymkhana can with justification claim to be one of the finest examples of community co-operation and local innovation. Almost every family is in some way involved with one or more of the activities. Enormous credit is due to all the those involved whether a member of the hard working and dedicated committee, a sponsor, a steward or volunteer who generously give their time, a landowner that provides ground, an exhibitor or a competitor. Sponsors including loyal individuals, local community groups and a large number of businesses from the locality and beyond are invaluable in making sure the event continues to be a huge success. The Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company, which is part financed by the European Union and the Irish Government, the Mayo County Council and Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry are also welcome contributors. A day not to be missed - the Bonniconlon Agriculture Show and Gymkhana

The Taoiseach, Mr. Enda Kenny, a strong advocate for rural development and local community initiatives took time out of his family holiday in Kerry to visit the tiny village of Bonniconlon to open its 62nd Annual Agriculture Show and Gymkhana.

The Show Committee would like to thank everyone for their effort in making the event an enormous success again this year including the Rural Social Scheme and Community Employment workers, the |Rally Marshalls, the Civil Defence, Foróige, Superintendent Pat McHugh, local Garda Tom McManus and other members of the

Garda Siochána, local landowners and all the others who volunteered their service and time in any way.
