BIBLE STUDY

Bible Study resumes with The Gospel According to Luke. Part 1 runs from September 19 – October 25. Part 2 will run in the Spring. Part 1 – Monday evenings Tuesday mornings 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Sept. 19 – Oct. 24 Sept. 20 – Oct. 25

Meetings are held in rooms 101-102 of the O'Connor Center. There is a $30 materials fee payable at the first session. The materials cover both Part 1 and Part 2 (Spring session). Registration forms are available in vestibule, in the rectory or online at www.stcath.org.

This study has 12 sessions, incorporating an introductory session and 11 lessons. The study set includes a study guide by Little Rock Scripture Study Staff and the New Collegeville Bible Commentary, The Gospel According to Luke, by Michael F. Patella (Liturgical Press).

Luke tells the story of Jesus of Nazareth as a mighty prophet and Savior of the world in fulfillment of Old Testament expectations. Luke also emphasizes Jesus as a person dedicated to prayer. He begins with Jesus' virginal conception and birth, and follows Jesus through his public ministry to his passion, death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven—all under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Luke, along with Matthew and Mark, is one of the synoptic gospels. It is the primary gospel of year 'C' in the Catholic Church's liturgical cycle, the current cycle.

FAITH COMMUNITY NURSING Loving Hearts, Faithful Friends

May the beautiful words of the Prayer of St. Francis comfort us as we pray for the souls of those we lost on this day, and inspire us as we try to support all those who still grieve:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

WALKING WITH PURPOSE

The Walking with Purpose parish program at St. Catherine of Siena is introducing a new session for 2016-2017. Walking with Purpose is a 22-week Catholic Bible study that aims to bring women into a deeper, personal relationship with Christ through personal study and small group discussions that link our everyday challenges with solutions given to us through the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church. Two courses will be offered. Opening Your Heart, the foundational course, is designed for women who are new to WWP. We welcome past participants and invite new women to join us! Touching the Divine will also be offered, a study of the Gospel of John, which will draw us into a deeper relationship with Jesus and show how much Christ loves us.

We will meet Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. beginning October 6 through April, with breaks for holidays & school vacations. Free childcare is available!

For more information and to register, please visit the parish website stcath.org and find Walking with Purpose under the Faith Formation tab. Questions? Contact [email protected].

ST CATHERINE’S SUPPORT CIRCLE

LinkedIn 101: Build Your LinkedIn Profile

Thursday, September 15 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Room 209 of Fr. Vincent O’Connor Center

It’s well recognized in that today’s job market, LinkedIn has become the social media choice for recruiters, networkers and job seekers alike.

In fact, job seekers and those seeking to expand their networks who are not actively participating in LinkedIn are missing out on more than just opportunity; they may actually be inhibiting the efforts of those trying to find them.

In this session, attendees will be exposed to LinkedIn fundamentals, and see first-hand just how easy it is to either get started, or make practical improvements to the page they might already have. Participants will be shown how to:

Set up a LinkedIn account

Build a profile page that will attract the types of folks you’d like in your network

Find, join and participate in Group

Request and accept LinkedIn connections properly

Research, find and follow companies, organizations and individuals of interest

See who’s been looking at your site

Discover current job opportunities

Send and receive InMail This will be an interactive session facilitated by Chris Tella and Celeste Robledo, members of the St. Catherine’s Support Circle Steering Committee, and avid and daily users of LinkedIn. Through the years, Chris has successfully used LinkedIn to recruit staff, find customers, and greatly expand his network.

In order to reserve a space at the SCSC table, please RSVP to Celeste directly at [email protected]. The St. Catherine’s Support Circle was formed in early 2009 to support people seeking jobs in the current challenging economic environment. The group continues to encourage participation by both job seekers and those interested in providing their advice and support. To read about helpful information and recommended resources for job seekers, visit the parish web site www.stcath.org, first link to Community Life, and then link to the SCSC page. Here, you will also find driving instructions to SCSC events.

The SCSC steering committee includes professionals who have experience in diverse areas including human resources, executive search, career coaching, clinical career counseling, general management, education, marketing, public relations, finance, accounting and IT. If you have similar experience, and would be interested in joining your fellow professionals on the committee, please contact SCSC Chairman Bob Sloane at [email protected].

September Classes Begin

“I tell you, there will be rejoicing among the angels

of God over one sinner who repents.”

Gospel Reflection – Luke 15: 1-10 It's celebration time! The lost sheep has been found. The lost coin has been located. Jesus tells these two "lost and found" parables to show us how delighted God is when a sinner is welcomed home. Notice that God does not just "sit around" waiting and hoping that the sinner will show up. God goes out like a shepherd seeking that one lost lamb, like a woman seeking that one special coin. Then God says, "Rejoice with me! A sinner has repented."

Question of the Week: In what way do you imitate Jesus’ welcoming of all people?

Family Discussion Questions for the Gospel: There is someone, let us say "a friend," who is always losing her reading glasses. But she always looks for them because she needs them. They are very valuable to her, not because they cost a lot, but because they help her to do something very necessary to her life. When she loses them, she spends a lot of time looking for them.

Did you ever lose something and not bother to look for it? What does that say about the value you place on that object? From the teaching of Jesus, we know we are valuable to God. We do get lost at times, but God would never "lose" us. He never forgets about us. He always knows where we are! But sometimes it seems we "lose" God. We forget about him. We forget that we are valuable to him. What happens to us and to our lives when we forget our value as children of God? What happens when we forget that all other people are valuable to God, too?

One way to celebrate our value to God is to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This sacrament celebrates our finding God and God finding us, even in the midst of our busy lives. Ask your family to celebrate being found by God by celebrating this sacrament together soon.

If you have any thoughts or questions about todays Gospel, or any questions about your faith, or simply to let me know your reading these discussions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: “No God, no Peace! Know God, know Peace.”
