We’re More Than a Gym. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors
to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn,
grow and thrive.
The YMCA of the Sandhills is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded on Christian principles and
dedicated to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. The YMCA of the Sandhills
has been serving our community since 1922. Our Mission is “To put Christian principles into practice
through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind an body for all.”
AREAS OF FOCUS FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
FOR HEALTHY LIVING
Improving the nation’s health and well-being. In communities across the nation, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. The Y has been listening and responding to our communities’ most critical social needs for 160 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being through education and training, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic populations through global services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaborations with policymakers, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. Through the Y, 500,000 volunteers and thousands of donors, leaders and partners across the country are empowering millions of people in the U.S. and around the world to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
Core Values The YMCA of the Sandhills lives on four Core Values. We incorporate these four core values into
all programs, special events and activities. Those four core values are: HONESTY, RESPONSIBILITY, CARING
and RESPECT.
Code of Conduct: YMCA members will always treat staff, equipment and facilities with respect and act in
accordance with the Y’s core values. By signing on as a member of the Y community, those participating in
programs or utilizing YMCA facilities pledge to follow all policies and procedures.

Our YMCA of the Sandhills is expanding this year! The Saleeby Family
YMCA in Cameron will open in January 2020.
MORE ABOUT THE FACILITY
"The road to recovery for a wounded veteran is paved by family, community and country. That
road starts with us." -CEO Rick Houp.
This facility is so much more than a community Y. The goal of the Saleeby Family YMCA is to
not only be a place for people and families to come together to work out and enjoy a swim in
the pool as they do in our existing YMCA of the Sandhills branches. It will also be a place for
wounded veterans in our community to continue their path to recovery and healing.
The Saleeby Family YMCA has something for all walks of life; a pool for aqua therapy and wa-
ter aerobics, a gym with inclusive and accessible equipment, group exercise classes to con-
nect with others in the community and so much more. We can meet the
wounded veteran exactly where he or she is at on the path to recovery. We are so excited to
bring this unique take on fitness and recovery to our Fort Bragg community. Come see it for
yourself!

MISSION PROJECTS FOR COMMUNITY
ENRICHMENT
The YMCA of the Sandhills is dedicated to fulfilling
our mission through outreach and service, with
many pillar programs on which we build
relationships and growth.
L.I.D.S. LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTION AND
DEVELOPMENT SERVICES L.I.D.S. is a program
offered by the YMCA to combat a growing gang
problem in some our neighborhoods. Through
mentoring and education, the YMCA offers FREE
lifeguard training to youth who live in these
identified communities. The goal is to provide
youth ages 14-19 with a marketable skill and
employment. These youth who complete the
L.I.D.S. program are less likely to join a local gang.
L.I.D.S. is a year-round program supported by
various grants and individual donations.
THE BRIDGE PROGRAM: During the Summer
months, low-income single parents who work or
go to school full time are often unable to afford
quality childcare. For some single parents the
choices are to quit their job, put their studies on
hold, or leave their children home alone. The YMCA
offers a full day childcare service that bridges one
school year to the next. The Bridge Program is
free to single parents whose household income is
less than $25,000. Full time employment or class
attendance is also required. This program is
supported by contributions and scholarships from
individuals and
businesses.
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITY: Fayetteville’s
community has one of the largest concentrations of
wounded veterans in the United States. Many of
these veterans are our neighbors who have made a
great sacrifice to protect all our individual
freedoms. Therefore, the Y has taken on the
responsibility to provide them with wellness
services, specialized equipment, and rehab
opportunities at no cost. To date, the Y serves over
260 combat injured veterans. At the Y we believe
“no man left behind” not only applies on the
battlefield but here at home as well.
EBHI: Evidence-Based Health Initiative provides
fitness and education with eight chronic disease
prevention programs where we seek to engage
diversity, inclusion, and healthy equity. The Y is
developing efforts to enhance the health and
well-being of individuals whose healthy lifestyle
journeys may begin inside or outside the walls of
our facilities.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Y is built upon a foundation of volunteerism and
we recognize that our volunteers hard to help us
accomplish our mission. Volunteers are a valuable
part of our community programs and our Y family.
Join the Y volunteer service with one of our annual
activities or select an on-going program to
volunteer in. Meet new friends, learn new skills,

INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the case of inclement weather, our facility will adhere to the following policy:
Aquatics: The Y temporarily delays access to the pool for 30-minutes after any seen or heard lightening strike or clap of thunder. Closures may be announced after consulting local weather service agencies if severe storms are in the area.
Closing or Delay (Facility): The Y makes every attempt to be open during inclement weather. If you believe a Y facility may be closed due to weather related issues, please look for updates on the homepage of the website or social media.
Child Care (Preschool and After School): If there is a county school delay, pre-school is still open normal hours. If school is cancelled, preschool and after school programs are also cancelled.
Fitness Classes: Scheduled group exercise classes may be modified following Cumberland County School District delays or closures. Please call the YMCA directly to confirm cancellations.
Youth Sports: The YMCA does not practice or play outdoor sports if temperatures drop below 50 degrees, after a full day of rain or in life-threatening situations. Due to the nature of thunder storms a game/practice may still be held. Check our website for updated information on the homepage.
