Box 2007, Abbotsford, BC V2T 3T8 Greetings As we welcome summer and give thanks for all the blessings we have received we pause for a moment to acknowledge that there is work to be done in the Lord’s garden. Let’s start with news from some of the countries we operate in. Ukraine On June 16, 2014 Russia stopped supplying gas to Ukraine and demanded pre- payment for future gas supplies. Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk says this is the fulfillment of Russia’s plan to destabilize and divide Ukraine. According to him, it all started with the annexation of Crimea, then it followed by igniting unrest and backing of terrorists in the East of Ukraine and now – it’s the gas cut. Russia has also nearly doubled the price it charges Ukraine for natural gas United Nations press services announced that the number of displaced people in Ukraine has reached 34,000. Refugees flee from the war in the East of Ukraine and from the Crimea (most of them are Tatars). More than 300 people were killed in the two eastern UA regions during the last few months. Fortunate- ly all of our operations in Ukraine are in the western region and we give thanks to the Lord for the safety and security of our volunteers and staff as well as the kids and families you support. Please keep them in your prayers. However, there is some good news to report: Our MWB Christian camps have opened in the west of Ukraine, to the joy of over 500 children. Overall MWB ex- pects to host over 3000 children this summer at camps all over Eastern Europe. Albania After three rejections since 2009, Albania is one step closer to the European Union. On June 24th, the European Parliament voted to grant Albania candidate status and put it on the road to EU membership. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that, with the EU’s decision, Albania had “regained its lost dignity in the eyes of international partners.” There is much work to be done but once membership is secured it will mean a major improvement in the lives of all Albanians especially those caught in the poverty trap. High School Graduation Just like here it’s time for many students in Eastern Europe to graduate from their high school level programs. They are faced with making decisions on what to do with their lives going forward. But unlike here these kids don’t have the wide range of opportunities we take to be normal in our lives. Without further education there is little prospect of employment, let alone mean- ingful employment that could secure their future. Some estimates suggest as many as 30% of the “graduating class” have a bleak and tragic future in store. Many will become homeless and turn to crime, many will commit suicide in desperation and many young girls will be kidnapped by roving gangs and sold to the sex trade in Western Europe. Every year thousands of women and girls, some as young as 13, are kidnapped or lured by promises of well-paid jobs or marriage and sold to gangs who lock them up in night clubs and brothels or force them to work on the streets. Maybe there is something you or someone you know can do to help. Gift Catalog One of our better kept secrets is our gift catalog. Did you know you could buy a cow or a pig or set up a poultry operation to help families become self sufficient? Or you can buy footwear for the whole family. GreetingsAs we welcome summer and give thanks for all the blessings we have received we pause for a moment to acknowledge that there is work to be done in the Lord’s garden.

Let’s start with news from some of the countries we operate in.

UkraineOn June 16, 2014 Russia stopped supplying gas to Ukraine and demanded pre-payment for future gas supplies. Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk says this is the fulfillment of Russia’s plan to destabilize and divide Ukraine. United Nations press services announced that the number of displaced people in Ukraine has reached 34,000. Refugees flee from the war in the East of Ukraine and from the Crimea (most of them are Tatars). More than 300 people were killed in the two eastern UA regions during the last few months. Fortunate-ly all of our operations in Ukraine are in the western region and we give thanks to the Lord for the safety and security of our volunteers and staff as well as the kids and families you support. Speaking of GiftsIt’s not too soon to think about Christmas. I know summer is just underway and here I am talking about Christmas. I hope you’ll forgive me.

Bonnie and Andrea and I have been talking about how we can make gift giving even more beneficial to our families and kids and we would like to suggest the following. Instead of buying a gift here whether it’s for a birthday, Christmas or just because you want to do something special for your sponsored family or child just send us the money you were going to spend on that gift. We will arrange to forward your money to the appropriate field office where they will make the gift purchase and deliver it directly to your sponsored child or family.

This works very well because:• We can buy more gift for your money in Eastern Europe than we can here• Supporting the local economy multiplies the value of your gift• We eliminate the expense and time involved in shipping from here• The local counsellor will know exactly what your child or family needs and

can buy a very appropriate gift for them• And we don’t have to worry about far in advance deadlines from the post

office• There is no lengthy shipping period to account for

However If you would like to create a special gift then of course we would be more than happy to handle that in the normal manner. Also we will still buy a gift locally for you and arrange shipment however you wish.

We are grateful for your generosity and guided by your wishes.

Current postal rates to Europe are about $45 per kilogram (2.2 pounds) and the post office deadline for surface parcels from Canada is Oct 28th.

By the way MWB Operation Christmas Love parcels this year are $50.

Our Crowdfunding CampaignLast month I wrote about efforts to fund the cost of sending donated goods and food to Eastern Europe and I am heartened by the response. Thank you. But we still have a long way to go to meet our goal and so have launched what’s called a crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo system.

I invite you to go to our website at http://igg.me/at/millionmeals and check the campaign out. It would be enormously helpful and I would really appreciate it if you would tell your friends and family about the campaign and forward the website address to all your Facebook, Twitter and other on line contacts. Thank you and bless you.

Sponsorship OpportunitiesI’d like to feature some children in need this month. If you know someone who might be interested in sponsoring a child perhaps it could be one of these. Please pray for these children that our good Lord will look over and protect them.

AlionaAbandoned by her father with a mother who cannot support her Aliona lives in a children’s home shared with 147 other children. She loves school, studies hard and participates in Christian Input sessions. Her favourite classes are mathematics and reading. With-out help from a sponsor this young girl might never get the chance to grow up, graduate and find a future.

GeorginaGeorgina comes from a poor family with 7 children. Her parents try very hard but the father, with poor eyesight, only gets oc-casional construction work and her mother needs to stay at home to take care of the children so there is no money. Georgina participates in the Christian programs at the center and loves drawing at school. She has some mild learning difficulties and needs our help to progress.

VolodymyrWhen asked what his best memory from last year was Volodymyr sadly replied he did not remember a happy moment from last year. He has learning difficulties that require spe-cial care and education. With poor parents there is little chance that without a sponsor Volodymyr will get the help he needs.

MihaelaHer mother works abroad and MiIhaela lives with her dad, grandparents and 5 siblings in a 2 room house. Yet she is a happy and friendly child perhaps because of the strength she gets from her participation in our Christian input programs. She is a good student; her favourite subjects are reading and mathematics.

Thank you and bless you for your interest and support in the work we do. Have a safe and fun filled summer.

My best
