What are your plans for the summer? The cottage, camping in the mountains, boating and fishing on a lake somewhere, maybe off to Disneyland with the family? Or maybe a glorious summer of backyard barbeques?

We truly are blessed, aren’t we? We live in clean, comfortable, warm houses; we drive our own car, sometimes having several in our driveway. We go to the movies or concert or sporting event when we want. We have excellent health care, good schools, good police and non-corrupt government officials in a truly democratic society.

We have it all, arguably the most blessed society in all of history. But you know as well as I do we are the exception. Think of all those kids in Eastern Europe who have nothing, who live in appalling conditions, often abandoned by their parents, cold and hungry. These kids have so little hope, even less happiness.

But there is some good news amidst all this misery. Mission Without Borders will - with your help - send over 3,000 kids to summer camp this year. For these kids, it will be the trip of a lifetime. They will experience the joy and comfort of 3 meals a day, friendship, laughter and an opportunity to grow closer to the Lord.

THE GOLEA FAMILY … only two of their seven children attended summer camp last year, and as soon as they started to share their experiences, little sister Teodora began dreaming about going to a summer camp as well. She was too young and dependent on her mother last year, but now she considers herself “a big girl”, able to do many things without her mother’s help.

“I am in kindergarten now,” said Teodora “and I have already learned how to read and write. I will not cry after my mother because my brothers will be there if I need anything. I would like so much to go to the summer camp and have my own bed! At home we have bunk beds and many of us sleep in the same bed. I would also like to see the pool that my brothers told me about and I would like to learn how to swim. It must be a wonderful place … I will be nice and good, so that my counsellor won’t change his mind about taking me to the camp.”

THE STORY OF ION … This 12 year old boy lives with his family – mother, father, two brothers and three sisters - in a small old house in a village in southeast Moldova. The house has a broken roof which is covered with reeds, windows that are cracked and only two rooms. Both his parents know what poverty means as they come from socially-vulnerable families, but “God has always been with us and led us on His path,” confesses his mother, Tatiana.

At first, his parents wouldn’t let him attend the camp as they needed help with the sheep, but then they realized what a great opportunity it was. The time spent in the summer camp was a true joy for Ion and his family, mainly because at home, there was one less person that had to be fed.

Those 10 full days of interesting activities and meeting wonderful people gave this young boy the chance to forget all of the problems that await him at home and just to enjoy his childhood. “I have had the best time of my life here at summer camp. I never knew that I could meet so many friendly persons that care about me. This is truly

extraordinary!” Ion enthused, with his eyes full of gratitude.

The boy became more self-confident after his time at summer camp, and what made us even happier was his enthusiasm while retelling us the Bible stories he had learnt.

THE STORY OF NATALIYA … Nataliya had never been to any summer camp before so it was a completely new experience for her.

Nataliya has never seen her father, and her younger twin-sisters have another dad, but he doesn’t live with them either. “I have had the best time of my life here at summer camp. I never knew that I couldmeet so many friendly persons that care about me. This is truly extraordinary!”

Nataliya is very closed, reserved and not willing to open her heart to others. She felt uncomfortable and uneasy in a new surrounding at first. She even cried on the first day of camp. However, little by little, she grew accustomed to strange people and a new place, and showed herself a completely different person.

Nataliya wanted to share with us her impressions about the camp: “I have never been to any summer camp, so I did not know what to expect. At the beginning I was even a little scared, because I was the only one from my boarding home and I didn’t know anyone here. But now, I’m so happy to be here! You know, it’s even more interesting when you do not know anyone - you get to make new friends!”

“In the boarding home we never have enough time to play, and here they have invented so many exciting games! I hope I will remember them and will teach them to my friends at school. The crafts were my

second most interesting activity during the day. Once, I won the first prize for the best card, can you imagine? And our room also won first place for the room cleaning a couple of days in a row. They think our room is the cleanest in the entire camp! We really tried our best to make it very cozy and nice.”

“I really loved the food in the camp. It’s so yummy, I have never had such tasty breakfasts. We have porridge for breakfast at school, and here … I just love cheese casserole! I’m so glad that I could come here. I think I’m going to remember this time my entire life.”

We believe the Summer Camp Project is very powerful and one of the most effective projects in our work. May God bless every single person who contributes to this very important ministry and thus invests in children’s souls.

Help us send as many kids as possible to camp this year. Only $150 will give a child ten days at camp. Call us now and give a child the experience of a lifetime.

Thank you for all your support and prayers. You make such a good difference in the lives of so many.

Blessings
