    PROJECTS FROM FOREIGNCommonwealth Foundation: Civil Society Responsive Grants 2010-11

    Overview:

    As part of our work to support civil society, we award small grants to civil society and cultural organisations inCommonwealth Foundation member countries. This document provides information about these grants awardedunder the Civil Society Responsive Grants programme. It sets out what we do and do not support, how much you canpply for, and how you can apply for a grant.

    Amount of Grant:You can apply for up to 12,500. In exceptional cases, the Foundation can award grants of up to 25,000. Theverage award is about 5,000. Applications for grants of over 12,500 must be considered by the Foundations

    Grants Committee which meets biannually in September and March.

    Application date:There are four grant application rounds per year. The deadlines for the rounds are 31 December, 31 March, 30 Junend 30 September.

    UN Trust Fund 2013 Call for Proposals for Small Grants

    The United Nations (UN) Trust Fund is accepting applications for its Small Grants Programme under the Second Decade Callor Proposals for the year 2013. The fund provides grants for projects with a budget of up to US $10,000 covering one yearsxpenses.

    The UN Trust Fund is inviting indigenous organizations or organizations working for indigenous peoples to apply for thisrant opportunity. The Fund will give priority to projects that focus on the areas of health (physical and mental well-being)nd education (such as language revitalization). The proposals will be assessed by the Bureau of the UN Permanent Forum onndigenous Issues in May 2013 and successful applicants will receive notice thereafter.

    The main aim of the Trust Fund is to support programs and projects advancing the goal of the Second International Decade toStrengthen international cooperation for the solution of problems faced by indigenous peoples in such areas as culture,ducation, health, human rights, the environment, social and economic development, by means of action-oriented programs andpecific projects, increased technical assistance and relevant standard-setting activities.

    The Small Grants Programme for the Second International Decade of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples of the United NationsTrust Fund on Indigenous Issues was established in 2004 to promote, support and implement the objectives of the Decade.

    ABILIS Foundation Grants for Empowerment of People with Disabilities

    The ABILIS Foundation provides grants ranging from 500 to 10,000 for projects initiated by organizations that areun by persons who have a disability. Organizations that are run by parents of children with disabilities can also apply.

    The ABILIS Foundation in Finland supports activities that contribute toward equal opportunities for people withdisabilities in society through human rights, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency. Special priority isgiven to projects advocating for human rights of people with disabilities and to activities developed and implementedby women with disabilities.

    n order to be eligible for support, organizations must have a certificate of registration and be based in a countrydefined as qualifying for Official Development Assistance.

    Applicants based in India, Bangladesh, Uganda, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, and Ethiopia should contact ABILIS partnerorganizations for an application form.

    Applicants located in other eligible countries must contact the Foundation to request the application form.

    Description Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) is implemented by the Government of India toprovide safe drinking water in rural areas. Under this programme, the following norms are to be followed: 40 liters per capita per day (Ipcd) of drinking water for human beings, 30 liters per capita per day of additional water for cattle in areas under the Desert Development Programme, one hand-pump or standpost for every 250 persons and availability of water source in the habitation or within 1.6 km in the plainsand 100 m elevation in hilly area.

    ligibility criteria A certain proportion of the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme funds are set aside forimplementation of Sector Reforms projects for institutionalizing community participation in the RuralWater Supply Programme. This programme has been introduced in 67 pilot districts across the country,under which, the community is equipped to plan, sanction, implement, manage, operate and maintainrural water supply schemes of their own choice so as to ensure their sustainability. Under these projects,people's contribution amounting to at least 1 0 per cent of the capital cost and I 00 per cent of the O&Mcost are also envisaged. The contribution towards capital cost can be ion the form of cash, kind or labour.

    How to Avail After the 73ra Amendment to the Constitution of India, the subject of rural water supply was placedunder the Panchayati Raj Institutions, arid the Panchayats/local community have the power to implementschemes, particularly in selecting the location of hand pumps, stand-posts and spot sources; inmanagement of sources and schemes.

    Name of the Scheme Standardised Costing for Water Harvesting

    ponsored by Central Government

    Description The system of harvesting water from rooftops is useful mainly for drinking water purposes. In this systemrain water falling on the roofs can be collected through a system of pipes and semi circular channel of galvanized iron or PVC and is stored in tanks in a suitably sized storage tank for providing sufficient waterfor reasonably long duration.

    ligibility criteria If the present capacity of the tank is found inadequate and necessity for larger capacity tank issubsequently felt for the villagers who find the technology suitable, another storage tank of similar orslightly larger capacity (5000 Ltr.) can be provided.
