the daily newspapers regarding more

than 25 mentally challenged patients

who were housed in a mental asylum

were charred to death at Ervadi in

Ramanathapuram district, Tamil

Certain newspapers reported 67

deaths of Pilgrims during Amarnath

yatra mostly because of cardiac

arrests as well as for other reasons,

the court took Suo moto notice of

concerned Articles to appropriately

deal with this serious subject of lack

of medical and other facilities in

public interest.

the apex court based on a new item

MANU/SC/0153/2012 published in Hindustan Times titled

'A Quite Flows Maili Yamuna' in

relation to the pollution of the river

Yamuna.

Suo Moto contempt proceedings

initiated against the Advocate on

Record as he filed an extremely large

number of cases in the Supreme

Court but never appeared for the

same.

importance which arose from the

facts brought on record in the case

report published in Hindustan Times

dinner” and initiated contempt

proceedings.

SadhnaUpadhyaya Advocate,

MANU/UP/1738/2009

Suo Moto contempt proceedings

initiated by the court against the

advocate for alleging the Judge with

the charge of lack of integrity,

disrupted the proceedings of the court

and also damaged the property of the

court.

7. In Re : Govt. Children's Home at Shivkuti

Allahabad,

Court took Suo moto cognizance of

the matter after a news report in the

"Hindustan" daily of crimes of sexual

abuse of minor orphan girls in the

Shivkuti, Allahabad

contempt proceedings on the basis of

a story published in a news magazine

“Outlook” for making the

contemptuous statement outlined in

the story which denigrate the Chief

Justice and the judiciary generally

and tend to scandalize and lower the

proceedings.

The proceedings for contempt of

Court initiated by the

Court Suo motu on the basis of the

news item, published in the Times of

India with the caption "AYODHYA,

MEMORIES OF A DISPUTED

LIFETIME". The court considered

the said item to be provocative,

calculated to embitter relations

between two communities and

message to Court that if pending

matter was not decided in particular

way serious unruly consequences

would occur.

period already undergone. The
