In this unit, students will be learning what matter is through the characteristics and properties of matter. Students will be learning different techniques to separate substances and how matter changes phases.

Curricular Competencies Questioning and Predicting

o Students will be questioning and predicting different theories, laws, and hypothesis. They will also be predicting what type of curve the cooling and heating of a pure substance produces.

Planning and Conductingo Students will be planning and conducting an experiment to separate substances

using paper chromatography. In addition, students will be planning and conducting a cooling and heating lab to see the phase changes of a pure substance.
