* CALL TO WORSHIP: THE RINGING OF THE CHIMES

* THE CHRISTMAS PROCLAMATION The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light! The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. O holy child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin and enter in; be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; Oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Emmanuel! * PROCESSIONAL HYMN: # 283 O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him born the king of angels: Refrain: Oh, come, let us adore him, Oh, come, let us adore him,

Oh, come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

The highest, most holy, light of light eternal, born of a virgin, a mortal he comes;

Son of the Father now in flesh appearing! Refrain

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!

Glory to God, all glory in the highest: Refrain

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning, Jesus, to thee be glory giv’n!

Word of the Father now in flesh appearing: Refrain

* PRAYER OF THE DAY Good news of great joy, light and life, grace and peace be with you all. And also with you. Gracious God,

you made this holy night shine with the brightness of the one true

Light. Grant that here on earth we may walk in the light of Jesus’ presence, and in the last day wake to the brightness of his glory;

through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you

and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. * HYMN # 289 ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains, And the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains:

Gloria in excelsis Deo; Gloria in excelsis Deo.

* THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 2:1-20 Bible, Page 724 The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 2nd Chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. The Gospel is read. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. * HYMN # 289 ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH

* HYMN # 279 O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie.

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by. Yet, in thy dark streets shineth the Everlasting Light.

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv’n! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heav’n.

No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray. Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.

We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell. O come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Immanuel.

* THE APOSTLE’S CREED: People of God, what do you believe? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus

Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the vir-

gin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descend-

ed to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the

right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the

Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the

resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

* PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH AND SHARING PEACE Lord, in your mercy . . . Hear our prayer. The peace of the Lord be with you always. . . And also with you.

OFFERING

SANCTUARY CHOIR (6:00/8:00) STILL, STILL, STILL GERMAN CAROL, ARR. NORMAN LUBOFF

SOLO: CARRIE ROBERTS (10:00) I WONDER AS I WANDER APPALACHIAN CAROL

* OFFERING HYMN: # 282 IT CAME UPON THE MIDNIGHT CLEAR It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old,

From angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold: “Peace on the earth, good will to all, from heav’n’s all-gracious king.”

The world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing.

And you, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow;

Look now, for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing; Oh, rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing!

COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION – ALL ARE WELCOME Congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America practice open Com-

munion. All who confess Jesus Christ as Lord are invited to share in this meal. Those

usher. The elements will be brought to you.

* HOLY COMMUNION LITURGY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise . . . * LORD'S PRAYER: With our Lord’s disciples in every time and place, let us pray, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and

forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
